@@MakuraZalis In the book, Skeeters mom is dying of cancer & comes out to find hilly in that mess ' there is no shouting she suggests to hilly to go home & rest because no husband would like to see their wife in that state . Also in the book Skeets mom doesn't know about the pie . Read the book its better than the flim ❤
@@curtyeomans8446 In the book Hilly sends Celia a nasty passive aggressive letter banning her from all future Junior League events and asks for a $200 donation for ripping Hilly's dress. Celia is so depressed after the benefit she stays in bed for days and decides to leave Johnny until Minny tells her everything including the pie story. Days later whilst cleanning Minny comes across the cheque addressed to 'Two Slice Hilly'. Celia played it brilliantly rather than publicly humiliate Hilly by revealing it Celia let her know quietly that her dirty and shameful secret isn't as safe as she thinks. Most of the women do work out that Hilly is the woman in the pie story and only a few stay loyal to Hilly but the rest plan to vote her out as president of the Junior League and are done with her so she loses all of her power
The irony is in the book Hilly gave herself away. The pie story was the last chapter and Hilly starts telling everyone the book is about Jackson and tells everyone to fire their maids because they're in the book then when she reads her chapter she does a complete 180 and says it isn't Jackson which gives her away 🤣 One of the ladies pulls Skeeter aside and tells her she was so touched by the kind things her maid wrote about her that not only will she not be firing her maid who is the reason the poor woman can get out of bed everyday but she plans to tell Hilly she deserved that pie and more and she won't be voting for Hilly to be president of the Junior League if Hilly dares to tell her to fire her maid again. The book also details that not all the stories were bad some of the maids have some lovely stories about the families they work for one says her husband got shot amd her employer who is a doctor came to her house and treated the husband himself because the doctor was worried the husband would pick up an infection in the hospital that black people use. Skeeter also pays all the maids for their stories and when she gets paid she divides the money up and gives it to every maid who contributed to the book.
I am not sure because I have never written a check in my life but ain't it fraud to accept a check with a fake name that does not correspont to the receptor in this case, even if it's directed to the same person?
She is awesome in this scene. She goes from questioning her daughter's life (at the beginning of the movie) to realizing she was right. She had been raised when segregation was acceptable but obviously changed her mind. She was so proud of her daughter going off to NY.
The argument between Skeeter and Hilly was so funny, satisfying and well scripted. I hope Emma Stone and Bryce Dallas Howard get involved in more movies together in the future. Though I can't resist the fact both of them play their own versions of Gwen Stacey.
It was entertaining to see this argument between Hilly and Skeeter, as well as her mum tlaking down to Hilly. Works very well for the tone of the movie. But I'll never forget how heartbreaking the confrontation was in the book. The fact is, there barely was one because Hilly was unaware of how ill Skeeter's mother was and seeing her that frail took the wind out of her sails. She just left the house and we can assume they never spoke again after that. It was heart-wrenching because they were best friends for all their childhood and adulthood, but Skeeter just couldn't carry on overlooking how racist and generally horrible Hilly was. Skeeter leaves that town with an amazing job offer but no friends to ever go back to, no boyfriend and her mother was dangerously ill. Aibileen paid the highest price for getting involved in the book but Skeeter was definitely not left unscathed.
Babe, I caught them at 37.....takes one kiss from a liar .....I promised to never hide mine like it was hidden from me. Xxxxyoure a good girl....the liar that gave it to you isn't xxxxx
my cousin got them because her boyfriend told her it was no big deal. she excuses that because they were young but I would've been furious. it's for life.
@@chaosspy6723 And herpes is a big deal. It can literally kill babies. I hate when people downplay the seriousness of herpes. People downplay it all the time, too. It's ridiculous.
Constantine would have been proud of skeeters mum that day....i think she would have seen her regret and her change from her high position in heaven, and i hope she forgave her.
@@echohunter4199 If you look closely at 0:23, you can see the date of check, which is July 6, 1964. And the amount adjusted for inflation is now $1,985.41. This took place 4 days after the Civil Rights Act was signed by president Johnson on July 2 of that year.
Charlotte never said "Looks like you have been eating too much pie" to Hilly in the book, or anything she said to her after that for that matter. But guess they needed to redeem her after making her look like a villain for "firing" Constantine. Wish they kept the part with Celia saving Minny's life from an intruder but guess that would be too "white saviour" for them. 😂 Book is so much better honestly.
Every time someone offers me their drink, I swear I want to scream like skeeter's mom... get off my property before we all get one of those disgusting things on our lips
No way would a society woman in that place and time say "raggedy ass" to someone outside the family. In the book, Hilly doesn't even totally follow through on telling Skeeter's mother what she planned to say because she sees how ill the woman is.
Not sure what's going on here but "Hilly" is Ron Howard's daughter so don't understand why she isn't in everything. She is a terrific actress. RH can't get something together? I 🤔 they're both selfish. Why r they keeping all her talent to themselves?
Feel free to confront me in real life my friends. I will be with my deeply religious mother who I cannot stop from being racist if you misbehave. One wrong move and it will be your fault that my mother no longer feels welcome in Singapore as a conservative older woman and I am sent to India 😊
