Elizabeth (Elisabeth Shue) finds Charlie hiding and he pushes her out the window.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A newly single father discovers his daughter is caught up in a web of evil in this thriller. David Callaway (Robert De Niro) has been left to raise his nine-year-old daughter, Emily (Dakota Fanning), on his own after the unexpected death of his wife. David is at first amused to discover that Emily has created an imaginary friend named "Charlie," but it isn't long before "Charlie" develops a sinister and violent side, and as David struggles with his daughter's growing emotional problems, he comes to the frightening realization that "Charlie" isn't just a figment of Emily's imagination. Hide and Seek also stars Famke Janssen, Dylan Baker, and Amy Irving.

Great movie. Research has shown me that this little girl is the most famous child actor ever and she's worked with tons of top A list actors and directors. She is very good. She started by acting around the house playing with her little sister. She makes it look easy. She's so convincing!

It's very strange and frightening to watch your own father be two different people. I know she's a child and doesn't fully understand what a Personality Disorder is, but it would've been interesting to see the psychologist explain to her why her father was that way.

Yeah I think she should have least said something when David asked who is this. It would have actually helped then I'm sure he would have kept her away from him for her own safety. If I was in a situation like this in real life I would have said that is you you need help.

SPOILER > > > Charlie is David's murderous alter ego so I don't understand why Emily kept saying that Charlie is funny.... maybe there wasn't any clear-cut distinction between David's two personalities until David finally realizes the truth about himself and admits that Charlie has now fully taken control over his fatherly identity

She loved "Charlie" until he wasn't fun anymore. His alter ego was mostly harmless at first. He did kill a butterfly pretty early, and then escalated into killing the cat before totally losing control & killing people. It all happened because of his wife cheating on him, and something snapped in his brain. His wife was actually the first victim, but Emily doesn't realize it until later.

emily itself had 2 personalities at the begining, it has been trigerred by the death of mom. lets called the 2nd emily "lidya". the different: - emily is a children. hates dark so he loves sleep with door opened. loves doll so much. face look pale, sad, and have no passion. clearly the real emily cannot forget the tragedy. - lidya : teenager, hates doll, sadistic (her drawing show that), hyperactive, loves sleep with door closed, loves adult, loves make up and dresses like teenager (when father and elizabeth have lunch), doesnt give a f**k about what she said. you know what i mean. ah... teenager.

Each time Charlie appears in the movie (before David finds out that, in fact, he suffers from double personality disorder), there is always a scene showing David in his room... he is listening to his stereo and writing his journal about Emily's behavior. Later on we find out that these scenes don't exist. So, if I remember correctly, when Emily goes downstairs, Charlie turns off the lights (this action is replaced by a scene in which David is upstairs in his room listening to music or taking notes about his daughter). When David grasps his real identity, the mystery is finally unravelled: the act of writing his journal while listening to his stereo was not real

I just finished watching this movie,and it's now 1:42 AM. Yup, watched it at night, late. It definitely scared me. Creeped me out. Made me feel sad too. Dakota was so adorable when she was younger. And I love the father and daughter relationship that she and Robert had. They're both great actors. Same with everyone else in the movie. But those two as Emily and David stole the movie to me.

What puzzles me about this movie is Robert De Niro's character, like I get that he killed Emily's mom but why would he act like he didn't know who Charlie is only to reveal towards the end of the movie that he himself was Charlie? It just kind of throw's me off because at the beginning of the movie he acted all nice and fatherly but how was he able to throw off suspicion from Emily that he was really a sick twisted person. I just don't get how Emily couldn't see that.

I understand what you're saying. In the scene where they are in the water, I read somewhere that he was still Charlie when he said "No, it's David." 'Charlie' had complete control of his brain & was acting like David in that part. I always though he just went back & fourth between the two.

How could she have known that her husband was gonna turn into a psychopath and murder her in her sleep? He could have confronted her about her gross behavior and divorced her like a normal human being but instead he killed her. Not really the mom's fault if you ask me

Does anyone think this is the origin story of Charlie Charlie? Omg I watched this move with my dad and my brother, and I told them try not to fall asleep! But my dad fell asleep EXEPT my brother. And I got to scared and my mom told me not to watch it! And this was at 11:00 through like 1:00 in the morning i think. And I wanted to change it but my brother didn’t want me to change it and i started to cry because this was near the end of the movie
