Personal Opinion here: The one on the right is the antagonist and the one on the left is the protagonist, but the one on the right is the hero, and the one on the left is the villain. The protagonist isn’t always a good person, it’s just the main character that people sympathize/relate with.

Sometimes people forget that Heroes are HUMANS too. They can't save everyone but they still try their best to fulfil everyone's expectations.

I love how either one could be the hero or the villain. This just proves that the only difference between a hero and a villain is the one who tells the story.

When the hero starting singing “IM SORRY” I literally got shivers.. that *never* happens,,

The hero failed to save the villain from something terrible, making them bitter. The Hero tries to sympathize, saying "I'm sorry, But you don't have to be a villain" and the villain basically responds "What kind of hero can't even save a child? You're not my hero, you never were, and frankly I don't think you deserve that title." It's really quite interesting, and I quite like it.

i love this, its really "tropey" but i dont mean that in a bad way. its like the bare bones of a very common dynamic between hero and villain, of people who define themselves as such and the world defines them as such, but they don't really fit into them because they are people with emotions and flaws. the "hero" wants to bring the other one up and tell them they won't give up on them, but the other one wants to bring the hero down, like "you're no better than me" type deal. its the classic "we´re not so different after all" shtick. its weird how this feels like a very familiar narrative that many heroes and villains fit in one way or another, though i don't really remember reading or watching many stories where the main villain is the heros past lover but its perfect. it really adds a level of intensity to the struggle between them.

The one a lot of people say is the "villain" honestly sounds like a victim to me. Like how the "hero" is implied to have treated them poorly before and the lines "so you're back at it again" in two parts of the song and then how the hero ignores what the villain is trying to say. Like how the villain says they feel manipulated and the hero's first response is to deny it and claim they're trying to help, which is manipulative behavior. Another example is when the villain is talking about their struggles and says "what about me?" But the hero says "what about us?" Dismissing the villain's feelings. I know this probably isnt what its supposed to be, but I just keep hearing it like this whenever I listen to it!

While "understand" and "recognize" are synonyms, they can have different interpretations. I "understand" is like "Hey, I have gone through the same thing you're going through. I know what you're feeling. And that's why I'm here to help you." I "recognize" is like "Hey, I may have not gone through the same thing as you but I see that you're in a lot of pain. That's why I'm here to help you." IDK I just thought it was a nice detail in the song

I don’t think this was the intended purpose but I relate to the ‘villain’s’ side as a cancer survivor in school. I was never bullied but I was never treated the same and people would only talk to me out of pity or to try to make everyone be like “Aw you’re her friend? That’s so nice of you!”

i feel like the “villain” was abused, hurt, and bullied by others while the “hero” stood by and watched, not knowing what to do, scared to hurt, so never helped. the villain started to loose their sanity and was angry at the hero for never being there for them, and feels like the hero doesn’t care about them, because why would the hero leave them in hurt, if they really loved them? i don’t think there’s a hero or a villain, they’re both in the right, yet both wrong. it depends on the perspective you tell it from. the hero is selfish for leaving their friend to suffer and never helping, and the villain is selfish for taking their anger out on their friend.

The lines at 2:55 kinda made me think of what the hero and villain could be. Hero: Somebody that is kinda obsessed with helping others because they feel the need to help others and prove that they could be a good person or that they are a good person Villain: Somebody that that doesn’t want to be saved because they feel as if they don’t deserve to be or just feel as if it doesn’t matter if they are saved or not because they’ll end up dying anyway.

To me, this song is about a villain who became who they are because of the hero, who had attacked the villain while they were a child (unknowingly, of course). As the villain looks over the remains of their childhood that had been ended by the person they loved most, the hero questions what they're doing in a place of rubble, and that's how the song starts. The hero knew from the beginning that they were the reason the villain was who they were, but kept their mouth quiet in fear that the villain would hate them. I have a whole plot in my head bc of this song but this is just my rendition lmao

I can see two different versions: 1. The person on the right is the person viewed as the villian by society, but is attempting to assist people, especially those who are overlooked, like those who are abused or in the lower class. The person on the left is the person viewed as the hero by society. They are manipulative and care only about fame. 2. The person on the right is the villian, many of their words are lashing out or an attempt at gaslighting. They are hurting others because they feel others should feel their pain. The person on the left is the hero, they care about the person on the right, know of believe them to be suffering some type of breakdown. However, they don't seem to care about people at large, but are focusing exclusively on the person on the right.

The heart stabbing "I'm sorry!" Gets me every time

I love how this song can get two opposite interpretations: 1) The one on the left is the hero and the one on the right is the villain. The hero has defeated the villain multiple times and everyone adores him for that. However he knows the villain isn’t actually evil, but rather misunderstood. He’s known it for a long time but just about this song starts is when he decides to go and make amends with the “villain”, but the villain is resentful because the hero put everyone against him without questioning and believes now it’s too late to make things right. 2) The one on the left is the villain and the one on the right is the hero. Long time ago, when both of them where just starting acting publicly, the hero offered the villain a chance to redeem himself but the villain took advantage and made everyone think the hero was actually the villain, twisting all the actions of both of them for his convenience. Now the hero is hiding at his “secret lair” with his spirit broken as everyone believes him to be the bad guy while he tries to save the day, all because of the lies of the villain. After maintaining the lie for a long time, the villain goes to confront the fallen hero, leaving to interpretation wether the villain is actually trying to fix things up or if he’s just mocking the hero with his “heroic fake personality”. Everyone’s talking about them being childhood friends, but I raise you this. The hero is older in age, late thirties year 40s. The villain is late teens early twenties. The villains parents died due to the hero not being able to save them, the hero has said their apologies so many times but the villain is too corrupted by anger and sadness. The villain believes that the only reason the hero is treated as such, is because other people believe that they are a hero. Because their past will forever haunt them.

Honestly I think the "hero" is the villain undercover, and the "villain" is the actual hero who gave up.

it feels more complex than just one of them being a villain. I'd say it's more the villain views themself as a villain and the hero as a hypocrite, meanwhile the hero views themselves as a hero and the villain as someone in need of rescuing. By the sounds of it they’re both half right, and ironically, they’re right about their opposite instead of themself. The hero's apologies and admittance to lying to try and save them reveals that they have indeed done some hypocritical things. On the other hand, the villain referring to themself as a villain shows that they're acting against their own conscience. I don’t know what happened but they’re actively working to hurt themself by doing something they themself consider evil, so they really do need saving. On top of that, the fact they can still recognize their acts as wrong means it's not too late to save them, unfortunately, with their shared history together and the hero's history with hypocrisy, it's almost impossible for them to be the villains hero; in fact, the harder they try, the more they push the villain to doing evil. I've taken to calling this reaction the Adora effect recently(props if you get the reference).

I honestly love how you played the characters. Besides the emotion in “You are not my hero” and a lot of other lines, I love the dynamic the characters have. The “villain” is playing off the “hero”. When the hero tries to make a breakthrough the villain just makes a contradicting statement. I’ve already seen someone in the comments make this comparison, but it’s like trying to convince yourself not to commit suicide, and failing. It’s an inner conflict, as well as an outer one with your friends, family, S/O try to help you out of it.

THIS FEELS LIKE A FROZEN DELETED SCENE WHAT-

Listening to this I was reminded less of a hero versus a villian, or protag v antag, and more of an internal conflict I used to have with myself quite often and that even now tends to resurface. On the one hand I know I'm not truly a bad person, but on the other, I must be awful because of all the mistakes I made and how long I went being a bad person with little consequence. I thought I was good and I wasn't, and now I've fallen into a semi apathetic state where I don't care anymore. And now the personal desires (perceived hero in the vid) are coming up again in a less toxic way but I don't trust them from the past and what it could cost to indulge. Honestly, this provided me with an oddly introspective look inward and helped me actualy verbalize some of the issues I have internally. I know it was a strange conclusion to draw from what is supposed to be a hero and villian song, but I couldn't help but voice my listening experience.

I wanna say by the manipulative tactics used in the beginning the one on the left is the villain, then tries to make the other feel like they don't deserve to feel sad. Making them feel like they are sad for no reason and they are really trying to help. But the one on the right knows they are being manipulative and tries to make them realize that they aren't swayed. But has to act like the villain to get that through to the left side.

I made a little story, how I imagine the song playing out in my head. Camilla is an angel with short, blonde hair. Victoria is a demon with long, dark red hair. The two are meant to be dating in this story. The dialogue is the lyrics to the song. You don't have to agree with it, I just thought I'd post it here so others could enjoy it. The angel, Camilla, woke up, seeing she was alone without her demon lover. She walked through the room, finding the door to the balcony slightly ajar, the curtains flowing softly in the evening breeze. She walked through the doors, seeing the sad-looking demon who she knew was in bed with her when she fell asleep. "What are you doing, dear? Aren't you tired?" She quietly whispered to her lover. The demon, her long hair flowing in the breeze, head in her hand, elbow on the stone railing around the balcony, sighed and, without looking back at the girl she was so upset with, responded with "What are you doing here? I don't think you were invited." Victoria turned to face her girlfriend, part of her hair falling over her shoulder. "Here you go again, pretending like you love me, when just beneath the surface, you're convinced you're above me," she threatened. Camilla's eyes widen slightly before she responded to her lover with "Dig deep I to the past. I've never been one for doing things half-assed. If I'm here to save you, I'll be here forever. Just take my hand, I'll be your knight in shining armor." She smiled sweetly, knowing she had her girlfriend's full attention as she extended her hand for the demon to grab. Victoria giggled as she spoke. "You think you're a hero?" The demon continued, placing a hand on her hip in annoyance. "And they'll tell you, you are so stoic and handsome, and you've come so far!" she said, smirking mockingly. Camilla took a breath, having seen this behavior before, but not from her girlfriend. "You think you're a villain... But I know you're not. Under l that angst and anger," Victoria continued without her, the two speaking in unison. "Is a beating, human heart," Camilla finished, while Victoria rebelled with "is a dying, broken heart!" Thinking back to her life when she was still human, Victoria attacked Camilla with the memories she couldn't save the young Victoria from. "Hey, what about the lonely little girl?" She growled, practically spitting venom at the woman she once loved more than anything. "I'm sorry," Camilla barely managed to get out before Victoria continued. "What about her monsters who prevailed?" She shifted her weight from one leg to the other, her tipped tail flicking as she did. "I'm sorry!" Camilla shouted, refusing to show any hint of regret or pain from the memories she secretly hated. The beautiful demon sighed, wishing she could forget her entire childhood. "You never came to save my world," she mumbled under her breath. "What about me?" She scowled, unaware the angel in front of her had tried to say "What about us?" At the same time she protested. The angel took her demon lover's hands, looking directly into her light eyes. "I recognize that you're upset," she said with such a caring tone, "I know they did you wrong." Victoria pushed the angel back, shouting back, "oh, you know nothing of me!" She was now floating inches above the ground, using her bat-like wings to hover in place. "Trust me! Please, believe me! This won't stop the hurt for long!" Camilla begged. She looked up at the demon, now towering over her, with tears in her eyes. "We don't need to end like this. Look me in the eyes-" she was cut off by the demon in front of her. "Here comes the hero complex!" She said, feeling more and more pestered by the minute. "You call yourself a villain," Camilla began, overlapping Victoria as she mirrored her and said "I know I'm the villain," with a scowl. Camilla didn't stop, continuing with "but we know it's a disguise." Just as Victoria finished her own like with "but you're the one who lies!" Victoria's wings flapped faster in her frustration. "So, you're back at it again? Twisting and manipulating every word I've said." She threatened, her feet now nearly a foot off the stone floor under her. Camilla sank to her knees. "Come on, you know that's not true," she pleaded, "I was just trying to help you. Let me help you!" She insisted, Victoria suddenly landing in front of her, her wings spread in such a way it made her appear far bigger and dangerous than she truly ever has been. With tears starting to spill from her eyes, she screamed "you are not my hero!" She took a breath, lowering her volume. "You don't know how it felt," she choked out, turning back to face the night sky and fresh air, her back now to her lover. She had made up her mind, both of her hands rising to stroke the hair over her shoulder, the remaining hair resting between her wings. "What else could you do with the cards that I've been dealt?" Victoria mumbled, placing one hand on the stone railing in front of her. "You are not the villain," the breaking voice of the angel soothed, "you once held my hand." Victoria sighed, raising her head slightly, her decision having been made. "Stand up. Get out." Her head lowered again, knowing how much just her words would hurt the woman she loved. "Sometimes, things don't go as planned." She placed one foot on the railing, using it to take off into the night sky. Tears streaming down her cheeks, she had decided that she would never see Camilla again. After all, a demon could never be with an angel.

i think this version is better than the spotify version in my opinion (they both great) because it keeps in the line of “is a dying broken heart.” and the ending just feels like it has more emotion. this i just my opinion and it’s an amazing song either way

My guess: They were both “villains” on the same side and were both friends. Till the girl on the left went over to the “good” side behind the girls back. And the girl on the left is trying to convince her that she’s sorry and bring her to the good side, but the girl on the right is already “broken” and won’t come over to the side. I love the regal tone of the "hero". It just adds to the hero complex of the character. And I just live for the line "Twisting and manipulating every word I said". The way you sing it it just so verbally satisfying.
