Scott Ian, Anthrax's rhythm guitarist was a big fan of PE before they made this mashup. He was always wearing PE shirts on stage at their concerts and in interviews. PE returned the favor by name dropping Anthrax in their original recording of this song. Bringing the two groups together was destiny.

Saw this tour...Public Enemy fans showed up to hear Public Enemy...Anthrax showed up to hear Anthrax...after full sets by both you had metal heads digging hip hop and hip hop heads digging metal...everybody getting along, buying beers...was a great time to be alive...

Chuck D's voice is so iconic.....and Scott Ian's flow is commendable.

Run DMC/Aerosmith was a rap group coving a rock song.... THIS was a (frankly) White Metal band covering the most MILITANT black group of the time, and the respect flowed both ways. THAT is a moment! 💯

The FIRST REAL Rap/Metal fusion! Scott Ian from Anthrax had been seen in Metal magazines for YEARS wearing Public Enemy t-shirts, and that set the scene. Us metal kids were PRIMED for this shit, when it hit! We WANTED to get our mind opened! 💯 No shit... I was writing conscious rock songs. And then THIS came out, and I realized that I had 32 bars that I could write to instead of 16 bars... and I started writing conscious rap lyrics for the next 15 years. 💯😎 THIS is the song that changed what I was able to say, as an artist! 💯 I was an old-school punk rock kid. This was punk rock as SHIT!!! Two bands that were never supposed to be together, that were cool since day one! The original PE lyrics have a shot out to Anthrax, if you listen to the OG version of this song. 😎 Musical respect ALL AROUND!

When they were TOGETHER on Tour it was Mindblowing......Public Enemy as Support.....all the Metalheads were outside the Hall.....Anthrax entered the Stage and all Hip Hopers left the Hall......and then ..... THIS Song came up.....and we were ALL united in front of the Stage.....these LEGENDS broke Barriers forever !Greatings from Germany!

This song opened doors for fans of Metal and Hip Hop to find common ground and mutual respect. When this song dropped, it wasn't uncommon for fans of one genre to feel diametrically opposed to the other genre. They would see the other as just simply noise. All the while , the mainstream had them both written off as talentless noise. So it would seem only logical that both of these juggernauts of the New York Underground would band together to show that they weren't afraid to speak truth to power in a way that was honest and stayed true to both genres. Any art that challenges your world view should always be held in the highest regard because it plants seeds of empathy and understanding which allows humanity to grow and improve as a whole.

What I love about this track is the fact that Antrhax was so excited to be playing with Public Enemy that they basically went out of their way to make sure that EVERYONE was happy with the recording, the concerts, the tour dates as well as royalties. They could have easily "sampled" PE, but they WANTED to do it in person so bad that they refused SEVERAL offers by PE's camp to "just sample it". You will find a couple of GREAT (Completely UNDER-RATED AND UNDER-APPRECIATED) Rap/Metal tracks on the Judgement Night soundtrack.

That song stomps on your neck and don't let up. Great collaboration between Anthrax and Public Enemy.

They toured together. Anthrax is my Fav band. Went to see them on the tour with Public Enemy. Had no idea what to expect. Getting 2 totally opposite genres and totally different fans together. It was an amazing show. We all came together as fans of music. Us Metalheads pretty much do not like rap, but it didnt matter that night. Great fans, great show and a great night.

This is a big reason that Anthrax, for me, is the most relevant of the Big 4 thrash groups. They were the only ones of those thrash groups that were consistently promoting Black bands, wearing Fishbone and PE shirts in videos, and taking bands like LIving Colour and Kings X on tour. And of course, they took PE on a co-headline tour in 1991. Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer could never.

Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, And Run DMC is what made me fall in Love With HipHop back in the Mid 80’s. Still love it All. Terminator X is one of my favorite MixMaster/Dj’s

Apparently Chuck D was reluctant to re-record his own song at first. But then he heard the track Anthrax had made and he was all in. And history was made. And what's great is that it doesn't compromise on either end. Both the metal and the rap go hard AF.

Bring the Noise was *originally* from 1988's Nation of Millions (which I'm sure y'all already know) though the track was released early on the Less Than Zero soundtrack. I had playing Nation of Millions playing on repeat, so this was always an after-the-fact reimagining for me. I knew nothing of Anthrax, who apparently loved that they were name-checked on the song (and apparently were fans even before then, as someone else noted) and began playing a cover version of it at live shows. The collaboration resulting in this version from '91 was something of glorious, genre-shaking inevitability, and included them touring together. I read Chuck D credits the experience with causing PE to up the intensity of their live performances (which were already pretty intense). It's a cool story. There are several stories of PE's music breaking barriers; apparently Fight the Power is the tune that caused Prince to reassess his hostility towards hip-hop. I like y'alls vibe and reaction by the way, especially the passion for PE. First time viewer and I'll be checking out some more.

Back in '91, when this song came out, I thought it was one of the heaviest, coolest things I'd ever heard. I instantly learned all the words to it. What Run DMC started, with the collaboration Aerosmith, took the next logical evolution with this song. It ushered in a whole new genre of music with nu metal. It took the stigma off that people tend to hold that you can "only listen to" one type of music or the other. It proved that music and respect really have no boundaries. Other bands have proven their respect to the ones that paved the way like Korn covering Fight the Power with Xzibit (Korn also covered Ice Cube's song Wicked) and even Brazilian thrash band Sepultura covering Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos. That song is unique in that the middle of the song is rapped in Portuguese. I believe this song took hip hop out of the states and made it a worldwide phenomenon. Great reaction guys.

The song includes several shout-outs to fellow hip hop artists like Run-D.M.C., Eric B, LL Cool J and, unusually for a rap group, Yoko Ono, Sonny Bono and thrash metal band Anthrax, allegedly because Chuck D was flattered about Scott Ian wearing Public Enemy shirts while performing Anthrax gigs.

One of the best shows i ever been to was Anthrax at The House of Blues in Hollywood. Loved Anthrax growing up thanks to my older Hard Rock, Metal brother. Ive been hearing and loving from ACDC to Dice's stand ups since i was at least 8 or 9.

Chuck D was from Flushing Queens and members of Anthrax including Scott Ian grew up one neighborhood away in Bayside Queens. Greatness was in the water there

When Public Enemy and Anthrax went on tour in the mid 90s, Anthrax's drummer Charlie Benante said that, after every show, Flavor Flav would spend hours bashing around on his drum kit until the roadies had to take it away. ^_^

I got into punk and metal early on; I grew up poor and angry, and it spoke to me. When I heard PE, i heard the same anger and energy and I was in. This collab was inevitable and meant to be; so many fans of metal/rock and rap/hip hop jumped the fence and found more angry and intelligent music to vibe to.

My band did a cover of this at my high school's talent show. The other kids in the band were from my neighborhood. I went to a Catholic prepatory school and my bandmates did not. Oddly enough the teachers loved it, but the other students did not. Since then, I've actually met Anthrax and Public Enemy, separately, and they were lovely guys. Flavor Flav can actually play a few instruments very well.

When i first heard this was happening the metal snob in teenage me couldn't handle it, then i heard it in a club, loved it! The energy of both bands is incredible, this paved the way for more acceptance of both genres, i was wrong at first and I'm glad i was, classic track!

One of my favourite collaboration tracks between Rap & Metal. Another few i really like are Faith No More & Boo-Ya Tribe - Another Body Murder, Helmet & House of Pain - Just Another Victim and Mudhoney & Sir Mix-A-Lot - Freak Momma.

I always thought of Public Enemey as a heavy, loud rap band, and no one really came close to how heavy they were besides the metal bands, and coming together with Anthrax was perfect, bunch of dudes from NYC, and I am pretty sure a few of them went to school together, and they came together on this and knocked it out of the park.

The thing I find very interesting about this I have had this version since Attack of the Killer B's came out in 1991 the lead singer of Anthrax at the time was Joey Belladonna but on this song the singer was Scott Ian normally the lead guitarist. Chuck D has said many times that touring with Anthrax really made them up their game for live shows he has said that in the begining Antrax was just crushing it but by the end of the tour the energy had kind of leveled out but they learned many things about performing live from Anthrax

When PE's Apocalypse 91 album came out, this was the very last track on the album; when this came on, I stared at my Walkman like somebody kicked me in my temple...lol. Caught me off guard...but quickly became one of my favorite tracks.

I remember hearing Public Enemy for the first time, it was like someone rang a bell, school was definitely in session. D has one of the best rap voices, it's got authority.

I love that you compared Public Enemy to punk. Punk rock and rap has a common element in that both have there origins in being subversive and against the establishment. The music is different, but they also reconcile in way.

Scott Ian (rhythm guitar), Frank Bello (bass), and Charlie Benante (drummer) were definitely all huge metal fans. Anthrax did a rap song on their own before this, called I'm The Man, that was written to be like Beastie Boys and was supposed to feature them on it. It didn't work out. Charlie, the drummer, writes all of Anthrax music, and he listens to everything for inspiration. Whether it is rap or music his teenage daughter listens to like Billie Eilish. As for this recording, Charlie wrote the music and Anthrax recorded it, and they tried to get Public Enemy in to record vocals again, but the schedule didn't work out. They had to use the vocal track from the original Public Enemy version and match it to Anthrax's music track. Anthrax also showed Public Enemy how to do lighting for concerts. Chuck D said they hadn't been shown that before, and after they saw Anthrax play the first night on their coheadlining tour, he realized they needed to learn, and fast. He had a spare person, a utility guy, and Anthrax had him shadow their lighting guy, and he learned how Anthrax incorporated everything into a full performance. Chuck D loved how much Anthrax just wanted the whole show to be great from beginning to end and be a success. Chuck D has shown up at Anthrax shows to perform this, and when Public Enemy was indicated into Hip Hop Hall Of Fame, Scott Ian and Charlie showed up and played this song with them.

It was RUN DMCs tracks like 'Rock box' and 'tougher than leather' got me into metal.

Saw this concert back in '92 or '93, Anthrax and Public Enemy at Assembly Hall in Champaign. I was a huge fan of both and it was one of the best concerts I've even been too. There were a bunch of fans from both groups that never really heard the other except for this song, and by the end of the show everyone was jamming out.
