I kinda hate how this show could be compared to fan-animations.. The fan-animations improved, while the studios (outside of Ghibli and Aardman) are failing flat.
I agree. The abridged gave the characters so much more detail. I for one, will always remember Aloe and Anise as Lyngarth's resident drug cooks as opposed to just the people who hosted Rosemary and Sage in the original. Speaking of Rosemary, I can't imagine her without the Gluttony Demon now, wanting to eat absolutely everything. And Sage having a mother that has accumulated a sizable body count of New Magic users, where not even her own daughters are safe feels much more engaging than just Sage mentioning how her mother hates New Magic like what happened in the original.
High guardian spice. The fever dream that we'll remember no matter how hard we try not too. Happy spice day! To Snapdragon, Amaryllis, Parnelle, Zinnia and Slime boy ONLY!
2 years later, and I still enjoy breaking down and trying to rebuild this show... I think HGS Brain Rot is real, and it has infected me. I am fine with this.
He didn't even need to make an in depth video this time lmao Crazy that this show is already 2 years old, I still remember the controversy when it released
In two years, the feelings that were fresh at the time had cooled down and I wondered if I had been too hard on the show. But then I saw an old comment of mine and I realised that, no, my feelings were genuine and my criticisms were well founded. This show wasn't just bad, it was insulting. The fact that Snapdragon is pushed towards being trans because they can't man properly. The fact that only the female villains are redeemed while the male antagonists are treated as irredeemable. Everything that comes out of Sage's mouth. If anything, the feelings have become ingrained because this gender essentialisation is the flaw that continues to persist in other shows. High Guardian Spice, though the best example of the problem, has become part of a greater problem within modern media.
Technically, the teaser trailer was released back in 2018, but the reception to it was so negative, the production of the show itself was very troubled, the world itself went through a pandemic and Crunchyroll got bought by Sony in the meantime, that HGS was released with little fanfare. I think the show feels older due to the first teaser
OOOO Boy, Spice Day! That magical time of the year when the voices in my head get louder and I am ever reminded of the unhinged nightmare that was this show. At least the fanfiction and abridged series is good.
I feel like it'll be relevant as a show of everything not to do with an animated series. If anything, HGS's...everything serves a good lesson to remember. For all the wrong reasons! 1. How NOT to do a trailer 2. How NOT to promote your show 3. How NOT to get a good platform 4. How NOT to write a good story 5. How NOT to invest people into your story 6. How NOT to write dialogue 7. How NOT to animate 8. How NOT to understand your strengths and weaknesses and skills as a studio 9. How NOT to do representation 10. How NOT to write a setting 11. How NOT to do good character design 12. How NOT to voice act 13. How NOT to do audio mixing (good fucking grief how did they screw THIS up?!) 14. How NOT to do consistency and backgrounds ......honestly there was so much wrong with all of this, its fascinating to study and learn from.
Honestly it is nice to have a show that keeps giving us everything we don't want; it's like a Christmas gift you'll never like but realize you're stuck with it.
Since the Christmas time passedI would like to raise a question - if Guardian Spice had Winter/Christmas themed episode how would they make it? What would be the same and what would be different? And finally, what would they NOT use magic for? For the last thing I say: Snow shovelling, we would see at least one magic using person struggle with snow.
Okay, confession time. Before finding your channel I heard about the show but had no intention of ever seeing it but after watching your videos I said why not and warched the whole season. I actually liked it, don't get me wrong the production, writing, etc. is not good by any means. But if you enjoy the average slice of life trash series and can look past the flaws it's actually enjoyable.
They should've have known that Rosemary being dumb wouldn't work.. She doesn't have the design and personnality for that. Even Luffy can be a kind of Einstein when needed.
what i notice so far (without watchng the show): -rosemary looks almost like (if not just the same) as minky momo -sage's halloween costume looks suspiciously similar to a certain magical girl who ascended into devilhood just want to comment on that cause the design looks odd in comparison to the rest of the designs
Wait a minute.. Minky Momo as in "Gigi"?? The show was known for strange evenements, like the couple of humans accepting Gigi as their daughter.. 😂 The father's reaction achieved me! "Since when i have a daughter?, bah, it's without importance".
@@pablocasas5906well, now mulling over it again, the colour code for each character suspiciously correspond with the holy quintent characters: 1. madoka - rosemary 2. sayaka - sage 3. mami - parsley 4. kyoko - thyme and homura for amarylis ofc just an afterthought that i found interesting
@@violetsnowfield wow, it never crossed my mind that perhaps Raye directly based the main characters of HGS on the ones from Madoka Magica I remember reading a interview Raye gave after HGS first teaser and another one made after the show was released, and he mentioned that he grew up watching plenty of anime, he mentioned Magic Knight Rayearth as one of his main inspiration, and I can see some superficial similarities between Rosemary and Hikaru. He also mentioned enjoying Ranma ½, but then admitted the show hasn't aged well and that now is kind of problematic. The whole interview was focused mainly of how diverse HGS was compared to other cartoons and anime, and I mean, I have nothing against that, but they barely discussed the characters personalities, aside from some superficial elements. I don't want to criticize Raye too hard, but it feels like he and his team weren't talented enough to tell an engaging story
I didn't know Thyme could fly. What do you mean he was referring to Time as in the intangible concept that dictates the when and events that fit into that when, in order to create things like motion, cause and effect?
Knowing Karen Strassman and Wendee Lee where in this show especially makes me sick to my stomach…..(Wendee’s incident was recent but that’s beside the point)
@@ARStudios2000 Karen is Anti BLM/Anti Autistic and supports trump (I.e. she’s extremely bigoted) and Wendee harassed several co VA’s after she was recasted on Bleach.
It's crazy how you spent 2 years so thoroughly bashing something that is middle of the road at worst. Do you, like, have lives? I don't even like the series and I share some of your gripes with it but at this point it feels unnecessary.
