In this video, I dive into into DedF1sh/Acht and sanitization! It's pretty much as deep of a dive we can take at the moment. I do a bit of speculation, but that's par for the course!
There isn't alot of info about DedF1sh out at the moment, so I thought I'd bring everything we know about them to light! There are a ton of misconceptions about them, so hopefully this video helps you learn more about the lore of a very interesting octoling and sanitization!
They're about to be in the Side Order DLC, so why not make a video about them! Admittedly this video would have been more relevant a few weeks ago...

I personally would find it very interesting if side order actually does take place in old inkopolis square, because anyone can freely travel between inkopolis plaza and the splatlands, but then it would be neat if square is a quarantined area and they send 8 to figure out whats going on

Yeah! I mean they could just add in the fact that something happened to Inkopolis Square like how they added the news sequence about Octolings! It could still happen! Just like Octolings, I'd be cool if you unlocked Inkopolis Square as a hub area after you beat Side Order.

@squidsofty8507 In the concept art they did have sanitized doctors with guns that lookes like syringes, but probs got scrapped due to it being E10 even though A8 almost gets blended alive lmaoo I hope they revisit thay concept as well as Tartar's original design for a bit of a horror experience if they decide for us to go back to the metro (The metro still exists even though the NILS statue collapsed, so something wicked might be brewing there...)

Something that always stuck out to me about Marina's profile at 7:30 is the "Gen 83" bit. Given the timescale of the Great Turf War it seems to be her birthday, but it feels like a weirdly clinical way of describing it. Even back then it gave me the impression that maybe the Octoling soldiers were clones. The lower Octarian troops are already established as a more primitive kind of clone (cut tentacles), so it kind of fits. We've already seen the Agent 8 clones in the first teaser, so keeping in mind that color variations are just part of Splatoon cloning, maybe Marina and Acht come from the same batch, this "Gen 83"?

I think that Dedf1sh was the person who was going to sing ebb and flow with Marina because the demo does have missing vocals which I believe was meant to be sung by Acht

No, partial sanitization does exist. That's why the tips of Dedf1sh's hair are the normal Octarian shade of red instead of it being all blue and green, like the sanitized enemies in Octo Expansion, and it's also why she isn't a zombie, can speak full coherent thoughts, and recalls some of her memories.

Partial sanitation is what happened to Agent 3?

@@bessieburnet9816 Not really. What happened to the at-the-time Agent 3 was a mind hijacking. While, yes, Commander Tartar's primordial ooze is the driving force of both this and the sanitization process of the unfortunate Octarian souls involved, the fact that Agent 3 was able to be freed with no effect on their memory or personality implies that there was no sanitization. I'm confident that the goo that took control of Agent 3 is a sample of the "ultimate lifeform" that Tartar mentions in the cutscene following that fight- operating as a parasitic organism. To my knowledge, it isn't stated how Tartar made the primordial ooze in the first place, but to me it looked like he had some on hand before he even began sanitizing anyone. But I digress. Sanitization is a much different and far more complex process than what what to Agent 3. According to context in-game and in art books, it's more like taking a bath or shower in the primordial ooze solution, usually against one's will, until all proper bodily functions shut down and every bit of their individuality is washed away. Basically, one is converted into a zombie via some crazy forbidden science. This is why it is interesting that 'partial sanitization' is an existing concept, and by proxy why Dedf1sh is an interesting case.

Yes partial sanitisation probably does exist, since what happened with agent 3 although you could count that as more mind hijacking. However Dedf1sh is not partially sanitised.

note for dedf1sh's name: acht may just be a nickname she uses, or english localization. also, in the japanese version of side order, the reason she's known as mizuto is most likely japanese localisation, because in Japan, a person's name is spelt and spoken the opposite way of how we write and say names in the west (in japan, they say surname before first name, in the west, we say first name before surname)

Fun fact: dedf1sh and marina was in a band, and there was a third member to though I don't know the name of the person but it's the octoling person from a band called entropical

Now that we have Side Order, I have a feeling they retroactively added meaning to their tracks. Track #8 can be interpretted as Acht's regret over Marina, considering the emphasis on the Calamari Inkantation and how much that song affected Marina. It's very possible Acht regretted not going with her or not spending more time with her. Looking in this context, I feel as though the other songs make more sense. The tenseness of the songs following are due to the results of 3's and Octavio's fight, and Acht trying to fit in despite feeling alone and not really aligning with the Octarians, and #35 is likely when they get taken by Tartar.

Interesting that you can kind of skew Acht as “Ey-cht” and it sounds similar to 8 as well. Probably more coincidence than anything, but still interesting.

Acht is just the German and Dutch word for eight; both of those languages are very closely related to English, meaning those words are of common origin.

Something I never see people talk about, is that Nintendo put a character from a lore that isn't really shown ingame previously, and introduced her in a simple but servicable way. With a few lines in the trailer, we know she isn't a normal enemy from the previous DLC, and we know she is someone who is sentient and who can talk. There might be people and players that are kinda outside of the splatoon community that would not know anything about dedf1sh. To be honest, I only really know her because of lore videos on youtube.

Oh and as for Side Order, I think we will see Pearl in the flesh at some point in the story, because they have a new icon that has a visor on the palette selection menu They also might be in a simulation created by Marina, who said that "beyond this chaotic world, there may be a world of order that is beyond our comprehension" and that they "would like to construct a new frontier with the power of art" from a Marie x Marina x Big Man interview in the Splatune 3 album I just got these from a few posts lol soooo maybe take those with a grain of salt Now that I'm done sharing the gloriousness of Tartar and a few stuff I noticed, I love your vids!!!!!

I honestly hope that this is a simulation of some sort. I think that would be super interesting and honestly the best route to go down. I think the world of side order doesn't look like the normal setting of Splatoon. Sure, something could've happened to Inkopolis Square, but I think it's more!

I know what you're talking about and I thought that too. I couldn't find a 100% source for that though. The twitter post says "You know them as Dedf1sh, underground DJ extraordinaire, but get ready to meet them as Acht..." which honestly does not help that much.

Nintendo of Europe's post says "The artist formerly known as “Dedf1sh” used to perform underground. Now going by the name of “Acht”, they might know a thing or two about the Spire of Order that could help Agent 8 in Wave 2 of the #Splatoon3: Expansion Pass, Side Order." It isn't clear whether it is referring to their actual name, or just the name used in the game @@NackSploon

haven’t really dove too deep within side order theories but from what I can gather is that the world side order takes place in is a simulation constructed by marina. a wip construction as the simulation still looks unfinished and glitches. I’m guessing acht and dedfish are two separate entities, acht being part of the simulation and dedfish being real. the real dedfish is probably not around (unsure if alive or not) due to the alterna story mode having a track called #35 caught, which makes it seems like she was infected by the fuzzy ooze in the story mode. idk this is pretty much a shot in the dark.

another guess I have is the reason why dedfish is sanitized in the simulation is due to the probable chance that marina knows acht was sanitized into dedfish but doesn’t know she was later mutated by the fuzzy ooze since off the hook wasn’t around in the alterna story mode

Very interesting theory and yeah that would make a lot of sense! I really want Acht to be part of some sort of simulation. I don't know, it just seems really neat if Marina had constructed the world and Acht as well! The #35 caught track makes me think something happened to them. I know the developers said that the tracks were named after how the song makes you feel, but I think it still has some sort of meaning.

Simple thing, sanitization only works when applied continuously. Just like Strider and his group in Stalker Call of Pripyat, whom got out of Monolith influence.

As a person who follows the lore very heavily, its very likely that her pronouns are most likely still feminine. Nintendo used "they" and "them" in the tweet to set a mood of how mysterious she is. She has been refered to as a girl for the last 6 years. And i feel that people are gonna explode when they find out that she is a girl when its shown in the game. But hey. We have to wait till it releases. I dont care about the change of her gender, it could be good to have a non binary character, but its a shame that people can be blinded from the obvious truth by their beliefs. Great video. Her appearance truly leaves a lot of questioning in the air. She is my favourite splat artist and has been since 2018. I can wait to see the future of the character.

@@the_veemonator What you said about their pronouns is certainly true. I think it would be cool if they went by they/them, but I understand that it isn't super likely. In this video, just to be safe, I decided to go with they/them. I want to respect the newly provided pronouns just in case. Thank you for the compliment though! Working on this video made me realize that we know very little about Dedf1sh's past! DedF1sh's music is honestly great and I hope there's all sorts of newly created tracks in side order! And honestly I got so many notifications about the comments as was so confused lol. Don't worry though! It boosts me in the algorithm haha!

i kinda wish we have male sanitized octoling instead of recurring female octolings because the male octarians we saw are nothing but solidiers/goons/sliced tentacles who didn't appear as citizens on inkopolis square or plaza after splatoon 2. they're like martyrs by music and ink effects. octolings are alive by their sheer luck and spawn points shown on the games.

@@JapanOctoWarrior originally back in spaltoon 2, Deadfish was assigned as she/her. So I personally would just stick with that. I think Nintendo was trying to just be mysterious with Desdfish because she has a new name: Acht. We have to wait until the dlc comes out though

Why in side order acht is called acht, and why in octo expansion why is she called dedfish? Next question: Agent 8 in side order might be the new agent 8 and the past agent 8 might have got sanitized before side order.agent 8 might be twins with dedfish and dedfish might not even have a name?
