Patty is what what every man needs in his life. That music means so much to people of Appalachia and we all feel it in our bones and have had similar experiences growing up so when someone dies all we need is support and love and patty is the perfect person for this moment.
Just a comment for the West Virginia state outline. Much love from a native of Williamstown (home of the yellow jackets) back to back class A football champions.
His cousin, Patty Loveless, sure stepped up. You know she was in pain too but she went from harmonizing to lead singer every time he faltered. By the way, that guitar solo was an instant insertion he did to give himself time to recover
I love how during this performance, Patty saw how much Vince was struggling to hold back his emotions, so she vocally stepped up to help him, and even walked over to comfort him. A true sign of love, compassion, and friendship! A beautiful tribute. R.I.P George 💔
I have heard this song 100 times this version always gets me, Just to hear the pain in Vince Gill's voice with the loss of George Jones gets me every time
I’m always so touched by Garth Brooks being the one to stand up first in support of Vince. I don’t think they were ever particularly close, but they’re both deeply emotional guys, who loved George Jones. So, that was a nice show of solidarity.
Patty Loveless, is the consumate professional and one hell of a woman. She stood by Vince when was vulnerable and carried on with the song followed by tender caring touches. Heartbreaking. Awesome.
You can see the deep concern she has as she watches her cousin struggle. She was so strong to step up from harmonizing to lead when he needed it yet going back to harmonizing when he got it together. Her love of her cousin and her actions went unsung sadly.
The love and respect that Patty and Vince have for one another just shines in this performance. I think, though, my most favorite part was, when it became obvious that Vince was struggling, Trisha and Garth stood up in support and the rest of the audience followed suit. Good Stuff! Thanks, Dear Boy!❤️
I was glad to see the reverence you showed letting it play all the way through with out pause. That guitar solo that Vince played was not planned. He did that to give himself time to compose.
I had never seen this version. Poor Vince. He wrote this song when his brother died. This song was about his brothers fight through life. And then to sing it for George Jones' funeral had to make it doubly difficult.
Poeple wonder why we love Country music. It's because it's an old time feeling of growing up and the innocence and greatness of the human spirit. We band together for happy and sad times.
This performance gave me a whole new respect for what an amazing singer, and amazing person, Patty Loveless is. At 2:53 the look on her face tells me she’s already realizing Vince isn’t going to make it through this, so she steps up to hold the song together while Vince deals with his emotions, even though Patty was likely fighting the same emotions. She held the song together beautifully and going over to comfort Vince when he did end up losing it shows what a wonderful person she is also.
I don't know how many times I've watched this and I cry every time. George loved Vince and Patty, it's clear they loved him too. Seeing George's wife Nancy crying in the front row is just heartbreaking.
Vince wrote this song after the death of his brother and country singer Keith Whitely's untimely death at 34 yrs. old. Keith's song "No Stranger To The Rain", he mentions he fought the devil and was no stranger to the rain (lyrics in this song).
Patti had his back while he struggled with his grief. He loved him some George Jones. George's nickname for him was Sweet Pea. He mentored Sweet Pea early on. Yep, you need to check out Ms Patti..incredible voice. Plz listen to her sing You Don't Even Know Who I Am...please. And You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive. I was born and raised in Kentucky..and Harlan County was rough back in the day.
Yup. Sweet Pea loved George Jones and you could tell this was not easy for him...very authentic response. It was not a faked over dramatic response. It was grief...and yet he showed those feelings in that guitar tribute. Sweet Pea can make those strings sing!!!
I agree @Sandra Smith! I'm from Pike Co, KY. Turkey Creek /Belfry Area. This broke 💔 me! We lost my oldest brother over 11 yrs ago from an accidental overdose. He was only 49. Just 6 wks shy from his 50th birthday! My heart will never be the same! We weren't close because of his addiction. He pushed me and my family away because he was embarrassed. We had just started to get close when he stopped in between his travels from Florida to Ohio. He got to my house about 8:30 am (checking on him in between these hours) and I found him unresponsive at 3:45 Pm. The EMS got a pulse on him but, it was too late! His brain was without oxygen for too long! After the third day. His children and our Mom had him removed from life support! I NEVER left my Mom's or his children's side the whole three days! I will NEVER understand WHY HIM! WHY ME! WHY MY MOM & DAD! WHY HIS KIDS!! WHY?! WHY?!! WHY??!! I guess we'll NEVER know! I blamed myself for 2 yrs and spiraled into a deep dark depression! I climbed out of that bottomless pit of self loathing and self blame with God's help! He carried me through! I miss my sweet handsome brother everyday but I still catch myself playing that day over and over in my head like a movie! Frame by frame and questioning myself "What could I have done differently to change the outcome?!!" I honestly don't know. But, I do know; he doesn't blame me! He's visited me in my dreams and he's at peace.
@@kimberlygrimm7007 Oh, Kimberly. I'm so sorry you lost your brother, especially in that way. I lost my 2 younger brothers from Cancer. The pain would have been unbearable without Jesus. I hope you're trusting in Him as well. I can't imagine the pain of losing a brother in that way. So many lives lost, and it just gets worse. I'm so happy you've finally found peace over it. And dont ever let the devil steal that peace by making you feel that way again. He's so hateful, his time is short so he's working overtime to try and destroy our faith... loves to whisper in our ear the things he knows will hurt us , trying his best to defeat us. But " greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world"! Thank you for sharing that, and God bless and keep you and yours!
Patty Lovelace held that performance together. She got Vince through it. The guitar solo in the middle was actually improvised on the spot by Vince - the band knew to NOT start going again until he gave them the nod. He had to use that time to get it together enough to keep singing.
Please, please react to Alan Jackson singing “He stopped loving her today” at George Jones funeral. Alan and George were really close. It was a wonderful blessing for George’s family and all of us too.
Love, love, love Vince and Patty! George Jones was one of the greats! Notice the last 3 words of this song, Vince does his perfect impersonation of the Possum!! Props to these two for a perfect job on a tough day!
Vince Gill was an extra of George Jones George was Vince Gill's mentor and helped him so much when he was just starting out he owed George a lot and he loved George as much as any man could love another
Garth was great but Patty carried Vince through the whole thing. She never took her eyes off him. Women should be applauded for their caring and strength
Patty was much more than just a background voice. Patty had multiple #1 Country hits in the late 1980s/early 1990s and of her songs I would recommend "Blame It On Your Heart", "I Try to Think About Elvis", "How Can I Help You Say Goodbye", or "You Can Feel Bad".
Vince Gill said that he's not gonna be rerecording Go Rest High on That Mountain with the 3rd verse. He's gonna leave it as is. Good cause I love the song as it is.
For me this video is the truest form of country music. A song with the singer's purist emotions (whether they are happy, sad, angry etc.) and a loving and dedicated community that is filled with respect for the singers. No fancy vocal rifts or flashy productions. This is the country music we need back.
This is definitely one of the most powerful versions of this song. Vince and George had such a close relationship. I must have been unbelievably difficult. The two ladies sitting in the front one is George's wife the other I believe his daughter or granddaughter. Patty loveless is definitely amazing. And she's not just a background singer or something like that. For some reason she doesn't seem to be as well known. But she's got 14 studio albums, four of them went platinum two of them went gold. More than 40 songs on the top charts five of which went number one. If you ever get a chance to visit Nashville Tennessee, that's where the Grand old Opry ryman auditorium is located. The mother church as we call it. There's so much amazing music there. You can go on any weekend night walk down Broadway there's probably 30 bars with live music on Broadway downtown. Most of them you can just walk in sit down have a drink listen to some fantastic live music go to a different one. They all have a slightly different vibe not all of its country music. There is a fantastic blues bar up on Printer Alley. Called the Bourbon Street blues and boogie bar. They have good food too.
George Jones, to me, was the king of country music. Maybe it is bc I was brought up listening to him A LOT. Between him & Merle Haggard, the two men u could always hear blasting from my daddy’s paint and body shop. My brother would try to turn it when we were there helping daddy when we got older. Daddy would tell him that was a dangerous move. Lol.
Vince has written a 3rd verse to this song: "You're safely home in the arms of Jesus / Eternal life, my brother's found / The day will come I know I'll see him / In that sacred place, on that holy ground." My friends and I used to love singing Blame It On Your Heart by Patty Loveless! Could you react to that one?
When Vince voice cracks and he has to let patti take over it kills me. Makes me think of my dad who died in 1992 when I was 16 yrs old. Kills me inside everytime.
Pat, you saw some of the best right there. I believe Vince wrote that song when his brother died, so it has a lot of meaning whenever he sings it. My favorite song by Patty is "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive." If you want to hear a haunting voice from Kentucky, give it a listen. It is pure mountain soul.
Vince started writing the song after his close friend Keith Whitley passed away in 1989 (hence the reference to I'm No Stranger to the Rain), them finished it after his brother died.
Great reaction to a great song/performance. Patty is not just a back up singer. She has a deep catalog of quality songs. Try "How Can I Help You Say Goodbye" or "You Don't Even Know Who I Am."
I was right here shedding tears along with you! I know why I skipped it a month ago....I knew I would get emotional! This was played at my husbands funeral 7yrs ago and the words still get to me! This was absolutely beautiful and heart wrenching at the same time...thanks for this one!
Patty Loveless is no backup singer...I will echo others who have suggested You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive and You Don't Even Know Who I Am. Both so wonderful. There are many others that are also fantastic. Enjoy!
I know that this video is over a year old maybe at the time of this comment. Vince Gill has written a 3rd verse to this song and has sung it at live shows a few times but has never sung it on live tv until a few weeks ago during the Loretta Lynn Grand Ole Opry tribute show. Prior to that Carrie Underwood did her version on a tv show that celebrated the career of Vince gill and did a fantastic job. I would really like to see you react to those at some point in the future.
Thank you for reacting to this. I’m Southern, from the country and older, have been to so many funerals where this song has been played. I cry every time I hear it and no doubt always will. 💙💙💙
I thought they kept his speech in the beginning where he talked about how close they were, and how George sent him a ton of cans of ravioli, because he thought he liked it. Lol And George would call Vince Sweet Pea.
You should the great eulogy Charlie Daniels gave before his performance. That man has a great way with words.. Vince also performed this at Charlie Daniels' memorial service. I watched it live on RU-vid. He made it through that one like a champ, solo.
Great great tribute to George Jones. The emotion was real and raw. Thanks for doing this one! P.S. Pentatonix just released a new cover of Amazing Grace. I think you would like it!
suggestion! react to randy travis "three wooden crosses" and then react to "randy travis tribute cma awards 2016." the tribute was held after randy had a severe stroke and when he comes out at the end, i cry every time. randy is a country legend.
Patty Loveless Hurt me bad in a real good way ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4WBTiTv275k.html also That kind of girl ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-m-HVP01goE4.html
Please do Brandy Clark Remember me Beautiful from the Grand Ole Opry. Absolutely Stunning and Emotional but so True. It cuts deep but also helps remember all those we’ve lost. It’s how i think we all want to be remembered. Smiling facing the Sun
This is rough. Pat, should check out Travis Tritt at Charlie’s service. Travis was going to quit music all together and Charlie made him stay and was forever his rock.
