Now that Splatoon 3's been out for a bit and I'm seeing this again, what if this reversed message in the blender scene is the last recorded words of humanity counting down to the launch of the Alterna rocket that led to their extinction?
@@neemis7796 they might have seen it as a new year, as I belive the people of Alterna wouldn't have calender or anything to tell the day or year, so them leaving the earth would be a new begining. This for them would be a new year, a new start which (sadly) didn't follow through with what they wished.
I actually for the longest time thought it was the reminents of the past thousands of subjects counting down to freedom just to be brutally killed and hense you hear screams of agony
@@Jackapod it could be A) what swagmaster said B)The last recording before the poles unfroze (or the great war) C) the humans celebrating an alterna rocket's takeoff that could have killed them all
Well Tartar is essentially following his program to help civilization prosper by passing on the story of humanity to the next species that rises from the ashes of civilization, I guess with the construction of the blender was a way to celebrate the start of a new era as this was supposed to be beneficial to creating a better civilization, a celebration worthy of a count down, much like how we would ring in a new year.
I actually have a another theory to this reversed audio. In one of the alterna logs they mentioned once the rocket was launched for the first time disaster happened one of the boosters overloaded with crystals inside exploded causing alterna to collapse with the entire remaining humans on planet earth. So this audio is trying to reference the countdown to where the humans are celebrating the launch of the rocket but a few moments in the rocket malfunctioned and caused the Alterna to crumble and flood. I’m not sure if it’s correct but that’s just my theory. Let me know or update me if this audio is almost related to one of the logs!
Interesting idea! While the countdown here is a new years count down rather that a rocket launch countdown, maybe they could still have been forshadowing the Alterna thing with this. But that makes me curious to know if Tartar and the Professor even had any connections to Alterna, maybe the Professor was one of the people escaping with the Ark Polaris, so him and Tartar may not be related to Alterna
@@ardninI mean, the rocket launch in Alterna could've been purposefully synced with new years day. Humanity's escape from the pit of Alterna on a day all about new beginnings and reinventing one's self.
I saw this somewhere else, but before the ‘happy new year one two three…’ you can hear screams of ‘DO NOT GO IN DO NOT GO IN’. In the comment I saw it in, they said it was the test subjects before Agent 8. But… octolings / any other specie dont speak english… so was it possible that tar tar was experimenting on humans as well? Or is it the professor (that made tar tar and is the owner of judd) that is screaming ‘DO NOT GO IN’ because we all know tar tar manifested in a way that he… well… didnt quite expect in…
if you listen closely (you cant hear it in this video) when you are about to enter the blender you will hear voices that say “Don’t go in” this is the octolings that have been blended before all 10,006 of them.
I cannot find any video that has the blender cutscene where it says that I tried to listen as closely as I could but I have had no luck what so ever so if you could idk link me a video or something of the sort I would appreciate it.
Well I believe not all subject passed the test some could have just given up and lived in the Deepsea Metro not to mention not all of them are Octolings Iso Padre is an example
also wanna point out that the little jingle is similar to the fish stick jingle, and the fish stick has a similar tech as a blender so this blender was taken by octarians afterwards, likely deconstructed for tech, and then they gave the tech to the salmonids in exchange for the eggs as per the trade deal iirc
Yeah, I'm actually planning to make a video in the future on the fishstick melody and directly comparing it to the blender melody. I don't really see how the Fishstick would use tech from the Blender, but that would be an interesting way to explain why they sing this melody if it's true. It would make sense regarding the trade agreement between the Salmonids and Octarians
Here's something I picked up, being into audio mixing/design: The speech is reversed, but when the blender is being built it still counts down 10 to 1. So that means they reversed the audio BUT still put the numbers and Happy New Year in the correct order counting down. Because if they just left it reversed, it would go "HNY", and THEN count down.
It's still weird how all the numbers are backwards too. As if Captain Tartar was purposely distorting it, into a way they wanted it. For their perfect world.
It's his sort of messed up way of saying that a new "year" is about to begin, where everything will go back to what it was, and the subject will get to part from the promised land again.
It fucks me up seeing as for splatoon of all things this is *real* dark. If the lore wasn’t dark already the very heavy implication that 8 and cuttlefish could’ve died horribly like that is terrifying. Then you’re told all 10,007 subjects before you met the fate you were saved from.
Octo expansion is so amazing in it's details. I didn't even notice this in my playthrough. Like, even the mf blender is based off those deep sea jellyfish that use little hairs to swim which look like rainbow lights when they shimmer. Exactly like the blender!
As fun as it is to speculate about any hidden meaning behind this, my head canon is that the devs were just, "Hey we need some chanting sound effects for this scene. What should we use?" "Well, I have this video from the recent New Years Party." "Perfect!" Interesting to note that each number (and cheer) are all reversed individually and not as one recording.
This would be a perfectly reasonable explanation for literally any other game. Y'know, games that don't have several different decipherable languages with little messages everywhere. Or games that don't have in-game BRANDS and even bands to build the world, all having it's own lore as well. If you look around, EVERYTHING means SOMETHING in the Splatoon world.
I believe that tartar recorded this before humans went extinct. But be used he's like really old he reversed it including the scream. Which I believe is the actual screams of human before they died. So yeah this theory made me kinda sad that people never got to deserve the new year and instead perished
For those of you thinking it's the humans counting down the rocket launch, the original countdown can be heard in Alterna in human speech. It's just saying numbers and doesn't have any English words in it. edit: i don't remember making this comment
@@greenberrygk i mean, more people have heard the same as me... and this is the same scene when a telephone is going to kill you with a blender and mentioned 10007 test subjects before you. Not to mention that there are 6 blenders attached in the "blaster" of the final battle. The phrase "Nintendo is not that Edgy" doesn't count.
My crackpot theories and remember, this isn't canon 1: The scientist didn't die, but was a veteran scientist when Alterna was around, or at least was there to help establish the concept. As the scientist worked through the nights, trying to establish and invent a way for humans to survive this war in a bunker to live in peace. He settled on a large, spherical dome that would lay safely underneath the ground, surrounded by lead, to shield from the nukes being launched constantly, with his cat Judd to keep him company. As the wars escalated, he realized humanity might not have much time left here on earth. Because of this, he established 2 systems, one to guard the dome, which he had nicknamed the project, "Polar Dome," just for the time being. (This is where the ship name Ark Polaris comes in.) Another was to help the next upcoming sentient life, for whenever that may be. He had no established name, and decided to let the technology decide for itself, as he had already programmed it with a "conscience" to help guide it and the next era of life. THis would backfire tremendously, because, just like humans, they go mad, insane, and disconnected with society. He wasn't thinking of the fact that a machine would go insane, but later, in the coming months, he gave the files, blueprints, and plans of this dome, or Polar Dome, to an upcoming group of scientist that were invested in also finding a way to preserve human life. The scientist had received international funding for their studies and research. They agreed to this, and they named it, "Alterna," or the alternate world, cut off from the violence up above them. They constructed the dome around 7 years before the nuke to hit Antartica, and unknowingly, wipe out the human race as they knew it, was scheduled to hit. They installed the guidance system, or O.R.C.A into the tech of Alterna around 6 months before completion. He knew quite well that the end of humanity was coming soon, as the threats between countries escalated, as the threats were becoming actions, and actions became consequences. He decided on Christmas day, 2015, that he would record what he knew would be the Last New Year's ball drop. New York had been overrun with crime as the wars were mainly held between America, Russia, and a handful of countries in Asia, and some in Europe. The ball drop had been happening for the past 4 years in Washington D.C. Virginia, as he headed to there with a small microphone and the guidance system's memory card. Recording the file, and heading back to his home, he coded the file into his systems, and coded it so if it was New Years, or someone found the software, this message would play, as a sort of celebratory hymn. Months later, in around May, international neutral news stations had declared a triple digit ton nuke was flying towards Antarctica. Months ahead of time, the scientists set up a ticket system to reserve a spot in Alterna. The housing wasn't completed, yet materials were there, went the nuke hit, so as the scientist cryogenically froze his cat, and himself, they world flooded, as his machine was unplugged by a careless cephalopod creature far into the future. 2: The rocket launched on New Years, as the people desperately tried to tell the scientists to not go in, as they might die. They go in anyways, and count down till new year's day as the rocket begins to fire up, and launch. As it slowly descends back down, crashing into Alterna's walls, the crowd slowly realizes this giant rocket is going to fall onto the crowd, as it explodes and the crowd yells in fear. 3: Building off the last theory, the people left alive see the rocket still barely flying, as it soars though the roof, as they dodge the raining glass plates keeping them safe underground. They watch as the rocket pushes though the thin water level, as the water around Alterna begins to flood in, and as they all succumb to their fate, they get to see the real sky, The real blue sky flood in as the rocket soars over head, as it's engines stop, slamming into what the Inklings and Octolings of 10,020 now know as Ark Polaris. The scientists inside however, do not die, as their impact was unfortunately braced by the thick metal at the front of the ship. Making their way out, they soon realize there is no vegetation, no plant or animal life. For the next couple weeks, they feed off of the food supplies, as they search for a way out, but to their futile efforts, it was rendered useless, as all plants had been submerged, as all the other sea life was so far deep into the ocean, with no ways of reaching it, they starved to their death, with no way out.
