Our Scottish Highland cow gets an abscess drained… it’s not for the faint of heart. Featuring Dr. Jornigan from Foothills Large Animal Hospital in Nebo, NC.
Exactly! It’s all fun and games until the vet gets gored by a giant horn! Wouldn’t that stink? You go there to heal an abscess and you leave blind in the back of an ambulance.
Someone should be holding it. They are all standing there. Jeez. Maybe if he came in from the other side of her head it would have been easier for him. They could have held her face like it is but he be in the cows right instead of the left. But idk he's the vet lol
@@patrickbyrne5070 even if someone was holding the horn that thing is so strong, the most they'd do is use their hand to soften the blows when it hits him, I don't think anyone is strong enough to hold that big guy back
“Somebody needs to get that horn.” in the calmest voice I have ever heard anybody say that. Ok I’ve never heard anybody say that. But I bet it wouldn’t be that calm.
The only way to Heaven is to be born again by saying out loud "Jesus is Lord" and believing in ur heart that God rose Him from the dead then you must live for Him i suggest getting baptized, repenting(asking for forgiveness of your sins and making a radical turn from ur sin), fasting (doesnt have to be from food), evangelizing(spreading the Gospel), praying, and reading the Bible. God and Jesus love all of you hmu with any questions have a good day God bless✝️❤️❤️ good works dont get u to Heaven God's grace does John 3:16 Colossians 2:6 - [ ] Romans 10:9
those cows have a copper deficiency we had the same thing exactly what he's doing now you have to feed them lots of copper in their minerals and their water give them lots and they will get over it otherwise they will get sick and die
Sadly it was because of the lack of help he had in his assistants that could have gotten him killed. Vet's get knocked out all the time over not having reliable techs who become scared of a restrained cow or bull.
@@pamelamorris3148 the look on his face, I don't think he was real happy with whoever was holding her horn. He gave them the "freaking pay attention ya idiot" look 😆
Poor girl was scared. Well done by the vet. He was so calming and took care of business quickly for her. She's gotta feel better after that. Job well done by all.
Holy Cow! 😳 I would never be able to do this. Not because of the abscess, but because of the horns! He came close a few times. Very relaxed vet doing a superb job being cool and calm. Good job!
You do with the large animals, absolutely. They will kick, headbutt, run you over, you name it. Plus they are hundreds or thousands of pounds in weight and have very hard hooves.
Large animal vets have a very dangerous job and are highly overlooked for their talent and patience. Anyone can work on a small dog or a cat and keep composure when it's under anesthesia on a table. But it takes true talent and patience to work with a 2 thousand pound animal and assure they are comfortable and not in copious amounts of pain as they are being cared for.
I remember once in vet tech schooling I was taught how to give a cow some fluids into her mouth she was so strong she lifted me up and tossed me against the press several times. It's just part of the job, to stay calm, keeps them calm and getting the job done.
They gave him 2 injections but it's still painful and due to the anxiety built up in the bull not knowing why they're poking around, the sensitivity is at a high. I bet he feels a lot better once the pressure is released and it's over though.
@@johnjohns8166 Yes, I know. I live in the countryside not a towns person. My in laws have cattle and goats. We have land butting up to theirs. Can see them every day. But we also believe in not letting anything suffer.
Hi What a beautiful highland female. That vet did an excellent job. He was very patient, and spoke to her in a calm voice. Someone should have helped with those horns. He had good reflexes to dodge those horns. An abscess is never fun to treat. I bet the owner was not happy when all of the pus came out. She must have been in pain. He probably have her an antibiotic. Hope that she feels better soon🐄❤️
How about putting a tennis ball on that horn end. Better yet, fabricate a bigger one like a big hard foamy ball that would mush on there. I want credit for the million dollar idea. Interesting video!
The fact that you found this abscess with this animal I find amazing. Does the rancher get a chance to check out each animal weekly is this by chance?? I lived in a area where the steer wander all over the hills freely. I can’t imagine any injury of this type would ever be found.
I had an abscess this size years ago, 3 appointments with GP (long before it got that size) different antibiotic pills each visit, still telling me it wasn't an abscess. My partner took me to A&E at 11pm and I was in theatre within the hour, it was so bad, even after being packed, I was taken to theatre 3 days later for repeat surgery. Every so often I get them around the same area, if I get the antibiotic that works quickly it works, I've not required surgery since. The pain is absolutely excruciating. That Cow done amazingly well, as did the vet speaking quietly and making the treatment as quick as possible.
Poor baby. I am so glad that you took care of her. I have had many abscesses and they hurt so much. My heart was hurting for her. I hope she feels better soon 🙏😘😘
No idea why this popped onto my suggestions, but wow you were so good there mate. Quick and as painless as possible....great job! (I also thought “pancake batter” for the consistency)
As I am sitting here drinking a strawberry milkshake. (I started it before I clicked on it.) Very calm vet. Excellent job, sir. Did he watch the series "All Creatures Great and Small"? James Herriott and his trials and tribulations of being a country vet in the '30's and '40's.
Abscesses are the best! I could do that all day everyday!!! Not sure about the horns coming at me though. Can’t imagine how scary they are in person. This guy is a great teacher!
Let me tell u this vet has like the calmest demeanor ever. I love this type of stuff and animals. Also would love to be a vet but id have to hype myself up for these type of procedures cuz id see danger everywhere lol
You are amazing Dr. YOu did the same thing as the Dr. Pimple Popper and you even got the sac, or it would have come back. And you were sooo kind...Thank you...Hgus
I like how he was so comfortable with their teeth, I mean it's good to watch out for the horns too but nobody was even second-guessing if they would bite his arm right then and there! LOL 🤣
What a darling animal I love them such gorgeous faces, I have to believe that they administered pain relief as they seem very savvy and genuinely concerned for its welfare She definitely deserves a kiss on the nose
Someone asked more than once about a local anesthetic. Didn’t he give her two injections at the beginning? An abscess is difficult to anesthetize as it is, and she was scared and in pain.
My first thought when the pus came out was, CL. I’m surprised they didn’t take a sample for testing. If it was CL, they’re screwed because the pus wasn’t contained properly. Hope for the best I suppose.
Awwwww that poor baby feel so bad for it . He just don’t understand what’s going on I know it hurts ! Dang , he’s gonna hurt the vet with that horn couple of guys need to hold that !
I wonder if there is a better way of restraining/imobilizing the head for these large horned cattle when a procedure needs to be done to the head, face, or neck. I've seen other procedures done on these animals & it seems very difficult to restrain them.
I know accidents happens the first time being hot with horn but the second nope that’s someone’s life on the line. Safety for everyone is always the most important
I'm so glad to see someone take out as much as they can and adding numbing I've seen some where they just cut in and squeeze it out then leave it alone and not properly cleen it out
Mind if I ask why? I'm not too knowledge about cows, but knowledgeable about dogs and have my favorite breeds. I'm just curious about why you like this type of cow?
Oh my goodness wow i so glad there are people willing to go to school for a long time too train to do this great work! What did they do 100 yrs ago for this? God Bless You Guys & those cute cows
I had a case of sporotrichosis many years ago and all the junk backed-up in my elbow area. The doctor more or less did the same procedure. I can remember the smell and sight to this day. 🤢🤮
