It is very exciting to get your dôgi all the way from Japan… Maybe you are a bit nervous about the fit and can only guess which size is the right one for you?
The best way to find out more is to take the measurements from your actual Karate gi and compare them to the ones of Hirota. In case there is no dôgi at hand, this is the right video for you…
Stefanie Akita is showing you how to measure the different parts of your body and is recommending how much to add to those measurements for the right length of the respective seam.
This video is meant to be a rough guideline, please adjust your measurements according to your personal preferences regarding the length and width of your Karate Gi.
We also recommend to add a little extra in case the dôgi shrinks with the time.

Der nächste Karate Gi soll ein Hirota sein!
Aufregend, so einen in Japan gefertigten dôgi zu bestellen… Vielleicht sind Sie aber auch ein wenig nervös, was den Sitz des Anzugs angeht und können lediglich raten, welche Größe die richtige für Sie ist?
Am besten, man vergleicht die Maße seines aktuellen Karate Gi mit denen von Hirota.
Für den Fall, dass gerade kein Anzug zur Hand ist, ist dies das richtige Video für Sie:
Stefanie Akita zeigt, wie man die verschiedenen Teile seines Körpers misst und empfiehlt, wie viele Zentimeter man hinzurechnen sollte, um die richtige Nahtlänge festzulegen.
Dies ist als grobe Orientierung gedacht und wir würden Sie bitten, die Nahtlängen gemäß Ihrer persönlichen Vorlieben hinsichtlich der Länge und Weite Ihres Anzugs anzupassen.
Ebenfalls sollte man abhängig vom Material ein paar extra Zentimeter hinzufügen, falls der dôgi mit der Zeit einläuft.

Hi, I am training Ju Jutsu and wonder which OZ should I take. 10 or 11 pinack? Or you may have another offer? I don't like thick Judo Gi but should not be very light because of the way we are training. What is it the price for standard no. 5 for kumite with embroidery of my name and high waist pants? How long dose it take to have it in Sweden? Thanks

Hello and many thanks for your comment. I would recommend a thicker material, probably MH-10 or the even thicker - for example #163. Very useful video! I just wonder why it is considered a better way to measure your current dogi than your body. Probably the current dogi is not made according to your actual body and the size might not be optimal. Aren't all the best garments made to measure of your body, not your old standard-sized clothes? Why should dogi be an exception?

Thank you for your interest and comment. We do think it is the best to take the measurements from the Karate gi that you have at home and make adjustments wherever necessary. This is because you already know how it feels wearing that dōgi and you also know where you would like to alter it according to your wishes.

Hi, thanks for your video. Is there a big difference between Size 6.5 and 7 in Hirota Pinack? I have bought a size 7 and it seemed to be a little bit bigger even after washing. What is your recommendation how can I make it more suitable? Really appreciate your reply oss.

Hi and thank you for your interest. I think there is noticeable difference between those two sizes. If you are considering having it altered at a tailor's shop, please wait a little while. Often it is just a matter of not being used to the new Karate gi and it could feel "normal" after a certain time. I would not try to make the dōgi smaller by washing it at a high temperature: On the one hand, it is not possible to control the outcome, on the other it could damage the material. I hope you will be happy with your new Karate gi even though it is a bigger size.

Hello! What a great video. And I hope I will found what size I should get.I am long and small - 190 cm and weights about 70 kg only, and have long legs - size 36! And also very long arms, so I allways have difficulties finding jackets and jeans, that fits me! Thank you for this, and if you have any advice for a beginner please do. I have only been on 3 Shotokan pass so far, and now it's time for my first GI 🙂 Ozu!!

Well the Sensei told me it doesent matter if it's short. Hers pants end efter the knees pretty much! Well thanks again, and happy I found this place! Ozu 👑
