I work at a battery store and can confirm this is the most common, most likely cause. Often the battery light will not light up, which is supposed to warn you of such an issue. To test, just start the car and make sure the voltage is above 13v but not over 14.5v.
It’s crazy I use to watch you in middle school bro when you were first starting I wish we could see what year we subscribed to people. Glad to see your vids again I still to this day say doll hair instead of dollar from your vid back then. Hope all is well 🤟
Easiest way to see if you have a draw is to take a fresh batt, attach the neg, take the pos cable and touch the pos post. If it sparks whilst the key is off, you have a parasitic draw. Now it's a process of elimination. Start with aftermarket mods such as an alarm, horns, lights etc etc, remove/isolate suspected culprit and try drawing the pos cable across the pos post to see if it still makes sparks. Good luck my friend. EDIT - when doing this test, make sure the interior lights and under hood light, if it has one, are off!
I second this I had a truck that had a bad draw turns out my dumb ass installed the radio wrong and eventhough it looked off with the key off it was still on
This isn't true. Vehicles have computers on board and they have capacitors which are just small rechargeable batteries basically. They will store energy so settings and other things are not lost with the vehicle off. Everything has an acceptable amount of parasitic draw due to this. Spec is usually in the manual
@@Bassandbackpacks lol you think that 'normal everyday draw' is going to produce sparks that are comparable to a parasitic draw that drains a battery in hours?
get a multimeter and you can see how much draw it’s taking by removing one of the cables and create a jumper between the post and the cable with your multimeter, after confirming there is a draw. You can remove fuses one at a time and jumper where the fuse is supposed to be and whatever one has a voltage drop is where your draw is
Rest in Peace Pharaoh's Lost Kingdom/Splash Kingdom. used to love going there as a kid. the family that owned back in the day, The Braswells, they owned a convalescent hospital on my street and their old Pharaoh's Lost Kingdom parade float is still back there decaying, i can see it from my backyard every day
Morning morning bro happy Saturday from New Zealand. That looked like gorgeous weather, The barbecue looked tender as ferk, Americans sure do love to eat out alot compared to where I'm from or maybe it's just me I can't remember the last time I ate out I love cooking. Have a blessed weekend Bro, And don't worry I turned 41 or 42 this year talk about time ferkn flying 😂, Definitely enjoy life and don't waste life working everyday for another person. I'm all about living life first and making money second.
You should take off your negative terminal. Hook up a volt meter between the battery post and the terminal you've removed. you'll probably see a small draw because any car with computers, etc will always draw a bit of current, but never TOO much. Keep that hooked up and start taking out each fuse and check if that draw changes. When you pull out a fuse and the draw disappears, then that's the circuit with the issue. If it's your alternator, inside is something called a Diode Trio. There are 3 separate windings inside the alternator, each wire has a flow of electrons when the alternator spins. so each diode is like a 1 way valve. They let the electrons out towards the battery but prevent them from coming back through the diode and to ground. So if one of those diodes becomes faulty then electricity can leak through the diode and drain the battery. So for checking that.. You could simply remove the ground cable from the alternator. Hope that helps. If anything, that's enough to get you started.
They totally re-newed Redlands!! Some buildings are vintage tho👌🏼! Bad ass, I work at a tattoo shop on the other side of the freeway. We do tattoos, piercings and if ur lady wants permanent makeup. We gotta shop on the side of the freeway you’re on in this video
You have no idea how much I appreciate you still uploading and keeping it consistent... Thank you, thank you very much for sticking around! Cheah! (^_^)b
Check your voltage with the engine running, to make sure your alternator is charging, should be close to 14 volts. Time definitely goes faster the older you get. My grandparents and dad are from the San Bernardino and Redlands area, I was born in Loma-Linda. Grandparents lived in San Bernardino in the 30’s. Maybe you can check out Loma-Linda some day, we lived on coal street for a short time.
hey bakerxdickhead, i used to fervently watch years ago, So happy to see you're still uploading, loved the video. CHEAH! Also i'm not from cali and I say mount-in not mount-ain lol
Dude I’ll be 35 in February as well, I felt that! Also I’m a mechanic. 1st thing I’d check on the Civic would be completely disabling the aftermarket alarm system. Seen those cause issues on any car as the system ages. Good luck bro.
I had a O’Reilly battery and had to go through 3 batteries before I finally got a good one. They are horrible batteries. The alarm is not your culprit.Either keep exchanging till you get a good oreilly battery or spend some extra money and get a optima battery and make sure it’s not a bad battery.
Electrical gremlins (like power draws) can often be a pain in the butt to deal with. My 1997 Miata has one, and I don't have the time to diagnose it right now, so I just keep a battery tender on it. It at least keeps the battery charged for when I need to drive the car haha.
B deezy , on the Hondas check the brake light switch , it’s behind the petal and sometimes the plastic nut breaks, happened to my Honda civic, makes the brakes light stay on kills the battery
Hey Derek. power draws are a bit of a hard thing to diagnose. If it drains overnight than it is something that takes a lot of power. Lights and such. If it takes a week or so it is likely the alarm. Or some other small amperage draw.
For the power draw. Easiest thing is to unplug every aftermarket electric component ie) radio, subwoofers and amps, led interior light strips.Leave unplugged overnight and see if it starts in the morning. You mentioned a security system, if it’s an after market one like the brand “viper” is a big brand, will almost always fix customers of mine parasitic draw. Check with multimeter and insure alternator is putting out while running.
Lmao you know bXd is up to date with memes etc putting in the hawk tuah in here. 😆 As of Friday June 21st I didn't know what was going on about it until my colleagues were mentioning it. 😆Now it's all known I guess. And mind you we're in The Netherlands. 😆 Anyway as of your power draw, it might be the alarm, yes. Maybe you can deactivate it by pulling the wires out if they're on the battery too. Maybe pull the fuse too. Cause it would make sense that they get a continuous power source. Unless they're wired to somewhere else. Can also be a little stupid thing like a phone charger in cigarette lighter plug if the car has one. Or if it has an (upgraded) audio system in that keeps drawing power of the battery due to the remote cable not being connected. Because when you do, it stops the power from going there if the ignition is off. Hope it helped! Also enjoy the wedding!
+1 on the alternator. My 240 with ls swap the alternator likes to go bad and cause this. It's happened 4x. A diode gets suck. The car alarm could cause it also
Power Draw is A little complicated but doable. Unhook the positive battery cable. Grab a multimeter and set it to measure amperage. Put one lead of the multimeter to the positive battery cable the other to the positive battery post. This will measure the amperage passing through (the parasitic draw). Most multimeters have a limit of 10A so hopefully its not a huge draw and your under that. With the multimeter in line and reading amps. begin unplugging fuses from the fuse box one at a time replacing as your done. What you are looking for is the fuse that causes the amperage to drop significantly. When you find the fuse that causes a huge drop, you now know that that circuit is the circuit that has the parasitic draw. From there you can begin diagnosis on that circuit to find the short. Note, your amperage wont ever be zero as your radio is going to pull a little amperage even with the car off.
Yes l, Californians have what I would call a subtle accent. I had a co-worker who grew up there and moved to NYC. I used to hear him talk often enough for over a few years. Fast forward, one day I was at the airport and these two guys in front of me on line were talking and I could tell. I asked them and sure enough. When I went on vacation to LA last summer I mostly heard Spanish almost 95% of the time though.
Dude don''t even fix the power drain problem. Just keep your battery unhooked when you don't use. Them power draws are difficult to trace (unless it's an obvious glove box light or somethin)... OMG those briskets look damn good!
Mountain sounds normal the way you say it... I'm in Ohio but had a buddy that would spend summers here from Riverside. The only difference was him saying "look it!" all the time. We don't say that here... and I've noticed you saying that before, too.
Could be a glove box light permanently on. Its a known issue on hondas. The plunger wears out and doesnt reach enough to turn the glove box light off when you close the glove box door.
Get a multimeter. Put it in amps. Disconnect your negative battery terminal and put the meter tips on the battery negative terminal and the negative on the battery itself. Anything over .008 amps is probably too much. If you have a big draw, start pulling fuses. Pull one fuse, check meter, replace fuse and go to the next one until you find one that has the draw. Once you do you know where to look because it's something in the circuit that fuse is powering.
get yourself a multimeter with DC amp clamp, put it on a battery terminal, and start pulling fuses one by one. You can also use a cheap wired meter, but if you accidentally turn on something you will fry the meter.
I am goin to try the spirt of Texas. They close early. I always say Rialto is the armpit of San Bernardino and Redlands is the title of SB! I love and hate the lane splitting! Be safe! ❤
So a trick is to use a headlight as your guild. You put two wires on it and hook it up in series with the negative terminal. Then start taking off fuses put them back in if the light doesn’t turn off. When you pull the right fuse or relay that’s your culprit.
It could be a bad alternator. If you use it often, the alternator may not be working properly. It may be completing the circuit, but not charging the battery when it needs to.
If you have any aftermarket subs or lights I’d definitely go there first. Also to verify if it is pulling a load while the car is off check with a multi meter. The batter should read 12v plus or minus .05 or so
I had the same question about boot repair businesses, but believe it or not steel toe boots/ soles are only good for about 3-6 months and at +$200 a pair. It’s probably worth repairing them.
Check radio wiring and also the cigarette lighter/ outlet I’ve had multiple Hondas with those issues also make sure you have the code to unlock the radio when disconnecting the battery idk if yours will have it or not some do
Remove neg cable install test light Neg cable to test light probe end to negative battery post. If light is lite you have a draw At fuse box remove each fuse one at a time then reinstall until light goes out. When light go out that the Circuit draw is in. Check wiring diagram. To see what components are in the circuit
while power draw troubleshooting disconnect things till you find a change in its power draw.. but yes the car alarm can be a problem probably shorting out.
@bakerXderek Hey man! I’m a full time mechanic, see tons of starters in 08 civics go, very common and not the easiest job to do but can be done quick if you know what you’re doing :) If you have a multimeter just test the voltage across your battery terminals if you dont then just see if all the power operated things work normally and this will let you know if the starter could be going
I would start at any aftermarket installs then go to the radio then your heating system controls, turn signals or any of the lights to be honest. dome lights are big culprits!
You need an mutimeter. There are some good videos about parisitic draw. Basicly you hook up the multimeter and start unplugging stuff until the volts go down on the meter.
Ha I never noticed you had an accent but my mom also grew up in Cali so I'm probably just use to it. I think you've pointed out mine once before cause I got that Minnesooooota O thing bad.
to test for a draw take your volt meter one side to the pos post on the battery and the other side to the pos cable ignition off start pulling fuses till the draw goes away
Car alarm, dash cam, usb adapter? If it's not something simple get a multimeter and pull fuses and check for a draw. There's lots of vids here and a meter is a great investment if you dont have one.
The diodes in the alternator can fail, causing a battery to drain. I would look there, it sounds like a serious draw. If you take it back to oreillys they should be able to test that for you by hooking up to the battery
Why do u take the 210 to the 215, to the 10? When you can go 210 towards Redlands, to the 10 and off the first exit being Orange? U around SB for nothing.
You’re going to take a multimeter and set it to milliamp go fuse by fuse “circuit by circuit” the fuse will have an exposed prong you can probe onto it one by one and check for the highest draw by circuit on the box
Get a digital volt meter and hook it to the battery, set the meter to 10 amps and start pulling fuses and relays to see which one is drawing power! Or if you have a thermal camera you can aim it at the fuses or relays and see which one is producing a small amount of heat! More than likely it's a relay stuck on or something stupid like the radio drawing power!
I’d bet it’s your alarm pulling a draw. Annnnd when I was in the military people knew I was from California and said I had an accent. People always knew I was from California. Also the way we say Sacramento compared to others.
It's a switch sometimes cruise control or something. Pull fuse at one time and check the between the cables and battery on one side maybe it's just a switch gone bad or something broke off keeping brake light on. Had that happen to me brake likes was on for a while killed battery it was just a rubber bumper
I have the same thing but once I jump it I can start it back up over and over even though the battery just seemed completely dead, brand new battery, no aftermarket alarm though
You only need to hook up a test light to a battery specific way and pull each fuse till the light goes off and that’s the circuit you know that has the parasitic draw
Disconnect anything aftermarket. Then if that doesn't work try process of elimination starting with the easy things to get to first. You'll need an electrical tester.
check alternator might be dead ..not charging ...check the voltage output with a multi-meter some cars want closer to 14v to keep battery charged properly. not sure what ur civic alt is rated at but its a start.
could be the alternator not effectively charging the battery, full battery with a bad alternator will allow the battery to be drained immediately after one short drive. Either its a big pull off the battery for unknown reasons or the battery isn't being charge after you startup while driving. same thing will happen to bikes if the stator is bad.
Great point- I had a bad stator in my Susexy and a bad alternator in my Avy go bad in the same month. Both batteries drained while driving and could not be jumped. I also suspected bad batteries both times, and both times had new batteries die quickly. Test that alternator. Easy fix.
