Watch for helpful tips on replacing the High Pressure Oil Pump on your F-250 with a 7.3L Powerstroke engine
Level of difficulty: Expert
Approximate time: 4 Hours
Tools needed: 3/8" FT LB Torque Wrench and Breaker Bar. High Pressure Oil Line Removal Tool.
Additional tools: 3/8" 10mm,12mm,15mm socket and 3/8" Ratchet. 1/2" 24mm and 18mm Socket.
15mm and 17mm wrench.
Phillips head and flat head screwdriver. 3" and 6" 3/8" extension. Pliers. 1/4" 8mm, 10mm socket and 1/4" Ratchet. 3" and 6" 1/4" extension. Oil Filter Wrench.
Installation Notes: 96 FT LB Torque on Front Bolt connecting oil pump to gear.

2 13mm bolts in front of oil reservoir discount all fuel lines and out it goes

That is not a oil pressure sensor. That is the pressure regulator

I have to tackle this job myself. I have seen it where guys haven’t removed the fuel bowl. I think they’re doing it mainly to have more room to work. I rather no deal with all that bs myself of dealing with fuel lines on top of oil. Idk maybe will be different once I get into it but I can confirm it will come out the way you said haha

I think i have this issue but not sure. Its either the hpop or the orange plenum boots the tie the intake spyder to the heads i have oil all over the valley and also all over the orange boots

Have a question for you that is irrelevant to the video I do appreciate the video more I learn the more I like it LOL the question is I have an 02 F-350 with a 7.3 their heads were bad on it they were cracked in several places the original heads did not have a fuel return the donor heads which came out of a 96 or 97 7.3 had a fuel return so I just plugged the fuel return with a plug. It runs okay but it just really doesn't have their performance that it should so I don't know if I need to build a fuel return or not just looking for some advice thank you

high pressure oil pumps dont require timing, mechanical fuel injection pumps such as IH idi's or 12v cummins require timing.

Can you please explain what function the cover serves as shown i n your video at time marker 7:02 please? The reason I ask is because my pump is leaking and I went in to took at the pump and saw that cover is missing and I found a strange nut lying on the block whick looks itentical to the one on the bent, extended arm on that cover. Thanks

He doesn't talk about filling or draining the reservoir. Need to fill it before starting or it takes forever to fill up off the engine oil pump.

look for DieselTechRon he has a video "'Ford 7.3 powerstroke diesel High pressure pump H-pop" that shows it as well as the torque specs.

@marytighe2447 I was able to get it done :) it was the pulley portion right in front of the alternator. I was able to get the HPOP bolt off (after some difficulty) by myself, but to put bolt back on to proper torque level, a set of helping hands was required to prevent the engine from turning.

@nicksharp6950 lol, the harmonic balancer! I was having trouble getting the HPOP bolt off cause the engine kept turning over on me and I didn't know where to apply pressure to prevent it from doing so.

Can you help with the best way to prime the HPOP. I changed out HPOP and it won't start because of prime. The reservoir-is it empty or not has a supply?

top it off from the top right plug. watch the O ring when removing the plug.
