Here's Why the Ferrari F40 Is Worth $1.3 Million 

Imagine going in a back alley to do some crack and seing an F40

It is sad to know that the engineer who created the F40 is almost unknown. His name is Nicola Materazzi, he is the person behind 288 GTO, F40, Testarossa (1984), Lancia Stratos, he also worked at Bugatti EB110 and the B Engineering Edonis. For F40 he took care of everything, not only the engine. Around the web can find his interviews, a great engineer and a humble person.

It's crazy that this car hasn't aged at all, it still looks modern and crazy....its such a beautiful and timeless design.

Sadly, the designer of this car and the Lancia Stratos, Ing. Nicola Materazzi, passed away yesterday at 83. A legend who didn't received much credit for his masterpieces

Wow this whole car is nerve wracking, but the tipping point for me would be trying to shift into 1st and grinding the gear box while realizing I've just put it in reverse, lol. I still want one though!

A note about the crazy air intakes. Each one of them serves a purpose, unlike a lot of cars made by Toyota today. On the side, the lower NACA duct forward of the rear wheel is the rear brake cooler, the one above that gets vented to the intercooler on that side. The intake behind the rear-side window, (the one Doug did not know existed) is the combustion air supply for the engine intake into the filter box on that side of the engine. The NACA ducts on the top, just under the wing, are for the oil and transmission oil coolers. Those vents through the lexan rear-window are actually really necessary to allow, not only engine heat out, but even more so for the heat rejected from the two intercoolers right bellow that window. I think the two little NACA ducts on the hood converge into one intake and allow air into the cabin, though I am not entirely sure about that.

The F40 is my #1 favorite Ferrari of all time. From its pop-up headlights to its unmistakable wing. What an awesome car. Even the hood looks aerodynamic as well.

What impresses me the most is the size of the rear tires. You truly see it when you open the engine cover. They are MASSIVE.

If I remember, one of the differences between European F40s and American F40s that made the US version heavier is that the American-spec cars come standard with air conditioning.

I was going 90mph in a Nissan Maxima when an F40 passed me i thought I wasn't moving.

This is by far the coolest car Ferrari has ever made, I saw one at a classic car show many years ago and talked for a long time with the owner. He was a 67 year old man who bought the car brand new in 1991 as a gift to himself after selling a company he started in the 80's, a truly great guy, he even let me sit in it! My Father had a Foreign Automobile's book on our coffee table growing up, this was the car on the cover. The F-40 has always been the coolest damn car I've ever laid eyes on and one day I'd hope to drive one. Sweet vid Doug!
