Hi there, Got this as a recommendation by way of the YT algorithms. And as someone based on the Fylde Coast who has a big interest in the Tramway, thank you. The big surprise or take away from this is seeing Tram Number 706, the Princess Alice, still being around. Watched that as being a feature of a Train Crazy Cab Ride DVD that I watched the other day coincidentally and thought in the intervening years between filming (2006, I think) and now (2022) had been gone for good. Thank you for showing us it is still here. All in all a brilliant video. Regards, Aaron.

Thanks Aaron. Yes there's lots of old trams in there. All with the hope of being restored and back in service one day. There's also 100's of Blackpool trams elsewhere on display around the country. So a lot of them have been kept alive, which is good to see. Including the ones in San Francisco too.

An excellent collection of those older trams. They had character and were well designed, any wonder that they were so popular with holiday makers. Thank you Darren for this great video with Mr. Evans deserving credit for explanation of the items.

Great to see. Last on the trams in the 70's! Did a tour of the system on the Dreadnought. Then next day on a boat and a twin. Fleetwood to Star Gate in a Dreadnought is an experience!

Thanks for this amazing video. The new trams are efficient and accessible but they just don’t compare with the history, variety and excitement of the heritage trams. When you were waiting at a tram stop in the old days you never knew what kind of tram was coming next!

Most were saved thanks to private owners and investors (much like the bus restoration clubs), not the council. Had it been left to the council they'd have all gone now.

Superb video mate. As a young kid from London, I first went to Blackpool in 1978 - and the trams fascinated me then, as they do even now. They remain an integral part of Blackpool's DNA. So sad that money cannot be sourced by Blackpool Borough Council to fund the roof repairs; in order to assist in keeping these historical masterpieces in good condition; particularly when you consider some of the utter tat that has been purchased along the sea front, masquerading as 'modern art'.
@severnsea3924
@severnsea3924 8 месяцев назад
I worked there as a bus/tram driver in the 80's and the sad thing is it's the way it is now (along with most of the rest of the town) because of neglect and mismanagement back then. In fact the tram depot didn't look much better then than it does now, and it was a fully working depot at that time (obviously they didn't have the new trams then which have their own, separate depot). THe roof leaked even then. Blackpool used to be a very busy place with millions of visitors every year and the tramways used to take huge sums of money, yet according to the council, who ran it of course, they were always skint. We were even the last town in the UK to run buses with the open platform at the back, which were awful to drive, again because of poor maintenance. Why other towns had new buses yet Blackpool couldn't afford any, well you'd have to ask the council. I'd love to know where the money really went.

Brilliant! Your reconstruction of Alan Bradley's death was mint. Very funny. I have always been fascinated with Blackpool's social history since going for the first time in 1974 aged just 7. I went to the Dr Who exhibition (Jon Pertwee was still the doctor) which was amazing to see an actual Dalek face to face. But what really scared me was the Louis Tussaud's waxworks chamber of horrors. Have you ever thought of looking into the history of Tussauds ? I bet they have a few old figures etc in their storeroom.

Hi Darren, as others have said you were like a kid in a sweet shop 👌Now the modern electric trams are efficient and comfortable but sterile as compared to the original bone shakers esp at illumination times. As a kid loved the open topped gondola? tram. The reverse seat backs. All wonderful memories, sighhhhh. I can't imagine the St Anne's gas powered trams at all, the scalelectric type pin puller sounded complex enough. That's the propulsion method used on the San Francisco tram/trolley system. How things come back into favour, the rush to create new tram systems and even the guided bus lanes we have coming into Manchester now. Cheers DougT in Mancs

I did the heritage illuminations tour in September 2023 on HMS Blackpool. If anyone goes to Blackpool please go on this. Its very good value for money. The crews are helpful and knowledgeable, but more importantly all the money goes to the upkeep of these buetiful historical trams.. Not only arre they the heritage of Blackpool but of the memories of holidays gone by and the greater country.

12:13 my uncle helped restore Bolton 66 he was a Wood working specialist hired by the restoration group, at the time the tram was just a hen coop. He rebuilt the upperdeck and made some new seating. There is a plaque on the inside as a dedication. He helped restore other trams as well after that, he must have been given a good review.

Great video! Would love to see the Hovertram up and running again! It was loosely based on the pioneering SR.N2 hovercraft from the early 60s. Powered by four gas turbine engines, Saunders-Roe Nautical 2 was one of the best looking hovercraft built, and could reach speeds in excess of 70 knots! Alas she was broken up after proving the concept. Let's get this 'SR.N2' flying again!

What an amazing place thanks very much for taking us there and to Dave Evans for showing you (and us!!) round. I'm pretty sure I would have gone to Blackpool as a little boy, but don't remember it, we used to go to Crich frequently to pick up my Gran from Halifax. Also fondly remember the Seaton and Great Orme tramways. I'm sure we will have some cine film of all of these places. I used to live near Rugby road which still has its tramlines and cobbles, something to look at next time down Southsea. Over here (Granada, southern Spain) things are going full circle. The extensive tramway lines that were taken out of service perhaps 50 years ago have started to be rebuilt to modern standards although only one line. There are even plans to rebuild the Sierra Nevada tramway, at least part of it. There is a good video worth watching of how it used to be originally filmed in cine and converted.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EC4P6Lpup54.html You looked like you had a good time even though the tram run you over!! The Standard tram was so called because it was to Blackpool's standard design, not because it looked like other trams elsewhere. The Blackpool Standard was a bogie tram. The ubiquitous Standard tram was a 4-wheel car, built by Dick,Kerr at Preston and generally referred to as a "Preston" car which, of course, would not go down well in Blackpool. Great video tour, things have changed since I last wandered around Rigby Road.

Just so you know, it isn't an actual Sunderland tram, but an old Blackpool one, made to look like one as Beamish bought it to add to their operational fleet. Sunderland had a few trams built in the 30's that were almost identical to Blackpool's, so when the old tramway closed for the upgrade in 2010, the Baloons were then mostly surplus, so they bought one, made it look like an old original Sunderland one and used it as a very useful, high capacity, all weather car for their museum line around the site at Beamish. After a few years there, it was withdrawn and donated back to Blackpool's Tramtown attraction. Hope this is of use to you. Many thanks.

Gas powerd trams , in kidderminster my home town the kidderminster gas company used to have gas powered trucks with a large gas bag on top of the roof full of gas 😟 and there were electric badges here , all a very long time ago , seem that history repeats it self , great video 👍

when on holidays there, i was always drawn to the trams (yeah well, been a rail enthusiast that tends to happen lol), and even rode to fleetwood on them. i havent been on the new fangled modern tosh yet, but it wont ever be the same as the old noisy rumbling track shaking trams....but least they do come out to playso we can still enjoy theoldness and originaly of the seaside line

I put an avert on both sides of the rocket tram back in the mid 90s with my friend who owns a sign writing business in Blackpool. The ad was for Whitegates estate agents and it took us a day to complete the tram. Fantastic memories... Darren, when is the vlog coming with the old big wheel carriages as the subject ?

The hotel is still there and near near the Grand hotel on north shore. It bears a blue plaque to say that opposite there Alan Bradley was run over 😄

I remember the trolley buses in Bolton, they went past our house, but I can't remember seeing trams there.

You are very welcome Charlotte. Hope it was of use and some interest for you. I could have gone into more detail as to how the similarities relate, but that would have taken a lot of explanation. So as you seem.to now have the basics, I'll just offer you any further assistance if required, but if you can find it all yourself, then that is equally absolutely fine as well. Cheers.

@@dancedecker I could do with learning more about the structure of why contact is made towards us. I feel humbled that they choose me to communicate their existence

@@charlottedevere4876 Thanks for asking about this,but if it is as I was told it is,then they don't get in touch. Not if Stone Tape is the way we see most things that we then perhaps regard as "ghosts". They aren't really there anymore. It's a type of "tape" made under certain conditions that we don't yet understand, if it is a real.thing of course. It just replays what was "recorded" onto the atmosphere, if certain conditions are repeated and we see the "tape". Accordingly it cannot react or relate to us, just like a video can't. I'm.not saying that some other entities don't exist,just that the stone tape versions, if that's what most people see, cannot react to anyone now, as they are simply this recorded "trapped" image. Hope this clarifies things a bit. . Cheers.

The illuminated trams made me think about, The Main Street Electrical Parade, at Walt Disney World, and Disneyland.
