A paddle trip out on the Ocklawaha during the recent 2015/2016 drawdown of the Rodman Dam reveals a magical place called Cannon Springs.
Correction: The turtle in the video is a common Snapping Turtle. Not an Alligator Snapping Turtle as captioned.

I can only hope they stop cutting these wonderful Oaks down . And building so much displacing all these native plants and animals . 🌎

I know. It’s so horrible what is happening to our life supporting ecosystems.

The dam isn't the problem with Florida's environment and wildlife. It's the invasion from the North and other countries. Read A Land Remembered. It's overpopulation that's the problem. Florida should have no more than one million people living in the state. The same people who move to Florida and cause the problems are the ones crying the most. A lot of Floridians were forced to flee the crime and overpopulation decades ago, especially Orlando. Those who like rural living are running out of places to flee to.

Surely you can’t believe u could restore it to its original state look at the echo system u would be destroying would have to remove moss bluff and lock system in Harris chain also would never be back to its original state

It wouldn’t be a matter of restoring it back to its original state. It would be a matter of allowing the river to flow freely as it naturally has for eons. This would allow a new, balanced ecosystem to emerge. One that is in more of a state of stasis than the current one (the dam and lake). It’s also a matter of allowing the springs to flow at the surface which would open up light and clarity which fosters much more diverse pockets of ecology to emerge.

This was already done once in Florida. The Kissimmee River Restoration Project of 1999. Look it up, it is a success. I would love to see the same for the beautiful Ocklawaha.

Hopefully they will remove the dam.

I totally agree. With Cannon being this beautiful with the long term flood damage, imagine how amazing it would become if left to heal. Hope you'll share these videos to encourage people to appreciate and respect these important natural ecosystems. Thanks!
