@@spacepopeXIV Perhaps I presented my argument poorly. These 'drain unblockers' often do not solve the problem well, if at all. The customers frequently come back and buy another one, usually a different brand and very often a more expensive one, hoping for a different result. Sometimes they will even buy a third. Eventually they will seek more practical help eg. a plumber or handyman. I have used these products several times myself with disappointing outcomes and I worked at a supermarket which sold loads and loads and loads of them. The reason these cleaners sell so well is because, in real situations, they usually don't work. I apologise for not explaining myself properly in my earlier post.
They've never needed a plumber, or paid one lmao. I tried everything for a year after we bought our house, eventually needed a replacement faucet and had the clog taken care of then. $1,200 usd and I had to patch a huge hole in my wall. About 2.5x the size they needed. The wall had a door and they could easily see where the plumbing was located.
@@tylerhansonI had to pay 800 to have my lines cleared on my 113 year old house when it backed up this year he had to use a jet the regular snake failed
@@tylerhanson You're complaining about the price like you got ripped off but said yourself you couldn't fix the issue for a year. Sounds like you got some value.
@genocadetto3813 jack of all, master of none as they say lol but I fixed the wall, and wasn't complaining on price. I'm just saying people who bitch about price haven't been in a situation where their just happy to have it fixed regardless of cost. Your mama raised a bitch
Be very careful using sulfuric acid! About 40 years ago, I used it for my bathtub drain and ended up with hazardous materials people coming in their funny little costumes for safety. The tub pipe went down into the basement and out to the sewer. It was a copper pipe From 1939 and it had a pinhole in it that up until that time was no problem. But the sulfuric acid opened it up just enough to let all of the acid drip down and hit the cement floor which it ate up immediately. It made fumes and it was a mess. The fire department came with the hazardous waste people. I had to open all the windows in the house, because the smell went up into the house. We opened the bulkhead door to the basement and we couldn’t go back in the house for about three hours.
Should spend an hour researching the benefits versus the negative benefits of using acid chemical for a blocked drain, whether its good for the plumbing system or not, old houses always have bad drain systems by not having PVC plumbing
FYI: US sewage drains are made of these materials Clay sewer pipes - Ceramic Cast iron sewer pipes - Thick metal Orangeburg sewer pipes - Wood fiber PVC sewer pipes - White flexible Plastic ABS sewer pipes - Black strong plastic Concrete sewer pipes - Reinforced concrete Cast iron is the strongest sewer pipe. Other countries will vary.
I used "guaranteed to work" Draino two times on the same drain 24 hours apart and it didn't work at all. Then I poured a 12 ounce can of Coca Cola in and the sink opened up in 15 mins. Unclogged a toilet with it too.
Please for God sakes if you use acid and still have to call a plumber let him know before he gets there cause chemical burn sux and makes the price go up
From an experience I can tell you, Drano gel is the best when there is sitting water, however, an hour is not enough for Drano gel, I have seen it taking 12 hours in some cases, We usually advise the tenant to leave it for 12 to 24 hours
I used a chamber of Green Gobbler the other day. To get rid of Avery bad clog in my tub. I left it for either half a day or overnight. It ended up getting it back to normal. I was this close in the store to buying Draino becwof the convenience. Glad I just ordered Green Gobbler instead of ruining my pipes even more. I also tried the natural ways beforehand. Like using baking soda & white vinegar, Dawn dishsoap & boiling water. None of those worked at all. It kind of eased my sink but that just continues to run slightly bad as always.
I've always used DrainO and it works perfectly every time, and the reason why is because i read the directions. People think all you do is pour the DrainO down the drain and that's it, but when you read the directions you find out that after a certain amount of time you're supposed to put a pot of boiling water down the drain
I almost never put drain cleaner in a toilet because yes it cannot get to the clog to start working and never plunge a toilet with drain cleaner in it as it will splash everywhere while plunging a toilet, best to pour it down another drain, let sit for required time to digest the organic clog and then rinse with hot water, if the clog is really bad, use a drain snake, best to know the schematics of the drain lines to figure out where the clog actually is so the plan of attack can be formulated to work best on where the clog is
@@RogerWakefield Thank you for taking time out of your day and giving us your knowledge, I'm a big fan...... A friend recommended it to me , I bought it from a supply house , it's not available at box stores, I put 1 cup of thrift and a pot of boiled water and the clog was gone in literally seconds.
I usually just buy the cheapest local noname chlorine+sodium hydroxide+surfactant drain cleaner available, using it 2 times with hot water, then finishing with a plunger. More than enough for most generic non-serious clogs, and not as much of a risk for the pipes involved as with concentrated acid. If you can't find an affordable option for a cleaner with this formula, you can also very easily make it yourself, since the aforementioned chemicals are among the cheapest and most widely available.
Funny thing. Green Gobbler I think also makes very large nylon strips, like spiny zip ties. They really snake it, clear stoppages, and can be reused or tossed. Quick, cheap, effective, safer than caustic chemicals. I gave up on chemicals.
For a simple trap under the sink, I just take it apart and clean it. I may just replace it, depending on how old it is. A simple p trap is like 15 bucks. You'll spend close to that much on a good drain cleaner.
There's no substitute for mechanical removal using a snake or an auger. That being said, my favorite is drain cleaner Glug. Pure sodium hydroxide crystals. Works great.
So I've got a clog in one of my black tanks in my RV. The toilet is on the other side of the camper from the tank itself. I've tried everything to clear it. Everytime I flush it makes a gurgling noise. Any idea what product might help that and be safe for my system
Try them with coffee grinds, I had to cut a sewer last week because it was caked with coffee grings and I tried all the products I could find, none worked
I don’t have a clog I just want to clean my drains and I can take the trap off but I’m looking for something I can pour down the drain to clean the gunk off the tubes.
Liquid Plumber is my go-to. Using it correctly, it works every time. Between my hair and my girl's, drains clog. Let it sit for 40 minutes and flush it out with HOT water. Works like a charm.
Did you use liquid fire. I don't know if they make it anymore. Everytime I've used it you have to stay out of the room or leave the house. It tends to gas off some really nasty fumes. It's super strong and works though.
the sulfuric acid in those heavy duty drain cleaners .. destroys cast-iron drain lines , especially if the system has a dip or fish belly as we call them .. Best bet for a home owner if they can’t clear it with a plunger or boiling soapy water is to call a plumber and have them run a cable ..
Omg is that what's used in the kitchen? The shiny Black under kitchen sink pipes?? ...mine has no clog but rotting food sewage (horrific bad smell & gray water going into the Dishwasher but it still drains to 95% dry when done with cycle,.. so I was gonna pour a clog remover chemical down into the kitchen sink pipes, Garbage disposal & drain hose system down there to see if it helps.. but seeing your comment makes me stop & wonder..
I just drop the trap and have the job done in a few minutes without a trip to the store. How much does that stuff cost? Gas and time aren't cheap either
@@RogerWakefield The drano removes the hair clog but leaves the sludge clog to collapse in on self causing another sludge clog blockage. I clean 8-10 drains a day. I'm trying to bring forward a issue I'm seeing and needs to be brought forward to the customer and not mislead them. A hand held snake is the best option. We have to protect our plumbers, customers and environment.
This isn't even call for the plumber. My dad showed me how to clean out sinks at home. Of course if you have a leaking problem or some other problem, then call the plumber.
If the clog is in the p trap then thats an easy fix. But most likely it's the pop up assembly that needs to be cleaned. And if that isn't the clog go buy a snake. Much cheaper than paying for a plumber.
@@RogerWakefield how is about next test for products popular for (septic tank drop living bacteria) easy eat down and safe for tank plastic, cement, or steel? Thanks! (I’m apology not good grammar) Thank you for respond!
