HIGH SPEED SYNC EXPLAINED - Start taking dramatic portraits anywhere!

How do you get shallow depth of field in broad daylight without overexposing your image? Using high speed-sync gives you the power as a photographer to create that shallow depth of field look while still maintaining an evenly exposed image.
I took my lovely model Haley out to Tempe Town Lake, just north of the Arizona State University campus to use my high speed-sync in the field.
I use this lighting technology a lot in my work

Why not read up on it? I learned how to photo in hi speed sync ( and just how cool it is!) way before I understood the technicalities of it.

Wish you had commented on the shutter speeds used for the shots. The most striking shot IMO was that of the model wearing black & back hat just after sunset. But I would think there would be no issue in using regular strobe, not HSS, because I could see the lights on the bridge - and that would mean SS of maybe 1/8 to 1/4 second.

You know what... Joe's skill is seeing beauty in that cityscape - at first look I would have probably gone meh... but it's is the photographers vision that takes the water, the ripples, the model, and bridges and puts it all together - thanks for opening my eyes to opportunity

@galabandachonda

Joel said he was shooting @ f/1.2 and since it's a HSS video he was probably in 4kish shutter speed, most new lights can sync upto 8k shutter speed, just my thoughts but I could be wrong.
@FrankNazario
@FrankNazario 4 года назад
he stoped doing that long time ago... he has courses that he sells now online where he goes into details of the BTS ... here he just "gives away" what he is looking for and what he is expecting at an end result... all online photographers that have established themselves as RU-vidrs are doing that... maybe the consequence is that they will loose subscribers...

what good are knowing the settings? You will never be in the same situation with the same lighting conditions. But his initial shot was done using the 50 1.2 @ 1.2. So you know the aperture. Looks a bit overcast so maybe for optimal quality he was at 100 ISO. Since he did mention HSS, shutter speed must be over 1/200 anyway.
