I couldn’t finish watching this reaction after that bc it triggered me. That scream was so fucking real it made me nauseous thinking about how it felt when I realized my son wasn’t waking up. Ash, you surprise me with your ability to interpret this film in the exact way the director intended. The horror of the movie is secondary to the grief and despair. When you guys were saying that no amount of therapy would fix the son, you were spot on. That’s exactly what the cult was going for. He could only be fully possessed by Paimon once he had reached his most vulnerable state. Great job deciphering the movie amidst all the chaos.

This movie left me unable to sleep the night I watched it. It's right on par with The Exorcist and The Babadook actually. The three movies that left me terrified out of my mind. But I still came to watch it multiple times, and it's one of those movies where you notice something new every time you see it again. But damn is it jarring. And it doesn't help that the characters hate each other. You feel it in your skin. The mom's guttural screams will forever be planted in my mind. It's kinda dumb tho how Toni Colette didn't win an award for this. She outdid herself, and everybody else tbh. Alex Wolf isn't given enough credit for the way he cries. I see plenty of comments saying that it sounds stupid, but to me it makes sense. His character is retracting back to childhood, and that's how a child cries. I'd cry like that too if I felt helpless. Something I've just observed among many other things. Ah, I could go on forever, but I won't. Thank you for your reactions. I love how hyped you guys always are haha

In interviews it is revealed that he really hit his face on the desk as hard as he could, but to avoid further complications in shooting the director insisted on thinly padding the wooden desk. He was so into the script that he was in the character the entire duration of the filming process and when the shooting ended then he reveales his name to the crew rather than Peter , after this movie he went for a therapy. So clearly the young boy outdid himself too.

this movie impacted me deeply and not just because it was scary. the movie deals with grief and it looks at it unflinchingly.. the deepest kind of grief and loss. i lost my mom around the time i saw it and became obsessed with it.. i watched it over and over.. and even though it would make me feel sick, at a certain point i realized it was actually helping me deal with my own grief. in a weird way, this movie was cathartic for me which helped me deal with my own grief. i don't regret watching it over and over, but i kinda never want to watch it again now lol. this movie seems to reach out and touch me and turn my guts into ice (even when i watch other people's reactions.. which i do enjoy just because i think it's probably the greatest horror film i've ever seen)

The Oscars didn’t even give Toni Colette an Oscar nod for her performance. But then again historically the Oscars never acknowledge horror movies. I saw this movie in theaters, and I have to say that it is one of those movies that reminds you of why the move-going experience is so important. The theater was packed. The hype was high. The first few moments of the movie began, and you could already tell that the mood of the room had changed drastically. Absolutely nobody was prepared for that car scene. The tension in the room leading up to that scene was steadily building, but quickly transformed into extreme levels of anxiety, as we were all left staring at Alex Wolff's character's face for what felt like an eternity. The theater was so silent during that scene, that you could hear movie-goers in the lobby down the hall. From that scene onward, no one felt anything but anxiety, tension, and obscure horror for the rest of the film. 11/10 theater experience. It speaks volumes of just how amazing this movie is, and why it is, in my opinion, should be added to the "classics" of the horror genre.

It's a character drama more than it is a horror film, and that all comes together to create a truly terrifying experience. Yet it has somehow become one of my favorite movies of all time, it might even be number 1. Great reaction by the way! You guys are both very entertaining!

This movie is what would spawn if The Shining, Rosmary's Baby and The Exorcist had a threesome in hell. I really don't expect much of horror films these days. So when I first watched this, I thought it might be just hyped up . But after Charlies head came off, I paused the movie and took a walk just to contemplate what I've just seen. This movie is a masterclass in horror on every level and I consider everyone who tells me otherwise a rube.

This movie stands apart from any other due to the incredibly real reactions to severe trauma, followed by denial, followed by anger, followed by grief, followed by lives being destroyed past the point of no return. On November 13th of 2014 at 8:35am two police officers were pounding on my bedroom window, as I am deaf in one ear I didn’t hear them knocking on my front door. I was half asleep and was very annoyed that they woke me in such a jarring manner. They asked me to verify my name which I did, then asked if they could come in. I thought that they must’ve been there about the carport my husband had built recently and did not get a permit for it. (Looking back I realize police don’t come to your house and get you out of bed for anything like that, it would be a township worker or something like that.) I told them I was in a nightshirt and I needed to get dressed, but one of the officers said “No, that isn’t necessary right now”. So we walked into the middle of my living room and I started to feel something that I’d never felt before. I remember asking “Is everything alright?” The officer shook his head as he put his hand on my shoulder and slowly pushed me downward onto the sofa. I watched the words come out of his mouth. He said, “Brianna took her life.” My 14 year old daughter shot her self in the head at a neighbor’s house before school, in the home of a county sheriff that thought leaving a loaded, high powered handgun unlocked, with no safety on it, in his kitchen was acceptable. I remember falling to his feet. I remember my screaming, it sounded exactly like Toni Collette in this movie. I mean exactly. I remember his shiny black shoes and sort of “climbing up” him, trying to get his gun out of his holster as I begged him to shoot me. I was taken away to a mental facility by ambulance. That was 7 years ago. Am I over it? No I’m not. Have I accepted it? No I have not. I have severe PTSD from that moment beginning with the pounding on my bedroom window next to my head, to the moment I was being led across my front yard to the ambulance. It was the first frost, and I can close my eyes to this day and hear and feel the grass crunching under my feet and the frost cold, nipping my bare ankles in my slippers. The antiseptic smell of the facility is still in my nose. My life changed that day from living, to merely surviving. Over the years, I’ve seen dozens of actors and actresses portray characters breaking down upon being told their child was dead. I can honestly say that none of them really upset me. All they did was “remind me” of the that day, without much of a physical feeling, except maybe for a crying spell and some melancholy. This performance by Toni Collette didn’t “remind me”, as remembering causes thoughts of sadness that fade away a day or so after watching the movie. I realize now that only a very rare and exceptional actor or actress can make you “feel” pain, not just remember it. If you were to put video/audio of me that day side by side with Toni’s reaction and ask a parent which one is real, I don’t believe they could tell. For me, the scene actually made me “feel” the memory, versus only thinking it. I was, and still am, absolutely in awe of her performance in Hereditary.

There is a book, called the 'Book of Abramelin', written a few hundred years ago, in which the 8 'kings' are listed: Amaymon, Ariton, Asmodeus, Astaroth, Beelzebub, Maggot, Oriens, and Paimon. They are ruled by 4 higher demons, Belial, Leviathan, Lucifer, and Satan. Paimon seems to be kind of the knowledge keeper of hell, who knows basically everything, and will truthfully answer every question someone directs at him. Interestingly, Lucifer and Satan are separate entities in these 'demonology' books.

I typically don’t like horror movies. Not bc I can’t handle being scared or they give me nightmares or something, I’m a grown-@ss man (😆), I just usually find them and most ‘demonic’ or ‘paranormal’ movies silly, lame, ridiculous, corny; just totally unrealistic - I know it’s escapism, but it’s usually SO ridiculous, I just can’t play along, I just roll my eyes and groan like “oh COME ON... give me an effin break”. HHereditary was different... I think it has lot to do with the acting, especially the mom, but ALL the actors did a GREAT job in every scene. It really helped me get to that “suspension of disbelief“ state and just enjoy the story, and actually be genuinely freaked out a few times. Great movie

I’m from the 70’s and 80’s. Sending your little sister or family member with the teenager because they thought it would decrease the possibility of him drinking or sex. I was sent with my young uncle to his dates. I was little but I understood why he was mad. So I loved it!!!!! I would laugh and ask for treats. I liked Stirring the pot. He would get so mad at me but I was his favorite niece. He used to get over it quickly.

This one is special… like the Exorcist, it’s not just a horror film, it’s a film that is about something, which typical horror films really aren’t. The Exorcist is about faith, this film, as you noted, is about grief, and guilt. When are you going to react to Midsommar, by this director, and The Witch, by the equally great Robert Eggers. It was perfect that you watched this with your sister. You should watch Midsommar with Hannah, it’s about the worst boyfriend ever, and she will guaranteed gag.

Dude, stop criticizing and hating everyone in the film. Yeah, they're fucked and weird as shit but if you can't relate to them in any way, shape, or form, then you can't 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 about them, and you're essentially saying the director failed to make a good film. An audience 𝐡𝐚𝐬 to recognize even a tiny bit of "humanness" in a character, or - what's the point? Even villains are painted with some hues of vulnerability and fallible qualities, or we don't care when their demise appears. Be respectful - 𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞. ♡ And no, I vehemently disagree: the worst nightmare for humans is not about siblings, but about burying our own children. Believe me, I know.

Unbelievable... I don't understand why Toni Colletti wasn't even nominated. The US Academy Awards doesn't honor great horror films with actors/actress performances as they should. This was the best actress performance of 2018 for sure. Hands down! Even if she had been nominated, she would have most definitely won the Oscar. I'm so convinced of this. What a performance!..What a performance! Indeed.

There are key moments everyone looks for in reaction videos when watching Hereditary (telephone pole, wall crawling, piano wire) but the scene I most look forward to is how people respond to the dinner scene. It is the most deeply uncomfortable scene. I think it transports so many people back to some hideous family dinner when they were younger.

That's why i HATE the academy awards and all it's about now! They knew that Toni Collette should have at least been nominated, but they choose to leave out incredible performances with the fear that they will look like they actually respect quality masterpiece horror films. It's a bias that is unforgivable to the majority of voters in that bubble of shit called the academy. Shame on them.

12:14 true but also rule #1 is you send your kid with their EpiPen. If she's having her older son chaperon his little sister to a BBQ or a party, the parents need to put the EpiPen in the car and remind him of it. I know from my brother and his wife cause whenever both of them won't be around their kid, they verse you on your ability to use an EpiPen and that you know where it is
