This is from a time in the band's history where the parallels with Pink Floyd when they wrote that song were pretty strong. Easily one of the best covers ever, possibly for that reason.

Marko sang this while Tarja was backstage changing her outfit. Has a much darker feel than Pink Floyd. Another great one is The Islander from Tampere. How many people can say that they have Floor Jansen as their backup singer. Thought you would like this one😆😆😆 Every Nightwish song is better than the last...doesn't matter what order you play them in🤣🤣

YESSSSS! Dude! Onya cobber!.... They called it a tribute rather than a cover... Aced it!.... Nightwish are "spacey" too - they make fourteen minute (and longer!) songs seem like three minutes or less AND take you to another place..... They are TimeLords!..... Terri Nunn (of the band Berlin) had David Gilmour hear this (he had already done the solo on "Pink and Velvet" for her several years earlier).... and he liked it!.... Music and Metal IS family!...... I knew Emppu's solos would get you and you didn't even hear it all before "WHAT THE HELL!?".... Now you know why my old friend, a life-long Pink Floyd fan from Syd Barret days, became a Nightwish fan after hearing this!!! Kiitos!

Facts and fun facts Tarja was the vocalist, she wasn't aware it would be her last gig, during High hopes she was changing her costume. Jukka was holding his head because of migraine bought on by insomnia bought on by depression, he would eventually stop apart from the occasional guest spot, playing. The bells on Toumas's finger nails and the Jack Sparrow doll on the keyboard. Notice the subtle homage to pink Floyd, the circle above Jukka.

When you liked this so much, perhaps his soloalbum Marko Hietala: Pyre of the Black Heart could be something for you. Stones or The Voice of my Father! Stay save, too!

In Marko's biography he tells how some of his vocal cords were permanently damaged after having a polyp removed. He lost his falsetto, couldn't sing for a long time, and had to work hard to get the rest of his vocal range back. This was before joining Nightwish. You wouldn't know from hearing him sing like this.

Somewhere between an interpretation and a little bit of a memory: I remember this song dropping on the "Highest Hopes" compilation album in September 2005 and it feels almost prophetic because less than a month later we've all been witnesses to the falling out between the guys and Tarja. And as far as group splits go, this one felt very personal and to me almost uncomfortable to observe; the level of intimacy involved made me feel like a voyeur, like the stuff both sides said in their open letters should have been kept private, not aired in front of the then-budding internet fan community. There is so much bitterness to this song, and it's so mournful for something that has passed and will never be again. Marko's vocals are perfectly balanced between soft and powerful, angry and saddened. I still find it incredibly fitting that "High Hopes" was the last track on the last album they've produced with Tarja involved. Anyway, sorry for the fandom grandma moment! Great reaction, I'm really glad I've stumbled across your channel and I can't wait to see what you're going to react to next :)

For me, nightwish is composed of two main singers, if you think about 70% of the songs on nightwish have them both as protagonists,.. Marco does an incredible job of harmonies and needs the same power as FLoor not to be left behind, and the extraordinary thing is that he has it .. It's crazy that so many talents congregate together in one band

Yeah, respects to the original song, and to the different take of it. I love covers, I'm subscribed to many singers who do mostly (symphonic) metal covers. It's so nice to hear other people do different takes of the songs you like, I don't think it's anything away from the original performer. Yeah the sound of the keyboard is really nice, love the harsh rock attitude, Marco's moaning vocals I always enjoy: this is my fav of his NW songs. Ace job from the whole team.

After all, Marko is Nightwish also..... When I finally watched this video about 6 months ago the first thing I said to myself was this absolutely embodies the talent that this band really has and eventually you will watch a documentary called learn the setlist in 48 hours I think I've seen it about 20 times already LOL and in that documentary to Amos says that everyone is replaceable in the band even himself and no matter what the band will just keep going on it's like a machine....... The whole is always greater than the sum of its parts......... Just think about this also this performance is just amazing and there is no floor no taria knowing that and no Troy on stage ......... I now rest my case.

Hey Odin, Loved your reaction! You HAVE to do a reaction video to The Phantom Of The Opera from the same concert (End Of An Era). Marco's voice is every bit as good as Tarja's operatic voice in that song, and the two together is absolute bliss to listen to.

This is so awesome performance that difficult to think that it is a cover. All the credit to Pink Floyd...but I like this the best. By the way many people think that Marco is the greatest singer of NW and still the female singes from Tarja to Floor are awesome. I personally feel that these four guys are in the comfort zone when doing this only by them.

Yeah I love Pink Floyd, but NW and Marko does this better. So between the two, this is the best version. As for Nightwish, this is up there among my favorites, along with “The Islander” the greatest show on earth, and the phantom of the opera, the one with Tarja, and last ride of the day. I love all of Nightwish’s work though.
