Made a Notepad cheat sheet from this video. I wish you could program your own colour pallets. I use the "synthwave" colours. I don't like the Classic 808 colours because those look much better on the actual TR-808.

Thank you very much! Enjoying all your videos especially for Roland products. I have TR-8 and could not find out how to make snare drum sound similar to acoustic metallical sounding. If it is possible and what FX pedal to use? I have tried internal FX and MX-1.

10 Minutes of pleasure for every Tr8 fan! Whats with the 7 and 8 step Buttons in the setup mode? I cant find informations about their functions.

The 7 is for Pattern sequencer's operating mode: if lit = precise timing, if unlit = pattern sequencer operates with timing modeled from the TR-808 (default value). 8 is for HiHat Link : if lit =the CH tune controls both sound (CH and OH), the CH Level controls level of both CH and OH sounds, the OH tune knobs adjust the master tuning of cymbal type sounds (if they are the one selected).

Thank you for the extremely educational videos I am a guitarist and just getting into synthesizers to try and get myself back into music (as I had a stroke) . I was hoping you might have some advice so I can sync this to my korg gear like minilogue monologue and even perhaps volcas. I think the setting I need is 2pq, am I able to change the pulses or equivalent on the tr8 please as I am very interested in it and having the onboard effects would help save me money. Any help would be thoroughly appreciated as I really enjoy this machine and want something that sounds fantastic and I agree with you it's awesome. One more thing. I'm trying to go dawless. 8) Any help would be really appreciated and thanks again for all your help. Cheers from New Zealand

Hi, great video! do you know if there is a way to remove choke on OHH? so that CHH and OHH can both play together?

Not o my knowledge. It works like original TR... any acoustic drum for that mater. You can't play and open hi hat and a close hi hat from the same hi hat. It can only be in one of the 2 states.

Hi mate, hope you're well. Many thanks for taking the time and effort in making this video. just quick question. Although the volume is adjustable on master outs, I can not find any way on doing this to the assignable outputs. There is a significant difference between master and assignable output. Any thoughts?

The assignable outputs do not have volume out control. It need to be control in the receiving device (AKA a mixer) or FX processor. I usually send them to another mixer input for separate processing and control.

Excellent, really helpful thank you. Is it possible to have different tuning on separate bass drum steps? if so how do I do it? Eg steps 1 & 9 a nice thump sound but steps 5 & 13 a more prolonged sound. I’m trying to replicate the drums in Chris Rea Expresso Logic track1

Hi, there is no motion sequence on the TR-8. But it sends and receives MIDI messages for most of the knobs and sliders on its front panel. So using a sequencer (Live for exemple) you could record in real time or draw on screen the knob values.

U say 6 is for scatter and than u say 6 is for midi clock an song Information, what is now right.. Sorry wen I am wrong.. Can u explain maybe with a new video 7>8 and in the update Mode the button 1>9? This will be great.. I know it's not easy to make this videos.. But u help us so much.! Thanks again And stay healthy! Hi there, I recently bought a TR-8 after watching your videos on that machine. I really like it. It has the 7x7-upgrade installed. One question; is there a way to "tie" a certain kit to a pattern? Or is the kit selection always global for all the patterns? Kind regards, Hans.

@@Nu-trix I really looked everywhere - your videos, the cheat sheet and of course in the machine itself. That being said, I am 98% sure that I had this happen while playing with the TR-8. That it changed kits when I changed patterns. Strange 😀

good day i have owned tr-8 for a long time i liked the videos you made but you should create a problem with the machine you have chosen. I want to ask something different. I noticed that the Tr-8in Ableton was delayed a few ms while recording or performing live, including live, and I could not find a solution to this problem. According to my internet research, there is a chronic problem, I would love to hear if anyone has a solution or suggestion. Stay with music!

Hi, I am connecting my roland tr8 to my mx1 via usb. When I have my mx1 at 44k my tr8 sounds fine. When my mx1 is at 96, my tr8 audio is glitvhy and unuseable. I want to use 96k so my digital input works with my analog to digital convertor, which only works at 96k. Any ideas whats going on? the mx1 is meant to match sample rates for the aira range, and the tr8 should be coming through at 96k

From Roland Support page : MX-1: CHANGING THE SAMPLING RATE Tags: aira, MX-1, sample rate OverviewBy default, the MX-1 as an internal sampling rate of 96k. This can be changed to 48k, and 44.1k. If you are running a session at 48k with the MX-1 as the sound-card, you should check that the MX-1 is changed accordingly. This also pertains to the Digital Input/Output jack. The connected piece of gear should share the same sample rate as the MX-1 in order to hear it correctly. ProcessTo change the sample rate: 1. While holding down the [GAIN] button, turn on the power.2. Use the buttons, knobs and the pads to change the settings.3. Press the [BFX] button and turn the [VALUE] knob. This will change the sample rate.4. Press [START/STOP] button to save the settings. FYI...Other AIRA pieces have a fixed sample rate of 96k. The MX-1 can down-sample every AIRA piece, making them compatible with sessions outside of 96k!

Process: To change the sample rate: 1. While holding down the [GAIN] button, turn on the power. 2. Use the buttons, knobs and the pads to change the settings. 3. Press the [BFX] button and turn the [VALUE] knob. This will change the sample rate. 4. Press [START/STOP] button to save the settings.

FYI... Other AIRA pieces have a fixed sample rate of 96k. The MX-1 can down-sample every AIRA piece, making them compatible with sessions outside of 96k!

It's possible that 96K is putting to much strain on your computer. Change your buffer values to test around and find the best setting.

I am not using a computer, just a hardware set up. In theory the tr8 should be downsampled to the 44k session on the mx1, but it isnt doing this. I have not yet tried setting the tr8 bitrate on a pc - maybe this setting is retained once it isnt connected to a computer anymore.

(FROM the Roland Manual 7x7 expansion tr8 available on their web site) 7: Lit (ON) The pattern sequencer operates with precise timing. Unlit (OFF) The pattern sequencer operates with timing that models the TR-808 (Default) 8: Lit (ON) Use the CH [TUNE] knob to simultaneously adjust the tuning of CH and OH. The CH [LEVEL] fader simultaneously adjusts the volume of CH and OH. The OH [TUNE] knob adjusts the master tuning of cymbal-type sounds (TR606/TR-808 sounds only). Unlit (OFF) The CH/OH tuning and volume are adjusted by each controller (default setting).
