This well-preserved 1960 Pontiac Parisienne was recently discovered (December 2018) in an old garage in Riverdale, Toronto.
It had been parked there - unloved, unwashed and unused - since 1970. The video shows the day of its extraction (exhumation?). Let's hope this "barn find" gets a nice restoration.

OK Folks, I'm the owner of the beautiful 1960 Parisienne. I had a great laugh about some of the comments but I haven't visited this post for about 3 years. First off, I put on the chrome wheels just to get it out. As some correctly deduced, the originals were flat. I did state this in the video. Second, I didn't try to start the engine because the gas in the tank was putrid, seriously! It was almost syrupy! Thirdly, I am not watching too much TV. When I went to see the car for the first time, we opened the garage doors and O crawled under the car with my flash light. Believe it or not, the old car had been Ziebarted! The undercarriage was impeccable! That's why I jumped at buying it. It is pristine! When I got the car home I wondered if it would start. I tried to turn it over by hand, but it didn't budge. I took out the plugs and sprayed "Sea Foam" into each cylinder. The next day, with a gerry-rigged gas can, it turned over. I primed it again and started! That was amazine! I have since had the car repainted the original colour. I did not put the original rims back on. I found some sweet chrome spoke wheels and she is looking awesome. When the pandemic has finally run its course, I'm looking forward to showing the old gem off at a few car shows!

Thanks for the update. I would have likely bought this car but being three hours away and unable to see it killed any desire to own it. My luck it would have been rusty underneath, I am glad it worked out for you.

The reason Canadian Pontiacs were different was because they were built using Chevrolet frames, that were shorter wheel base than American Pontiacs and of course were set up to use Chevrolet engines. (283, 348, 327, 409, 350,396) This was between 1946 and 1968 or so because of the duty (tariff) fees on parts and components crossing the US/ Canada border. The Canadian GM factory was set up to produce Chevrolet frames, so to use Pontiac frames they would have to be imported and the extra cost would have made the Pontiacs noncompetitive price wise. In 1965 a free trade agreement was negotiated on auto parts used for assembly of new cars and the Canadian models were mostly phased out. If you want to look up some of the Canadian models they were with their Chevrolet equivalent, the Acadian, (Chevy II/ Nova) Parisienne, (Impala) Beaumont (Malibu). Ford had Canadian models as well, the Meteor, the Monarch, the Frontenach and Mercury trucks
@randymorash7013
@randymorash7013 5 лет назад
American Pontiacs like the Bonnieville or early GTO/ Tempest were fairly rare in Canada until the end of the 1960s because they had to be imported as complete cars and had tariff fees on them making them more expensive than Canadian made Pontiacs.

In 1970 the Canadian Pontiacs were still Chevys under the skin. When Pontiac introduced their wide track design in the US, this did not carry over to Canada. I drove my new 1960 Ventura to Niagara Falls and Toronto in October 1960 on my honeymoon and it got a lot of looks because the wheels were out to the edge of the body. Seeing that front end really brought back memories. I hope the one in your video is restored. Keep us posted and thanks for showing it to us.

I would wash and detail that original paint job. You might just be surprised at how nice it looks cleaned and buffed.
@s.bakker5396
@s.bakker5396 2 года назад
While the undercarriage was in excellent shape, the paint job suffered from being sequestered for 47 years. I had to get it repainted because there were a number of ugly paint blisters on the roof, the hood, and the trunk. The body man did an excellent job of matching the new paint with the original colour.

In 2014 I had similar luck. I became the 3rd owner of a 1965 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. This car was purchased Jan. 23, of 65, The owner died in 1967 having only driven 47,000 miles The car was kept clean and driveable but not used until his wife passed in 1979, The Cadillac dealership since purchase had been contracted to service the Fleetwood & their other Cadillac's Verified through records the unchanged milage for the 12 years showed only fluids had been changed in the life of the car, and was from tires to wiper blades as it was when it left the factory. The second owner had the car from 1979 to 2014. added 4 innertubes when the tires failed to hold air. The car was only jumpstarted driven onto a trailer re-started and driven a place at auto shows doing this added an additional 3,000 miles. After my the Third purchase I tried to replace the innertubes because tires again no longer held air, Sadly they broke into pieces, at that point I decided to put the car back on the road. I replaced Tires, Battery, Wipers, Belts, Radiator Hoses, Headlights, A 2-inch piece of vacuum hose and Spark plug wires keeping all the factory parts. I named her Lilith She's a Devil & a Temptress but drives like new. I have in 6 years taken her from 50,000 to 60,000 miles. I feel lucky to have such a treasure.

Acadians were Novas and Beaumonts were Chevelles. There were Mercury trucks and Ford sold Meteors and Monarchs. Fold Falcons were called Frontenacs. Lots of unique models in those days.

The 1960 Pontiac's were beautifully styled cars. Look at those rear fender spears and the rear lights moulded into the trunk. The rear window with the overhanging roofline is fantastic. This has got to be one of the most stylish American cars ever. This example is in amazing condition and a nice colour too. It's a pity about the non-standard wheels, they ruin the look. That PT cruiser won't be worth much in 40 years.

@420Brew
@420Brew 5 лет назад
QuickDraw Mcgraw I have to concur . That's the first thing I questioned. Here is the thing most generally if and when it's a garage find the stories don't add up seemingly most of them! It's not a barn it's a garage with nothing else in it with what some may think is forty years of dust when in fact it's probably just dust mixed in with poly like dryer lint would be a great way to explain it! What they do is get a fan and wind up the dryer vent on top somewhere and over time it looks like it's bee. sitting a long time. What people need to do is carbon work! For instance grab some tape and view in a spectrum of the particals and date them so to speak! I bet there would be lots of lawsuits because people are trying to fake expensive cars! If the numbers match great but I don't see it being stored that long maybe 90-96..them rims are billet aluminum and them lug caps like really didn't even see them till the 90's ...tin coated caps ..lol.. Still a dreamy car. I bet there is good reason this didn't get a second video...these old farts trying to scam some youngyion is what my opinion is
