Yep, I can put small holes in the walls to hang things (most apartments allow this, simple to patch up). But I didn't think putting holes in the ceiling was a great idea though I never asked if I could. I just decided to find a way around it.

Nice job Nick! Really like the fact you built your own app. I cringed for a minute when I saw the box of remotes without a single do-it-all remote but the app makes great sense! I helped a buddy install a full setup of Axiom speakers in his house and he loves them. Nice work Nick and nice job Youthman. Love the diversity we are seeing with this tour.

Well Nick, as a Canadian, I have to first love your choice of Axiom speakers! - Good choice. Secondly, I also love the "portability" of your system. Even in my own house, I consider the day I will eventually have to move. So, building boxes as opposed to cutting holes into the ceiling for Atmos speakers was important to me.

Axiom builds some insanely great surround speakers, I have a flock of QS10’s. The QS8 is also good. The thing that makes them stand out, IMO, is how they are similarly good for both film and music surround, like concert recordings or the quad recordings such as the Chicago box set etc.

Well done. To get the most out of the space you have to work with. Ever thought about a "false" frontwall like 50 cm out, and place your speakers behind a BIG AT screen? Nice to get the centerchannel in center of picture. Especially if you sit close. No weight if you cover the frame with black cloth.
@nicko880
@nicko880 2 года назад
I have though about it. I am satisfied by the sound without the AT screen at least. I have made my screen as large as possible (limited by the projector's throw distance). Moving the screen forward would result in a smaller picture (though it would also move closer to the seating). But I also have a love seat more to the side that gets used a lot, and the view angle would also get sharper if the screen moved forward mode. Also going with an AT screen right up against the speakers means an AT weave as opposed to microperf (which needs some room between the driver and material), and that means < 1.0 gain (all AT weaves measure less than 1.0 gain in real tests), while I am at 1.1 gain solid vinyl screen now, so a more than 10% loss in brightness there too. Definitely some compromises to make to do that and probably not worth the cost and effort to do it for this setup.

@Youthman
@Youthman 2 года назад
I would love that as well. I just have to be incredibly careful due to copyright. The last time I showed an eight second clip on a projection screen, I received a channel strike from the copyright owner. If I receive three channel strikes, they pull my entire RU-vid channel. And since this is my full-time income, I cannot afford that risk for a demo
@jonathancastor7563
@jonathancastor7563 2 года назад
Youthman I just want to remind one detail to everybody presenting their installation : "please stop putting objects or any other devices on top of the amplifier !!! For god's sake !!! You're killing the amplifier when you block the ventilation system. It's like you want to have big performances with hot air , try to exercise in a room with no ventilation and see what happens to you , you won't last 10 minutes. Plus some amplifiers don't even have a fan inside to cool it down. We could show the best material or installation, but if we don't respect this basic thing ,how can we expect children to respect what we sweat for
@nicko880
@nicko880 2 года назад

For the people that live in apartments. Do you get noise complaints from neighbors with the bass?
@Youthman
@Youthman 2 года назад
It depends on how you have your system set up. By combining a smaller sub, in a near field position and they shakers, Nic has found a way not to disturb his neighbors but still get a great home theater experience
@nicko880
@nicko880 2 года назад
I would say the most important factor is location of the room as far as shared walls or floor/ceiling. After that is building construction, like are the shared walls double walls or concrete? Finally, it's mainly LFE that passes through walls, so if you keep it to a reasonable level then you can definitely get away with no complaints. Some form of tactile LFE like bass shakers is practically a necessity in an apartment in my opinion. The illusion that create of more bass cannot be understated.

Amazing!!! Very creative solutions to get around the constraints of the environment. I want to hear what his landlord has to say about it 😉

Nope, not in the several years I have been here and hundreds of movies. Good room position in the building and wall and ceiling construction and reasonable LFE volume level
