Iv put this video together from feedback on previous videos, on how to do a basic set up of a Hikvision IP System. For more day to day projects, head over to my Instagram account: newbuild_diy_journey Thank you for watching.
I want to say thank you so much for this video. We crossed swords as we disagree on car finance but your video helped me massively when setting up my NVR - thanks a bunch
fantastic video mate. A few security issues on our street have had me and the Mrs looking into CCTV. this video has helped us loads and we are going to give Hikvision a go. thanks again
@@DIYJourney1 Hey do you guys have a camera / system that will do the following, Night vision in very low light, has wired or wireless, can record locally, can use a computer or other large monitor, , can send notifications via phone (phone service not wifi), doesn't require the internet, works in outdoor conditions, ? And is somewhere around 300 USD for two to three cameras and the thing to record them as well as the software? Like the complete package.
Great video.thank you, I'm finding my sky router is getting really hot since my camera was connected to it... would there be a fear of it overheating or getting damaged??
Great advice thank you . I've had a ds 7200 turbo hd DVR with 2 cameras given me .. I will hard wire the 2 cameras to the dvd box which is standard I am assuming ... But do I have to connect the dvd box to a router or can I set up the internet part of it through the hot spots of my phone ... I ask because I do not have the internet where the camera are .. thank you
I assume you don’t have the 4g DVR/NVR so yes it will be needed to connected directly if you want it in your phone. Powerline adaptors can be used which helps.
Hi mate. Very useful video thanks. Our circumstance is a bit different. We are attempting to use a Hikvision mini dome in an Owl nest box : ] The nest box is apprx 1.2m square and you can view live cameras here on youtube for Owl boxes, Robert E Fuller has some great live feeds here on RU-vid. We will be linking it to a Hik VCR as you show and recording footage for uploading to RU-vid later. I got a bit confused with the app bit. In order to connect to the camera view with your phone you need the internet...is that right? As you have wifi there in your house. Unfortunately we don't have the internet, modem or wifi at our venue, so I assume the app will not be able to connect to the camera? I'm new to this stuff so just getting my head round it all. I think a possible way to enable phone viewing is by linking a 4G router to the VCR and using that as our signal. The area location has good 4G signal, though our course the router would need a network sim. Have I understood all this correctly? Would be grateful for any help you give. Cheers, Steve.
That's a great video, I just wished I'd watched it before trying to initially set up my nvr. how do I resolve the blank screen after pressing the adjust resolution key, my tv won't go to the required resolution so stuck in limbo. there's plenty of instruction on how to go back into the nvr and alter the res after you've initialised it but nothing about when you fall at the first hurdle. My nvr is the hikvision 7600 any help gratefully received
Hoping for advice as we changed our Internet provider and so lost our camera to computer viewing. Changed ip address but not helped. Thank you so much 😘
This is the clearest video I have watched for setting up the system. Can I ask you a question? I can only view my cameras on my phone if I am at home via WiFi. It says offline if I am away from home. What have I done wrong? Thank you
Thank you for the feedback. That was the aim of the video from my experience also. I have had this experience myself also, and I struggle to recall what it was. Im wanting to say it was the DHCP setting which allowed the ip addresses to alter to suit. Im not very knowledgable on the network side of things, but could be worth checking that is enabled. What I would it could be worth trying to disconnect and reconnect on the Hik connect page. Sorry I cant be more help. Rob
Hi mate. I have 2 IP cams with built in dvr's at the moment using micro SD cards. If I get this system would I be able to connect my existing cameras to the NVR. Thanks in advance.
Could you help I have a Hik just the one camera it worked OK for a while then for no reason it stopped working and the message says it off line is this an easy fix Many Thanks
Hi, The ethernet from router to nvr would be required to have access to the cameras remotely on the app or computer. Of you are happy to view via a monitor connected to the nvr then no its not needed. You could use home powerline adaptors to connect your nvr to the router.
I have 4 cameras installed in a house I’ve just bought and I don’t have the video recorder. Is it as simple as buying a video recorder and inputting the 4 Ethernet cables (for 4 cameras - they are bundled up linked to the office room) in to the recorder and following your instructions to set this up? Also would you be able to advise where to procure the video recorder from?
I'm currently looking at a similar solution and would like to determine what quantity of HHD storage is required. Can you advise wether you have motion triggered or continous recording enabled and the amount of storage this takes up over a month?
I have motion detection on, with 2TB HDD and 5x 8mp cameras and can see back to mid October. Personally I don’t see a need for continuous but is down to personal preference
@@DIYJourney1 Thankyou for the quick response. I have read other manufacturers provide a pre motion recording of 5/10 seconds to ensure targets are captured in the footage. Have you ever found this to be required and if so has the positioning of the cameras help aleviete this?
Hi mate my friend has unplugged everything as he is having the room plastered but says camera aint working. Am i right to say once he connects it all up to the tv the camera will work again? Could you also tell me what pin is the wire please that connects the camera to the tv?
Thanks for the video, I've moved into a house with this system but it says 'no video' and its offline, but it's connected to the router. I can't find which app is correct either, there seem to be lots, but not the exact name. Can you help me at all please?
Hi, I would suggest trying the ProControl App, but first of all its key to get it online. Id start by maybe, resetting the nvr and cycling the internet connection. Also ensure your Firmware is upto date on the nvr.
Having recently bought a later model - which "typically" came with no instructions - and found only a professional-level manual online, I was really looking forward to this video. Sadly, it has so far proved beyond me. Heaven knows how the (wired) mouse works. Do any manufacturers nowadays realise that their customers are not trained experts?
Thank you very much for your kind reply. For information, I have in the interim sent a message to HIkvision and await, hopefully, a reasonably detailed reply, perhaps including a "Get Started" piece of literature. Best regards, Roger. @@DIYJourney1
Hi, I believe but could be wrong without doing the research, blue is one of the other types of and could may be a smart event recording. My newer Acusense records with blue, but is still yellow on the app
Yeah normally on the settings it does doesn’t it with green being motion. I do think blue is smart recording on the playback though, I could be wrong however. It may be a newer firmware or something on the cameras/nvr if its newer than yours and the same.
What happens to the DVR and or hard drive if you have a power cut, are they corrupted and therefore no good, have to renew them? Also I need to turn my electric off as the bathroom pull cord on the light switch has just snapped and you can’t just renew the cord you’ve gotta replace the fitting so need to turn off electric. So when shutting down the DVR ( don’t know how to do that yet ) I’ve see a video that says it’s not shut down only ready for you to remove the plug from the wall. Is that correct? Mine has a 4 way splitter so do I unplug both? Any help will be much appreciated. Kind regards in anticipation.
Im not sure if this is being way overthought about. I can only comment for my system, but the idea of a NVR with a hard drive is to store the information regardless of a power cut. Would defeat the object if it all was corrupted after. I literally just turn my NVR off at the switch and its off. Im sure there is a way to do it via the NVR, but after 7 years with this system, Iv not had an issue yet
@@DIYJourney1 Hi, thanks for the very quick reply. It was just something they guy that installed it said and then I’ve seen it on RU-vid videos and googled it too, but if you’ve had no trouble that’s very reassuring as I’m desperate to have a bathroom light back.. the light also works the extractor fan so I’m not even sure what light fitment I need? Just something else that I need to find out.. I’m stuck in as I’m one of the few that can’t have a covid vaccine. Life is a real hassle for me now! Thank you again for the quick reply. Take care.
hi, very good video, well done sir! a quick question - your DVR is EMBEDDED version, is it a better version? will your instructions work with other Hikvision recorders?
Can u tell me why on line crossing and intrustion i have 5 camreas it only lets me do 2 line crosses and one intrustion then says something about storage
Can I ask you a question, I set myself a Poe setup up I brought cat 6 wire into my garage and fixed the 2 cameras to my garage covering my back and side of my house really all I need, but the wife bought me another camera for Christmas, now if I put this camera at the front of my house I have no way of getting the cable back to the NVR, so what’s the best way of setting it up as a stand alone camera recording to the SD card the camera is the hikvesion colour VU 4mp DS-2cD 2347G2-LU
Great question, few ways I believe, you could just power the camera with a poe supply and try connect wirelessly. What I did at our old house with a remote garage, I used a poe injector to power the camera, and then use powerline adaptors to get the data back to the nvr which was in the loft. Worked great.
@@DIYJourney1 ok so I understand power supply for the camera then a wireless adapter to send the signal, so will the NVR get the single because it’s connecting to the same router or do I need something at the NVR, my NVR has just got a cat 6 wire coming from my router straight into the NVR, or will this camera be nothing to do with the NVR and recording onto the SD
Using powerline adaptors its a direct connection to the nvr not the router. Hard to explain but this is the jist: Camera > POE Injector > Garage Powerline Adaptor > Housewiring because of powerline adaptors > NVR Powerline Adaptor > NVR The > are cat5 or 6 cable, hope this helps, very hard to explain.
@@DIYJourney1 I see, so you basically saying the same way the BT adopters work ? but they have have to be on the same ring mains earth and my garage isn’t
Thats it, although not BT ones. I always use TP Link ones, much better. Iv heard a few say that, but that certainly wasn’t the case at my old house as the garage was fed on its own circuita d consumer unit. At my current house, they have been used on the downstairs ring feeding a device on the upstairs ring. Its certainly worth a try, I used that method for 4 years with no issues.
Hi mate. I just moved into a property a d the previous owners left the cctv installed. They left the nvr box in the attic with the mouse. They said we could connect it to our smartphones. Is that true? Not sure how to connect it to the TV as the nvr box is in the attic. So confusing!
If it is a hikvision system, you will need to connect a ethernet cable from your router to the LAN port on the NVR. If the router is not close by then you can use powerline adaptors. You would also need the hikconnect app. Also to watch on the TV there is a hdmi port normally on the back of the nvr and this will allow viewing on a tv
@@DIYJourney1 thank you. I was wondering what a powerline adaptor was, searched it and then noticed the previous owner left it in our living room. Was wondering what that was. I'll set it up with an Ethernet cable and then try to use the app. My next issue is the login and password provided by the previous owner doesn't work and the previous owner said if all fails then to contact dg alarms. Thanks again.
Hi, I have a question. If I change my Modem, and I want to access the Cemera on the Phone again using CAM HI, i cannot find the camera, is there anything I have to do. Is the password usually come from the recording box or is it just the modem or camera password
We've moved into a house and taken over a Hikvision 4 camera setup. Can anybody help me to connect to our internet? The router is downstairs at the opposite end of the house. Do I need a very long ethernet cable or can I do it all wirelessly? Thanks. Great vid by the way.
Yes you would require either a direct connection with an ethernet cable or another option is to use something like the TP Link powerline adaptors which just require a plug near and uses the homes electrical wiring to send internet data, removing the need to run internet cables. Link here for adaptors: amzn.to/3qtpHfK
Hey man, I'm trying to setup the system so I can view the cameras outside of the house. It works all fine on our wifi at home but I can't figure it out for outside the house. Do you have any tips?
Hmm...I had that previously, but was down to not doing the port forwarding. On the more recent units, I have always just cycle enable dhcp and then chose hik connect on the platform access page
Very good question, and to be honest I don’t know the answer. I want to say its not needed, but know the NVR beeps on initial set up if the hard drive isn’t formatted making me think it is required. Absolutely nothing stopping you just having it as a live viewing aswell as recording, just don’t view the saved footage I suppose.
Personally I don’t know of the max, hopefully someone can advise. I believe a limiting factor maybe the number of hdd you can install. No harm in going say 4TB over a 1TB. I could be wrong but I also think bigger helps the processing speeds of the nvr too
I have this cctv system and I’m really happy with it especially the app but I didn’t set it up and soon I need to turn off the electricity as I’m having new lights fitted by an electrician. I know I have to shut down the system but my question is when I turn it on will all the settings still be there and will it start recording automatically?
I have no issues when I turn mine off, which regularly I have and as long as the footage is recorded on to a storage device then in theory you shouldn’t lose your recordings. I never have.
Hi, I buy mine from DVS, who are a trade dealer. There are retailers out there I have seen that sell. They are slightly dearer, but I think it was CCTVTEK I saw.
I presume you mean with having a RJ45 connection aswell as a 12v connector. This particular system is POE, so power over ethernet. This powers the camera so no need to a power supply. The only time I would say a power supply would be needed is in remote setting where the camera is recording locally rather to a NVR.
It depends what system you have. If the cameras and NVR are POE, then plugging the camera directly to the NVR with the cat5/ethernet type cable will power it. If they aren’t POE, or you cant physically get that connection between the canera and NVR then you will need a power supply.
Can you tell me why all of a sudden when I go into playback my front camera is saying no records found. Yet my back camera works for playback. I just don’t understand why it has stopped working. Your help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
It depends what cameras you have, I assume it the colorvu or ones with a strobe. I believe in the settings there is an option to turn them off, but may affect the quality of the image
Can you advise please?? I’ve set my hikvision colorvu camera to 5mp using its internal osd.. my nvr is only 4mp And I now don’t have any image. How can I reset the camera without accessing its osd? It’s not ip camera it’s a bnc one
Hi, please could you help me, I have a Hikvision 4 camera system the the dvr is a DS-7204HQH1-K1. I changed the hard drive for one which was double the capacity of the one that was in.Of couurse I did not know that you had to go through a certain proceedure in order to swap hard drive so the end result is I have a blank screen. The guy who fitted it seems to have done one as his phone number gets me nothing.Any help to get it up and running would be most welcome, i'm 76 so go easy on me lol.
Give this a try: Log into your NVR and navigate to the Menu (right click) Select Configuration Click on the Live View tab on the left hand side At the top of this window, click on the View tab Select the live view layout you wish to configure via the buttons on the bottom left of the preview panel (in this case 4x4) Click the [x] next to the channel name (D01, D02 etc.) of any camera you don't wish to view in the preview panel (our customer needed to remove 6 unused channels). Their D01-D16 name should be replaced with a blank X Hit Apply when done Navigate back to your NVRs live view and the No Link messages should have been replaced with the Hikvision logo.
Hi, If you want to power a remote camera, you would need a Power over ethernet injector, then you would connect that between the tp link powerline adaptor and the camera.
I have a hik vision 4 camera cctv system. It works perfectly. However the most annoying thing with the system is that it bleeps whenever a camera is activated. I have gone through the camera system to try and switch off this bleeping - all without success. Can you give some advice how to switch off this bleeping. Thanks
Hi, Apologies, this is not something I have ever come across, nor seen a setting for that option on all the NVR’s Iv had. Hopefully someone can help with this.
@@chrisyarrr hi Chris, I went through the camera system and removed the line crossing which I had created. (if this makes sense). The shadows from the sun, movement of trees, leaves rolling down my drive or anything that broke this line activated the bleeping. It might have been a tad to sensitive. But it’s now sorted, if you are having the same problem. To eliminate the bleeping, Go into the settings and the bleeping remove any line crossings, grids or tweak the sensitivity of the system. It worked for me 👍
