Is the $68,000-driveaway Toyota Hilux SR5 still a great pick-up to buy? Or has it been outclassed by newer rivals like the T6.2 Ford Ranger or Mazda BT-50?
We take a look at the near-flagship Hilux to find out. Keep in mind that Toyota will soon launch a new top-of-the-range Hilux GR Sport model here in Australia.

Bought a Hilux SR5 last year, owned a Ford for the previous 5 years. Fords after sale service was atrocious, and at one point I was without the car for 3 months while they sorted out a recall. I will never buy another over-hyped up Ford again.

I got similar case as well. I used to own Hilux last 10 years and I choose brand new Ranger 2021. The Ranger’s engine has done big repair for 3 weeks. My big mistake is that to choose Ranger and no more Ford any more.

Picked up my new 2023 sr5 two weeks ago in this exact spec. The 360 camera quality is terrible but that’s my only complaint. Best looking dual cab on the market in my eyes. No crazy and annoying safety features. It just gets the job done. So much hate towards the hilux but I now know why so many people buy these. I’m also getting 8.7l per 100 in town. Great car and awesome on those long road travels.

@jeremyjames1972
@jeremyjames1972 Год назад
@Diploma Mill Doc in all fairness it is still a pickup so it's not refined like a car, but it has plenty enough power, the auto transmission is pretty good. It's a bit noisy engine wise but then it is a diesel. You don't notice it on the motorway and it really flies along especially when you use the power button. It's typical hard plastic everywhere inside but no rattles and the seats are comfy. It has harder suspension than standard but smaller wheels with thicker rubber for grip and so I don't find it rough at all. We came from a 2013 3.0 D4d Dakar model and this new one knocks the socks off the old one in every way.
@Latsaaben
@Latsaaben 5 месяцев назад
Yes, its maybe abit outdated compared to the other pickups and the driveline is, lets be honest, industrial and the ride is firm. But the Hilux is reliable and hold its value pretty good. I tested out the Ranger with its 2 liter twin turbo engine and 10-speed Ford/GM gearbox (yikes!). It had good ride quality and smooth shifts, engine was pretty decent too, but the seats were horrible. I ultimately choosed the Hilux when looking for a new pickup, it had much better seats and better reputation for reliability. I doubt that the Ranger will have the same lifespan as a Hilux...

Dispute 😮😮 small things amuses small minds. What you conveniently overlooked for the March sales figures was the export figures of over 6000 rangers to the European market, compared to Toyota's. 😢😢 There is also a waiting period for certain Ranger models. So, your excitement will be short lived come next month. Like Bob Marley said, Toyota can fool some people some time, but not all people, all the time. Much love❤ there in kavuki land. 😅😅

@@hipetwa FYI my good mate, the new legislation in your Country 🇿🇦 provides that Dealerships may no longer compel the Purchaser to exclusively use their after sale services by including service plans in the purchase agreement. It must be offered separate. The purchaser has a choice to either use the Dealership or another repair company of his/her choice. I believe you guys refer to it as Black Economic Empowerment, (BEE) or giving (SME's) Small to Medium Enterprises an opportunity to compete with the market giants. Ford currently is the only Manufacturer who is compliant, yet you praise Toyota who still includes the service plan in the purchase price, thereby disregarding your Country's Consumer Protection Act.

@@chriscross2209 let me correct you ford announced already the ranger car will not come with service plan optional plan warranty plan are standard but to service plan you decide to go to dearship or other people without warranty being void and to avoid dearships from voiding your vehicle if you take it somewhere else the told their customer you decide what you want to pay for service and maintenance plan at dearship ot you go somewhere else while toyota said you can do what ever you want for as long a we got you covered 🤣🤣

Your fuel consumption is wrong . Regularly getting 12.5 to 13 ltrs per hundred. Towing blows out to 18 to 20s per hundred. As for load and ride, do a full suspension upgrade, and it improves out of sight. Standard suspension is left wanting quite badly. Yes the interior is showing it's age but having test drove a new ranger I'll stick to the Hilux. The Ranger was to tech intrusive even for basic functionality. The Hilux will solder on day in day out . There is a reason why its still regarded as the bench mark others aspire to.

I think Toyota is not a good perfect car interm of quality of engineers in various things such as engine, interior upholstery, gearbox tranmission, safety features, technology but Toyota car is just average quality below standard of American car,or European car even mitsubishi car is the highest advance standard same as Ford or Volkswagen or Mercedes BMW or range Rover but why Toyota car is so famous and popular around the world starting from 1990 until today just because Toyota joint company and build it factory production car in America since from there are propagate about toyota rumors about it reliability and durability because Toyota car was production by American market with many many new model name and design that are not from Toyota japanese car
