Mel Brooks' renowned spoof of the most famous Hitchcockian classics-"Vertigo," "The Birds," "Psycho" and "Spellbound"-is one of his most outrageous comedy classics. After a Harvard psychiatrist (Brooks) takes over the Psycho-Neurotic Institute for the Very, Very Nervous, he realizes his predecessor died under suspicious circumstances. When events take a murderous turn, he is accused of the crime and left with a full blown case of High Anxiety. Madeline Kahn, Harvey Korman and Cloris Leachman co-star in this hilarious parody.

My favorite Mel Brooks movie, so many laughs. Harvey and Cloris are hilarious!

I have to say, this film does tap into the human psyche really well. The sets and the clothes from the '70s are super nostalgic for me too. This is the kind of movie that stays with you afterwards and comes to mind now and then when triggered by other people as you go through life. It's like, "oh wow, she reminds me of Nurse Diesel in High Anxiety."

Who else but Mel Brooks could parody a dozen Hitchcock films? I recognized: Vertigo, North by Northwest, The Birds, Frenzy, Dial M for Murder, Psycho, and Spellbound.

I ran across this on some movie channel or another while I was at my parents' house recuperating from sugery. I came in toward the end, and when I saw the cast list, I had to see if it was going to be on again. When found out it was going to be repeated that Friday, I recorded it so I could see it from the beginning. Well, that turned out to be a mistake. This is because I started laughing (especially at the pigeon scene), and I wound up in pain, because it was abdominal surgery I had.

This came out when I was just 10. I sort of knew who Hitchcock was but I hadn’t seen any of his films. Still I absolutely loved this movie. When I got older and realized it was an homage it was like finding money in an old jacket.

I saw this on TV for the first time ever last year along with another flick Mr. Brooks did for Fox, Silent Movie. Some of this is pretty hysterical and that song he does is really good.

what a film, the bit when Harvey Korman is 30 seconds late and didnt get 'fruit cup' is the funniest bit of the film in my opinion

+Liam Redmond dude, I have thought that scene was the funniest in this movie or any movie, for 20 years. You are the only other person I have been made aware of, that recognizes how absurd and hilarious it is. Harvey Corman was at his absolute, comic-villain-best with his werewolf fangs and shooting the poor patient in the neck with the rubber band and paper clip, behind everyone's back. Awesome. He made that scene but it was perfected by the guy who played accompanying straight man, the tormented patient. He was so good and understated and at first, appears the archetype of average and normal. His growing anxiety and then total fear, after Corman gas-lights him with his tricks, is just right. Good stuff!

In this film… some of the ‘outtakes’ were just as funny. My favorite…the movie showed Mel and Harvey walking down a hallway…on the outtake… they were skipping down the hallway. U have to see it to appreciate it, but LOL beyond words.

My late Dad worked at a bar for a short time, and the part of his job he HATED the most was the women getting so drunk that they'd start squalling and screaming. I showed this trailer to him once and the hysterical woman at 2:04 brought back memories he didn't want.

God, hard to believe, this movie is 43 years old! I read that Mel invited Hitchcock over to Fox to see the movie before it came out. He said Hitch was literally rolling on the floor with laughter. The next day, Mel said he arrived at work and there was a magnum of Champagne from Hitchock.

In my opinion, Mel Brooks never came up with anything as good or funny after this. I like his early films mostly (High Anxiety included) but his 80s and 90s work? One would have to be pretty desperate to like every one of his later movies.
