This scene resounds what Highlander was always about, the pain, the hardship, the joy, the sadness, happiness everything that life is all about and capturing that from the perspective of men/women who live forever with those burdens on there minds and hearts and that loss hurts no matter how many centuries you live. Yeah the movie wasn't the greatest but this moment did catch the soul of highlander.
This movie has it flaws for sure but, of all the sequels, this one easily feels the closest in spirit to the original. The first film’s writer Gregory Widen himself contributing to the story early on in the production may have helped. It's more character driven rather than resorting to gimmicks like aliens or sorcerers and expands upon the themes of the original film as opposed to rewriting the whole thing or simply copy and pasting it. And not being whatever the hell Highlander: The Source was. Seriously, I don't understand why Highlander II has had so much effort put in to try and fix the unfixable while this one which is I’d say very clearly the most salvageable of the bunch hasn't been given the same level of treatment. Lol
You could tell Duncan didn't want to do it but knew he had to I'll admit I cried during this scene but I can understand how Connor felt about not wanting to live forever i myself wouldn't be able to do deal with the constant heartache that goes with it watching the people I love and care about die while I'd have to remain and stay behind
That's excatly what I thought during the whole scene... By the way, the move that Duncan used to kill Connor was avoaided by Kell, right? Duncan killed Kell but with the jumping move, right?
The Prize are the true aspirations of the victorious immortal (the last one standing). Ramirez said "each man's thoughts and dreams are yours to know". Connor wanted true knowledge of the world - "I know what people are thinking - I can help them understand each other" and he wanted the ability to have children and grow old. He pretty much got his wish IF you only regard the first Highlander movie as a standalone film. So the prize is the true aspirations of the victorious immortal.
Connor was slightly, just slightly! stronger than Duncan, but Connor no longer wanted an immortal life, that was the point of Connor's story. Connor knew that separately there was a risk that the Highlanders could be defeated buy Kell, but knew that with there united strength they would have a very good chance of defeating him and becoming the perfect warrior. Connor loved Duncan as his Clansmen, apprentice, brother and dearest friend, and happily gave the life he no longer wanted so that Duncan would inherit his strength, wisdom and power. He forced Duncan his true brother and friend who loved him so much to become the ultimate Highlander, who can live for both of them and stand for the highest ideals of Honour and Justice in the centuries to come in both there name ''The Highlander''. Great men don't seek power but have power thrust upon them.
I found it an interesting touch in the movie how it almost seemed like Duncan absorbed so much power from Connors quickening that he almost seems he got his memories too!
Well both franchises had things that would immediately contradict things that would happen in later installments (like connor and the prize in HL1 and things like Wolverine losing his claws then having them back or maybe new ones in DOFP). The difference between the two now is that the producers and Bryan singer looked at it and went this is too jumbled up let's fix that with DOFP by constructing a new and concrete timeline, while Highlander was just left pretty messed up with continuity no matter how much I love the series (and Xmen for that matter though Xmen origins and X3 can both go die in a ditch)

in a way Duncan didn't really kill him, but set him free from "the gathering" and home to the highlands to be back with his bonnie (beloved) Heather. Duncan set Connor free and sent him home. But there can truly be only one and in the hearts of many highlander fans "the only one" is Connor McCloud of the clan McCloud.
Well technically in any version of this film you see Sean Connery doesn't actually appear at all in Endgame. This YT user must've edited this scene because i have this movie on DVD and this is different to how the movies quickening vision thingy goes
I felt like crying at the scene. Seeing two brothers fight to the death just to save the world all so Jacob Kell doesn't get the prize andmake the world burn. I can see why they called it endgame. I wanted too much for the movies and series to continue. Saw the source and I didn't like it but it was a continuation. I know it was going to have 2 more parts to the movie afterward if it didn't get such horrible reviews. Would have been nice to see Duncan's son learn from McCloud. Everything he could bestow upon him. Everything he learned from his experiences to pass on to a child is in a sense true immortality. The way this ended, I know Connor was at peace with his decision and wanted this ending. They will always be together in a sense. Just seeing Duncan take Conners quickening makes me tear up. Hardest one he must have endured even harder than Jacon Kell's. 😢
The first three films make sense if you swap the second and the third around. Connor believed he had the prize at the end of the first one, because Kane couldn't go to the gathering. After Connor killed Kane, he did when the prize. However general Katana's arrival on Earth restarted the gathering.
this sceen shocked me when i first saw it but conner knew the only way to defeat kell was for the 2 of them to join their strength and the only way to do that without breaking the rules was for 1 to behead the other
They rendered the original movie non canon all because of popularity? That's the worst thing you could do. That movie was the reason why this show became popular in the first place.
Connor said Duncan needed his power and knowledge combined with Duncan's to defeat the latest enemy. This was from Endgame. It was a handover of the movie reins to Adrian Paul aka Duncan.
I personally couldn't handle being immortal having to see everything and everyone i love die and pass on while i would have to stay... idk anyone who could handle that kind of burden or heartbreak
Loved the first movie. Loved the show. But I always felt like they should have stayed in separate universes. Every time we see Connor after the first Highlander it cheapens the prize. It's like saying " hey remember when you fought the last guy and got the prize?....just joking there's plenty of you guys left"...
+Jimmy Boyd Got a point there. We can ditch both the second and third movies since those were definite sidetracks. I think that the series was a partial reboot at least with this movie finishing it all. That fifth scramble of a movie was in many ways worse than the second movie as it made little to NO sense at all. I originally thought that the "prize" would be ascension (Godhood possibly?) and that they all had to earn it and that there might be different "generations" (Would explain why new ones were "born" all the time AND the fact that none of them ever even knew their mothers)
@LATINTORPEDO - Connor dying sucked big time. But for the sake of drama and interest in the movie it made all the sense in the world that he did. Tired of the pain of loss in losing friends and loved ones through the years. Living with the curses that plagued his very soul....etc. He was tired of living and wanted his best friend to take his head and be strong enough to carry on and win The Prize. Sad scene though. A lot of people were emotional at the movies when seeing this that understood it.
Every time I listen and see this soundtrack it reminds me of my family and the lost of my dad and ex girlfriends I had and other stuff I had no one wonder I have this curse. I don’t know what love is no more 😢😢😢😢😢😢
This scene is what I hate the most about this movie. I can't believe that Connor would hate his own life, that he would just give up like this nor would he be willing to die at the hands of his own brother, Duncan.
I didnt appreciate the highlander movies as much as I should've done growing up, born in 81, but I did watch them, and now i do realise they were very very good, the 3rd one is just abysmal though lol, my word
The prize was to know mans thoughts and makes you enables you to grow old and have kids. but it also give you control over man that's why the evil ones wanted it for the power over man part.
Still a great scene. Duncan had a really tragic tale. He outlives everyone he loved. Yeah I saw that sci-fi channel tv movie and I hated it. It did not even fit the tone of endgame let alone the series.

Totally agree. This is just a mistake the film producers made. What REALLY happened was that the OTHER guy died and Conner is still alive. Dont care what the series or movies says. Sometimes they need to stop making movies after the first two.
Agreed, I love the first movie too. Not the rest, but even though it sucks to see Connor die, it's also a relief to know he is with Bonny Heather again 🤘🏼🥰🤘🏼
