You know what is hilarious.. I thought of this because my dad bought me crocks and they were way to big when I was younger, so I slipped some wadded up bags in the toes 😂😂
@@Bruce_Wilson your doing a beautiful job to the cabover Mr Wilson keep up the good work bro..!! Remind's of Optimus Prime from the transformers 1987 cartoon Generation #1 Cabover body style..!! Autobot That will be so 😎 cool
@@Bruce_Wilson yeah Mr Wilson it will be so cool bro it your going have the cabover wrapped i would go with the Optimus Prime transformers Wrapped theme Generation #1 Cartoon perfect for that type of cabover you have.!! With the Autobot logo's & your company name on the doors ...!! If you watched the bubblebee move you get an idea what I'm talking about at the end of the movie you see Optimus Prime Rolling out on the san Francisco Bridge..!!
Hey mate I think you should stop listening to morons telling you what to do, 99% of these clowns have either never owned, driven or fix a truck, in the end its a work horse not a show pony, keep up the work old mate and when its finished, enjoy your work. Retired Aussie truckie.
The main reason for a fuel cap on both sides is it is a lot faster then waiting for one nozel to fill two tanks. Especially at a busy truck stop with a line of truck waiting behind you. Use both whenever available. Thanks for the video's. They are fun to watch.
The air dryer looks good where it is and your solution to the blow-off port should work fine. However it is usually best to put them low as possible on the frame simply because gravity is going to leave water in the line coming from the compressor. It probably won't be enough to worry about though. Start from the turbo and move back when you are assembling your exhaust. Then there's no way to mess up the location of your elbows and drilling your holes where they don't need to be. It sounds like common sense but just to throw it out there and possibly help is the focal point. It's really coming along nicely... Would be cool to see it some day. Keep up with the good content!
I agree with the air dryer being kept low. They are usually factory mounted on the frame. I had one mounted under the catwalk one time that exploded with enough force that it blew the catwalk off. Weird but it really happened.
Bruce I’ve really enjoyed this series... the first video is my favorite on RU-vid ever. However, I do want to say that it started off really strong and while it’s still good content, the editing of the videos has gotten lazy... longer videos doesn’t mean better. Watch some other big time content creators to get ideas on editing. Lastly, dude... stop berating you’re followers. Making MONEY is the name of the game. You can do these videos without mocking the people critiquing your work. It turns people away and that costs you money! Keep up the great work!
Randy Hurst I like what you said but you got to remember Bruce was a smaller RU-vidr till this truck build went viral for him and he seems to be struggling with all the hate comments with all the newer subs, shit talking in the comments about his work prob why he’s got the attitude like he has . I’m sure he get berated all times of the day by every idiot who thinks they know everything. And personally I could care less about the editing and more about the length of videos I like the longer content, little 10min videos don’t cut it for me.
Dam everyone got something to say if he wants truck nutz then he can have them he can mount the air dryer where he wants it's his truck if you dont like it dont watch it I applaud the man for taking the time to bring something vintage back to life
The thing with the air dryer is that it actually is better mounted as low as possible. I support comments like that, because they're actually constructive and could affect the functions and performance of the truck. Other than that though I agree with you. His truck, he can do what wants.
Love the build. I still want to see a six-by-six crew cab cabover with military tires. Are those really the u-bolts you're going to use to hold down the headache rack? Call st. Louis spring and have them make you a custom set to your size you need and want. You'll have them in two days.
Air dryer looks well lush where you've mounted it. If I were you, I'd put the rubber strap protectors back under the tank straps. Gonna look a hell of a lot better and won't cut through the tank end cap's. All the best Mate.
Right choice to mount the air dryer on the rack. The tank cover on the dented tank, fill the void space with spray foam so it does not look so wrinkled up. Keep it going Bruce!
Some great stuff foam would work great for that fuel tank that's dented. You could spray it on let it dry and shape it to match the other side then cover it with the cover!
Your truck your money your blood sweat and frustrations. Go about it with what suits you! You have my support keep it up Ol mate it's looking the goods😎😎👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺
Bruce, I absolutely love what you're doing. I was an owner-operator for over 40 years as well as an ASC master certified mechanic. My first truck was a K 100 Kenworth with a Big Cam III 350 fuel squeezer. One question for you have you thought about dual-snorkel air intakes this would fix your problem with the location of the air filter as well as look badass. Also, do you have a Patron page?
Bruh I can’t wait to see it with the stacks on it. Keep up the good work dude. You have saved a piece of transportation history! Oh and screw all the keyboard pirates. Buy your own dang truck.
Love the content brother!! Been here since the first time Clettus had his Cummins at ur shop. Please take care of yourself brother we are all pulling for you!
Personally would have took the tanks off for polishing and before said happens cut the tank and beat out the damage then weld back cheaper than buying a new 100gallon. Awesome build progress cant wait to see the interior in Indianapolis!
Bruce how about a little expanding foam to fill out the dent under the condom, or just shape up some polystyrene to mimic the tank. Truck is looking good mate, good job boys. 😀
You’re too worried about negative comments that you’re talking down to them. Just post the videos, they are excellent and enjoyable to watch without the negativity. I’ve subscribed and I’ve watched nearly all of them on this cab over. Excellent videos. Just no more beating up the viewers.
1: It's your truck, Do it up your way. 2: Hang the nutz nearer to the rear end 'pumpkin'. 3: Truck name: If it was Texas County Mountie tan, then i could see the name Beaufford, but with an American Flag Freedom wrap, I would choose something like "Free Spirit" 4: Possibly consider changing the cab jack to an electric pneumatic system and save yourself the pumping it up and down. 5: love the videos and the job you are accomplishing on this old truck!
Bruce, Bro you're doing a KNOCKOUT JOB on your Truck! I am tuned in every time you post...Congratulations on your baby coming! I know you have a lot of stress going on in your life right now, But you're handling it like the man you are...If people are gonna be negative, Don't worry about that...THIS IS YOUR TRUCK! All I am seeing is the awesome job you're doing on the her...I love your channel...Bro YOU ROCK!!!👍👍😎💯💯💯
I think that your off to a good start. The truck will always be a work in progress and that is a good thing as it will show your pride in your creation. People expect everyone to be perfect their first time and they need to cut you some slack as I am sure your gears are spinning in your head all the time. In my opinion, you picked a hard truck, and have taken it on. Kudos to you and keep up the good work!
The air compressor has oil for lubrication, older trucks will push a little due to age. The air dryer is designed to purge anything other than air out of the system.
Should have fixed the tank. The hell with those covers. Moisture will get behind those covers, and they're going to get dirty and try to clean those. But that's just my opinion. And you definitely have to leave rubber gaskets under those straps.
Love this series Bruce. I do think that the rear tank cover destroys the streamlined chrome look though. You go bro! Best wishes from cold and snowy Canada.
I work on Fire Engines and trucks and in those applications there is very limited amounts of room for the air dryer. The air dryer is usually mounted on the frame on the inside. From what I can see you can mount the air dryer to the frame on the inside just in front of the fifth wheel. As far as tubing on the bottom that won't benefit you any, that hole on the bottom is where the air purges when it reaches pressure. There won't be any water or anything coming out of it. The black dome piece is the actual filter cartridge that dries the air as the compressor pressurizes the tanks. So when mounting it you can hide them anywhere just make sure it's accessible when you need to replace that cartridge.
You probably should put the fuel tank cover over the front of the tank by the steers where you get more rocks flying up and hitting the tank they are protected in the back by the quarter fenders and with your dual exhaust run a single pipe from the exhaust side of the turbo to the headache rack and mount the t for the exhaust to the rack and run your dual stacks from there the reason the air dryer is mounted under the cab close to the exhaust is so it dont freeze up in the winter if you mount it on the rack with a drain hose you run the risk of the hose freezing up or the valve on the dryer freezing stuck open plus the underside of the truck gonna be covered in oil anyway from blow by coming from the crankcase ventilation
@@Moii89 I did miss it, thanks for calling it out hahah, anyways so pupmped to see the finished project I actually cannot wait to see the interior work
I'm gonna laugh when the cab comes down and hits it. May not but I was thinking that the whole time. Plus the tacky looking airlines running up to it and the air filter that may not slide out.
It was traditional for cab overs to have covers on the front of the tanks also to protect them from the steer tire debris. Looks like it is coming to very well one step at a time.
When the truck gets closer to being done could you make a video like saying how much you bought the truck for and how much you put into. I know it’s not my business but just curious how much it cost to basically restore a cab over. Thanks
As a truck owner and someone who is restoring my own truck, maybe I can help. Tires like his range from 2900$ for all 10 if they are made in china junk. 6500$ for all 10 if they are top tiers like biridgetstone or good years. That paint was probably close to 800 if not 1000$ in materials. To paint a full semi truck costs about 4-10k depending on quality and if it’s a single (shines like a prison mirror made of cheap metal) stage or 3 stage (shine like a new car). That means sanding or using paint stripper down to the metal and starting from fresh metal. That engine is not much to rebuild. Less then 4000$ in parts and maybe 40 hours of labor for a full rebuild. U will need injectors, head, exhaust manifold and turbo. Then....... deep breath! .... u have the ac system all new parts are about 1000$ then install and charge. ....radiator and water pump about another 1500$ parts and labor. All hoses and piping on the engine about 500$ All new brake pads, drums, s cams, slack adjusters, wheel seals, bearings will run about 4500$ in parts and labor at a reasonable shop. That frame paint is 50$ in paint and a lot of sanding. Then u have suspension springs shocks bushings, steering box and components, (2500-3500) electrical wire harnesses for the engine (250) , body, and interior. Let’s not forget the whole mouse nest usually waiting inside these old truck cabs. Seats 600-100 each, door panels custom work, flooring, and while your there replace all the wires for the stereo and throw in some new speakers. But wait ! We not done yet. 😂 You have a whole transmission (2500-4000) drive line system with yolks another 2,000. Rear end differentials with power divider and compensator to distribute power to needed wheels. Those rear diffs alone are about 3000-4500 depending on gears and what all gets done inside of them. In other words these builds cost a lot to do right. If not u will look real stupid on the side of the road with a shinny truck.
Don't worry too much about people saying about how small the bits you are doing, just remember small steps forward are still steps forward, keep up the good work from New Zealand
Ohhh man, been watching your vids since day one, i dont know why I'm so in to your works. Lol.. All the way from Philippines here. Kudos.. Waiting for next video bruce👍👌👌
You still need to fill both tanks. If you only fill one then you would have two half tanks. The purpose of that system is to keep you from having to switch tanks when one is empty. They will both empty out evenly.
Love all your videos .. relax I like your cab over it is looking good but it's going to be a sweet working truck ..all the dents and dings just give her a personality love the truck nuts ..I hope your new house and move go well ...
You might think about putting a sheet of something like diamond plate, plexiglass, or Teflon just under your chain binder rack. This will protect your headache rack from swinging and banging chains. If it gets nasty looking you can change it out and still have a clean looking headache rack.
You can fill one tank with fuel, it will take around 30 min or so to transfer over to other side. You be better off to fill both tanks at a time. You should have put air dryer in front of tanks. Just my opinion. That were mine was when I drove one like that, years ago lol
I can't believe how well the truck is turning out from what it looked like when you got it big transformation, I'm loving the videos even if its 3am in the UK sometime when the videos come out, keep up the good work Bro 😀👍
A suggestion that might work well for he big tanks and that is to drain the heavy oil (diesel fuel) from the tank, remove the tank and weld the components to use a dent puller, might make the tank look much better and will still be cheaper than buying a new tank. If it makes sense.
I was think’n the same thing, if that headache rack really did have to do what it was intended to do it would/will fail. Useless the way it’s now installed.
Iv been working on trucks about 7 years so I dont know everything but I did go to welding school and I know metal. You dont want to mount that air dryer on the headache rack. Between the dry weight of it then getting full of water and crap it's going to be too heavy for that aluminum and is going to crack it and woller the holes out. Just my suggestion it's your truck. Love the videos btw I'm excited to see it when it's done.
You still need to fill both tanks if you wanna fill it up.the person that owned it probably ran a short haul all the time and never had to run a full tank so he probably just filled one wich,if he was empty would after a few hours would drain to the other tank.and he ran a half a tank all the time.you don’t know a lot about trucks for some one trying to rebuild one wich you will probably need to in frame that motor if it has close to a million miles on it. Keep plugging along 👍from someone who has owned several and been driving 34 years......
