Vince is a golden soul. Patty has many jewels in her crown in heaven when she gets there. Two marvelous souls. Scandel free their entire careers and dedicated to making beautiful songs for mankind to enjoy. I expect both shall be in the heavenly choir with angels singing background harmony! August 2024.
I believe this was at a tribute concert after the legendary George Jones had passed away, and Vince was very close to George! You can hear the pain in the voice as he sings!
He and the Legend George were very close friends. That coupled with the fact that he had written this song for his brother when he passed contributed to his trouble maintaining composure. Bless his heart.
I am glad you are getting to know Vince Gill, because he is one of the premier country singer/songwriters. Most country singers now only wish they had half his talent. He is in the Country Music Hall of Fame and, as of last year, has 22 Grammy Awards. Only Alison Kraus surpasses him in the Grammy numbers (27 as of 2020--individual, and 14 more with her band Alison Kraus and Union Station. She is as astonishing as he is. There are great country singers...and then there are those who are just on a level few will ever achieve. Vince, Alison, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Sr...four I can think of right off the bat. There are others, but very few others.
Went to see Vince He sang this I'm not to hot on Country music,I sat and watched the crowd. You could've heard s pin drop, silence and his voice was truly was so pure. Have to say it was remarkable
Hi. Vince Gill had such an upbringing around these older "Country Legends" as a young boy n now a man. To see him break down on stage is understandable, to see Patty Loveless closely watching Vince n filling in with her powerful voice was very touching. To see those country music "Stars" stand for the song is such a testament to the support they give each other when they saw Vince struggling a little. Human emotions n support were given to all that day. Peace to you and yours
Watching the great Garth Brooks rise silently.....hat in hand....as a show of respect for the pain sweetpea was feeling during this tribute.....tears me up EVERY TIME I watch this. And I've watched this many times.
Patty was a true Angel that day for Vince in how she stepped up to support him in his time of deep grief. If this video doesn't give you chills, you need to do a bit of soul searching.
You'll never find a better human than Vince Gill anywhere! His whole being is drenched in LOVE! His friends adore this talented man. I was fortunate to see him perform when he was 17 and just starting out. He played with a band called Mountain Smoke, all of whom I eventually knew EXCEPT Vince. His talent jettisoned him into the ozone pretty quickly. He still visits his old friends....and has no arrogance whatsoever.
I have heard & seen Vince do this song hundreds of times but had this. OMWord. So touching. How very blessed they were to have a friend so very special it was this hard to say goodbye😔🙏🏼💔❤️🩹❤️
George Jones called Vince Gill Sweet Pea because he’s such a nice guy; and an artist not ashamed to wear his heart in his sleeve. He’s also as you no doubt one of the industry’s best musicians. It was as if he had to play that extol long bridge so he could get his anxiety and emotions under control. I could not imagine having to do that especially with your hero and friend lying in his casket right below you. I’ve seen Dolly Parton cry only a couple of times because she’s always so upbeat I think she’s afraid she’d be crushed by the world’s population coming to comfort her. The one time it happened on live TV was when she was asked to give out the song of the year at the the CMAs in 95 or 96 and Vince won for this song. When he came from backstage and he saw the standing ovation he just broke down. The song was written for his brother who passed the previous year. When Dolly saw that she handed that award back to the “model” and she went straight to Vince and started rubbing his back and let him lean on her while she was pouring tears herself. While he made his speech she stood back behind biting her lip to try to get herself back together. God bless all of us that are tender hearted and still wear them on our sleeves.
I was there. Sorry, didn't watch the whole video- haven't been able to re-watch that performance... I don't like crying, but I sure did the day Vince and Patty took to that stage.
Vince can't get through this because he wrote it for his brother.. Patty has his back through this entire song. I cry every time I hear it.,, Vince is amazing picking the guitar though.
This was an incredibly hard task for Vince to do. He wrote the first verse for his friend the great Keith Whitley after he passed away. The second verse was written for Vince's brother who passed away at a young age. Vince was very close to George, so it was added emotion on top of an already emotional song. Please listen to his version with Ricky Scaggs and Allison Kraus to get the pure beauty of this incredible song.
That is so sad 😭😭 make me cry my mom and dad brother heaven is beautiful place to go rest high on that mountain 🏔️ heaven had visiting hours go rest high on that mountain 🌄🏔️
It breaks me up seeing him unable to sing like that... and I fully understand why. If folks want to hear him singing the song fully, they need to go watch the official music video for the song. Vince can really belt them out, but was so emotionally overcome in this situation that he just did what he could do. Cheers.
Vince is a wonderful singer songwriter and musician. Nobody answers when I call your name, One More Last Chance, I still believe in you are some more wonderful songs by Vince
I guess I stood maybe 10 feet in front of Patty back in '88 at a thing in LA called Country Fest '88. Her big hit then was, "If My Heart Had Windows". Fell in love with her then & there! Vince is one of those guys who's been around so long, the '70's kept calling him back. Now he's singing with the Eagles! Together, these two are why us old guy's and gals prefer real country music... because its REAL. Just as the people in it are. Without genuine love for one another, what's the point? I don't know new country. When I hear it, I find I don't like it much. But these two, and who they're singing about, well... God bless them every one!
This is the epic performance of this great song and songwriter, Vince Gill. Thank you. Patty Loveless is extraordinary. The performance including Ricky Skaggs is one not to be missed either.
I remember watching this at the time. And the older I get, I just can’t get through without crying anymore. These things just hit differently as we get older. Thanks for this reaction. Even in sorrow, Vince and Patty are a dynamic duo.
I double-checked - Vince has 31 Grammies, 18 CMAs/2 Entertainer of the Year awards and 5 male vocalist awards...he is highly respected across multiple genres for his voice and his incredible skills on guitar.
This was an absolutely gut-wrenching rendition, but so worth watching, right? You have to love how Patty supports him. The relationship that Vince had with George Jones was certainly special and you can hear the love and respect. Awesome pick, PJ!
I like the upload where they include the funny personal story Vince told about George sending him a bunch of cans of ravioli. George also personally nicknamed Vince "Sweat Pea". I remember watching an old video with multiple country stars telling stories, in which Vince talked about it. They were very close friends. Charlie Daniel's also gave an awesome eulogy at George's funeral. Charlie has a great way of putting things into words. Though it's strange for me to think about how Charlie was at this funeral to hear this performance. Because a couple of years ago, I watched Charlie's funeral service via a livestream, and Vince performed this song there too. So in an odd way, it's almost like Charlie got a front row seat to see a performances that was done at his own funeral. Though, Vince did it solo at Charlie's funeral and didn't break down.
When my sister laying dying from cancer 3 years ago we would play this song over and over for her and she would rest easier while it was playing. It was her favorite. Now her daughters, grandchildren and I gather on her birthday and play it as a tribute to her. Vince is my favorite male voice of all time. This song has been played by so many families for funerals ever since he released it I've lost track of how many times I've heard it. Vince and Patty Loveless were a magical duo for this song 🎵. 🥀
I’ve been waiting for this one! That’s one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen. If you didn’t know anything of Patty Loveless before watching this video, you walk away knowing she is a class act and a cut above. She could have just as easy stood there & let Vince flounder in his emotions, but she stepped up and she carried it, while at the same time consoling him & helping him regain his composure. That takes style & class folks! Patty is one of those that is mostly known as a “backup” or “harmony” singer- she had a solo career, but she’s best known for her work with Vince & Ricky Skaggs among others. In my opinion, she’s pure badass. Listen to her live version of “you’ll never leave Harlan alive” if you want to hear what she can really do vocally.
He actually did that sing a bit ago, which indicates just how smartly he is researching what songs and videos to do. Patty did a lot of "mainstream" songs with radio airplay in the 1990s, but he managed to dig up one that I don't think ever got played on the radio, at least not the "mainstream" stations, but that was nothing short of legendary to those in the know.
What always struck me is that she was also very close to George Jones and had to be hurting as much as he was, but she held it together and helped him through it. You can hear parts where her voice starts to fill, then trails off as she watches him and follows his lead and helps him make it through the song. I have loved this performance since I first saw it because it was such a display of friendship and support. There are only a small number of people who can push through their own grief to help others and we should cherish them.
@@katrinaprescott5911 Remember her song How Can I Help You Say Goodbye? Well, in this video we watched her do just that. And a testimony to her talent when so many want her as their backup singer.
I agree with you. Patty Loveless is one of the best pure country and blue grass artists ever. Why she isn't in the hall of fame is a travesty. She is my favorite bar none.
Vince is one of the best guitar players in Nashville.. he’s up there with Chet Atkins. The way he played when he couldn’t sing 😭.. George Jones called him Sweet Pea, they were close.
George Jones used to call him Sweet Pea. He was so broke up when he sang this at George Jones funeral as you can see. I can't get enough of this song. It is so beautiful and so touching. Vince Gill is an amazing musician and a wonderful singer.
Vince broke down at Del Reeves funeral singing this song. George called him Sweet Pea. I have never seen an equally heartfelt performance, except at family funerals , when the family are singing favorite hymns of their loved ones.
Keith Whitley's death rocked the country music community, including his friend Vince Gill. Gill began writing "Go Rest High on That Mountain" after Whitley's death and finished the tune four years later, when Gill's brother passed away from a heart attack. 💔
Because you reacted to my request, I feel like I owe you a little bit more about Vince Gill. Once upon a time Gill was with a rock band, Pure Prarie League before starting out on his own. I'd suggest you react to "When I Call your name (with Patty Loveless)" - "Look At Us" - "One More Last Chance" and "Oklahoma Border Line." In 2017, After Glenn Freys death, Vince Gill was invited to join the Eagles to play Lead Guitar, Acoustic guitar and
This was one of the most beautiful performances. Vince Gill is one of the greatest vocalists in country music history, but it's his beautiful heart that makes him such a treasure in Nashville. It's on full display with this tribute to George! I suggest you check out some of Vince's songs like "When I Call Your Name", "I Still Believe in You", or "The Heart Won't Lie" with Reba McEntire. I'm sure you'll enjoy them! Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful reaction with us! God bless!
I have Vince Gill song title tattoo on my shoulder "I Still Believe In You" with the date of my dad's passing. I was a smart mouth teen and my dad was a respectful man, so he wasn't having it and we clashed a lot. I came home one night, at 17, a note on the counter said "go to the CD player hit #10, heard this song made me think of you". Years later, we danced to the song for our father daughter dance at my wedding. It means so much bc he was a man of little words. Would love to see you react to it. R.I.P. Daddy 🙏❤️🩹
My husband died just over 13 years ago and I had this song played at his funeral. It is my understanding that Amazing Grace was the number one song requested to be played at funerals until Vince wrote Go Rest High and now I believe it has replaced Amazing Grace as the number one song sung at funerals. The year my husband died, I attended four funerals that summer and this song was played at three of them. It's a beautiful song but it is one that I cannot listen to without crying and that's even if it isn't this super emotional performance by Vince and Patty. Other people have mentioned what a class act Patty was as she helped Vince through this song so I won't add a lot to what they have already said. I will just say, I agree, wholeheartedly.
Beautiful to see Vince's good friend and work collaborator Patty, really taking care of him. He and George were friends and George was a mentor to Vince.
I'm glad you introduced yourself to Vince Gill way back in the day he was in Pure Prairie League they had a few hits another one of those ridiculously talented singers and guitar players
