Femoroacetabular Impingement, more commonly known as hip impingement is a bony issue within the hip socket involving the femur and pelvis. These changes are more commonly seen in athletes and can lead to groin pain, potential labrum and subchondral bone issues.
There are two main types, CAM (changes to the femur, thigh bone) and PINCER (changes to the acetabulum, pelvis). In this video we will go into detail about all of this and best ways to manage this condition, including what role imaging plays and when surgery is recommended.

Hey this is so helpful! Gives me lots of confidence and hopefully I can avoid the surgery. Just have one question: what do u think about the timing of returning to competitive trainings and games? I know this is a very personal thing. But how long would u recommend resting and doing rehab before competitive stuff? Cuz I’ve had a period where I felt the pain was gone, and when I started playing again it comes back. (Btw I wasn’t doing too much rehab back then…so my understanding is probably the injury was heal, but my hip muscle control wasn’t developed) many thanks for your help!

Happy to hear you found it helpful! So with progress I can't give you a time, the best way is just by progressing through all the exercises to physically prepare the hip. Then proceed to any sport specific rehab/exercises. Rest just long enought for recovery/adaptation, sustain rest quickly becomes deconditioning. Just becuase the pain is gone, doesn't mean the tissue is ready to had that load placed on it. Only by do the most advance exercises and not having pain, do you know there has been enough rehab to return. Hope this helps.

So the fix is to avoid the snapping or th pinch ? Can the groin hurt because of it?
@PerformanceSportSpine
@PerformanceSportSpine 4 месяца назад
The fix is to strengthen all the muscles around the hip joint, abductor, adductors, hip flexors and extensors.

Are these exercises for after surgery? I read that some of these should be avoided if suffering from hip impingement such as pivoting and lunges.
@PerformanceSportSpine
@PerformanceSportSpine Год назад
Yes, it is important to wait the appropriate recovery time to let the tissues heal, then start them at the correct level relative to your current state. As for pivoting/lunges both are safe to do, albeit you may have to modify some what. For example, with lunges some people can't go as far down to the floor, so doing a half lunge is an more optimal exercise selection.

What should be the weight progression with those kettlebells for single legged deadlifts?
@PerformanceSportSpine

Typically we recommend increasing by 5 lb increments
