30 July 2011 The annual games take place in Halkirk, Caithness, Scotland every year. 2011 games saw a huge crowd for these popular games with visitors and competitors form several countries. A grand gathering.

Wow, your amazing! I was born out west but my parents are from Nova Scotia and we have alomst full out Scottish roots on both side of the family, The Maxwells, and the MacNeils. I am so proud! I wish I could dance like that.. :)
Im half Scottish and i have to teach a style of dance and I'm so glad i chose this!! Makes me feel proud to be part Scottish. I love Scotland such a beautiful place.
I am a highland dancer myself and am only a beginner I have been highland dancing for 6 years and gone to 2 competitions. There points their control their EVERYTHING I love it!
I have used this video to illustrate the dance that I learned at a very early age in Ontario, Canada. I did not know until a couple of weeks ago that my great-great grandfather and his parents lived in Halkirk before he emigrated to Ontario. This is very, very special to me now. Shirley Henderson
My legs hurt just from watching this! I'm an Irish dancer myself, but Lord I wish Irish dancing costumes could be more traditional like these. You guys look classy and lovely, Irish dancers look more and more like an extra from My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding. I'm hoping for a traditionalist revolution...
Go away (preferably not Cornwall) and when you've grown up, then think of something useful to say. Now to the dancers. A great performance girls, and respect for all that dedication and practice.
I'm not Scottish (German) but I was always interested in different cultures. Especially the cultures of England, Ireland and Scotland. This dance looks kind of weird but it was also interesting to watch. It looks so easy but it's not!! I tried and failed miserably! 😂👌 They have my respect. I hope I'll be able travel and see all these countries someday. And I want a kilt!! Must have that 😆
this reminds me when I was in france with my pipe band and we had to play in a circle with the bass drummer in the middle, and half way through a score all of these highland dancers came on ( we didn't know about this) all at once and our bass drummer shat himself because he never saw them coming....
amazing how Irish dance and highland dance are so different even if they pretty much wear the same shoes and have to jump around a lot. I have never tried highland dancing but I am an Irish dancer
A lot of dancers wear dancing underwear which either matches (ie. the red one), or is darker than the kilt for that reason. The darker ones are generally less obvious. Its the same as say, the bottom part of a leotard in other dancing types. Yes you have to wear underwear to compete in the dancing. And yes, the same rule applies for men.
i agree with you :( i watch michael flatley's videos, and the costumes he sets his troupe of dancers are very garish and look nothing like traditional irish costumes....
