Highway Star, Steve Vai & Yngwie Malmsteen & Zakk Wylde & Nuno Bettencourt & Tosin Abasi, Count Basie Theatre, Red Bank, New Jersey; May 9th, 2016; Generation Axe - A Night of Guitars; Final song of the night
Winter NAMM about ten odd years ago I was about 30 feet away from him trying to get a photo and a jackass security guard kept intentionally blocking my shot. Steve noticed and he looked over and held a smile for much longer than most would have to help me get the photo. I always thought that was a good sign that he was an actual ok guy and not just putting up a front on interviews like some seem to do.
Deep Purple is my Favorite band of all time. I grew up with them before i was 10! - This was always was one of my favorite songs! I saw DP in 73 when they were in Denver. I saw DP in 85 when I was stationed in Germany. I have to agree, this is one helluva cover! Thank you Steve Easton for putting this up!!!
If only we could have had Jason Becker up there with them, now *that* would be one amazing gig - not to mention, seeing them all together is 4 checks off the bucket list of “Seeing ‘insert name here’ play live before I or they pass” - what an incredible set that would be…
Malmsteen's even playing John Lord's keyboard pieces...now how brilliant is that ! He's a class apart! His arpeggios are almost like they're programmed to be played ANYWHERE ...ANYTIME!!!
I gotta say he's probably the best player ever. Lots of people don't like that he shreds all the time but you can get glimpses on this tour of him playing anything
But he's not using a Hammond B3 like Lord did. Jon Lord was a.fantastic musician and part of an incredible band. Malmsteen is a virtuoso guitarist, but his shows are more recitals than anything. I've seen both Deep Pirple and Malmsteen live.
That was incredible. I can not imagine being at a concert where the best guitarist of the 20th and the 21century play together. This is like Bach, Beethoven, and Movart all playing together
Watching from Austin Texas. I gotta say, that's the first time EVER that I've seen Yingyang even remotely humble. Guess I'll cut him a little slack. Thanks for posting
+Lee Dubya Malmsteen has always been humble when he plays with Steve Vai don't you remember when he played with Steve and Joe Satriani touring a long time ago..
An amazing assembly of talent. The only one I've seen live is Yngvie. He really is that good. He was opening for Ronnie James Dio. That night was pure magic.
Ingwie has to sing, his ego wont allow a singer to steal his show. That's why he fired his good ones. But yes, his voice and style fits Highway Star well!
I used to work at a venue called Vicar Street in Dublin and got to watch a show of his years ago, maybe around 2011 or so. He was just such a great guy, his interactions with the audience, his absolutely drama free approach to dealing with venue rules etc. He was the absolution antithesis of some of the musicians we got in.
Yes and he has incredible abilities to give new voices to the guitar. Yngwie is a beast of a shredder that can with skill and attitude shrink the tallywhackers of all those in his presence. His playing is incredibly fast and very impressive but he most definitely (and I know it's been said a million times) just lacks expression. He's played the same way forever. Doing the same neoclassical, minor scale stuff. Never got into Jazz guitar at all with that type of talent and after all these years odd to me. No Stravinsky-esque incorporating of progressive concepts. He is the technical shredder equivalent to AC/DC. Vai gives it up to Malmsteen because he knows how great he is at shredding his ac/dc harmonic minor shit combined with his showmanship. And I know there's this downplaying of ego and all that but...c'mon...we all know Blue Powder is better than anything Yngwie ever did, no matter how many arpeggios were swept.
I’ve met Zakk several times, he’s always been awesome and completely down to earth. He also plays with such passion and heart. That’s a mark of a true great.
One of my favorite shreds is version of SAILS OF CHARON.Jesus expected the strat to catch fire. He blazes. And both solos in JUDAS .He can surprise you in the. studio. That neoclassical harmonic minor stuff is so heavy to the ear.
I like Steve Vai. He comes across as very friendly and humble. He's the kind of guy you could easily go to the local pub with and get very drunk and have a ball. Malmsteen on the otherhand is very arrogant and full of himself. I dont like him or his playing at all. BTW I didn't know he could sing either. That was a bit of a shock
That´s not right. It depends on tuning and even on pressing the string and every time it´s differend tone. Of course, sometimes unhearable to human ear but I know dudes who can hear quartertones. So no, it´s not 12. And I understand what do you mean but he thought every single on. But in your point of view there are still many tones.
I like Steve Vai. He's a humble and matured intelligent gentleman. He is one of the few genius guitarist who can organize concert like this also can get along with other genius guitarists like Yngwie and Zakk . Without Steve , perhaps Zakk and Yngwie never could play together on the same stage with smiling like this.
@@beertek22 Just finished watching the Crossroads "head cuttin' duel" vid here on RU-vid. Then it led me to this. Saw the Generation AXE tour live. Amazing, and so glad someone captured it and posted it.
Very cool the intro that Vai gave. And... I've always know how much of a shredder Malmsteen is. BUT, I have never heard him sing before. I didn't even know he COULD sing. That Swede has some good pipes on him!!! And, JP Bouvet jumping in and learning all of Matt's drum parts on 2 days notice to fill in. Wow! DAMN, how I wish I have been able to see this tour.
