Couldn't you just take an output from the hopperchest, and when the hopperchest is 100% full, have that signal power the powered rails?

If that was the only loading system in place, it would make the system significantly more efficient by reducing the amount of time when it was neither loading nor unloading (i.e. travelling between)

Actually he could... but it would require setting up a chunk or three with lots of water exposed to sky. Also possible to fish one up. However... that does not seem to be the exact procedure he used.

In 1.9 mobs dont spawn in redstone so u are safe with that. U just need to worry with the light level of the "empty" blocks :). AMAZING intro, as always xD.

You could put the poppy sorter/trash can before the loader, then take an output from the minecart with chest - and activate the powered rail when that minecart was 100% full. This would improve efficiency, as the chest would spend less time in-between, where it can neither load nor unload items.

I know this was from AWHILE back, but it still works today. You can turn Redstone into obsidian. on skyblock you only have access to one lava source, but you can make infinite obsidian like so. place lava source in a hole where there's a one block hole on one side(block that hole up for now). on that side go down one block and place Redstone on those blocks. then go down another block and to the side of where those blocks that have Redstone. have those as air blocks and then you start the up climb on the other side. as long as you have running water flowing into those air spaces next to the placed Redstone dust when the lava flows over it, it will turn into obsidian. without the water it will just destroy the dust. but you can make infinite obsidian on skyblock as long as you Redstone. will want a hell of a mob farm to ensure witches flowing in. I'm sure I didn't explain this properly but I'm positive there is a tutorial for turning Redstone into obsidian on RU-vid somewhere.

a part of the platform isnt covered in redstone and build with slabs placed in spawnable ways so he does need the light

Hey Snocrash, comparators can detect how full a minecraft chest/hopper is, there are a few designs out of there, normally they have a sticky piston with a block and angled up rail to stop the cart from moving until a certain level of it is filled before the piston releases it. This would be your solution to the problem of have too many items in the system for the cart to handle. Realistically, you don't produce enough iron for that to be a problem so what you have works. :)

why couldn't you just use a detector rail that detects when the cart is full and sends it to unload that way it stays at the iron farm until it's full

Ya, the initial statement he makes about not being able to detect if the mine cart chest is full is incorrect. Would have been much less complicated. Only issue is you should generally send it before it is full in case you have a partial stack of something (like that 1 ender perl that was somehow in the chests when he looked)

If you use a detector rail - then you dont have a powered rail - then have no way to send the cart back.

+Snocrash ya, you need to have it on an incline with a piston to stop it. somehow the cart is able to come back through the closed piston, but gets locked in until the poison opens. it isn't super intuitive, I would have never figured it out, but iskall85 does it in a number of places on his single player world. your method is neat in the fact that you just sat down and figured out a way to make it work.

The mine cart system is very handy. I use a multi-stop version in my world that collects from all my farms. I'm sure you realized this, but make sure you have enough chests connected to the top to collect items or you will lose some!

One thing you could have done was, if the hopper has anything in it, and there's a cart there, lock the hopper with redstone so it can't be refilled.

you can use a detector rail and comparator to detect the presence of and how full the minecart with hopper or chest is... There are tutorials on automatic minecart loading.

Also, you can make a set signal strength for your hopper reference by having another hopper with comparator feeding into the reference and then filling up the reference hopper with items.

hey snocrash you can have a comparator read a minecart chest, so that way it is completely foolproof

Well if you have the minecart chest on a slope, you can have a piston hold it up, so that you can read it with the comparator and then have the piston pull back and release the minecart.

Correct - It was set this way to make it a bit more of a challenge - the disappointing thing is not being able to go over Guardian mechanics in the series.

Because you need to use a detector rail - which means you dont have a powered rail - which means you can't send the cart back.

you can do it with a piston an an inclined detector rail : the comparator retract the piston wich allow the cart to go
