RDR2 is (perhaps intentionally) vague about the geography of its alternate universe vis-a-vis the real life USA. New Austin is obviously supposed to be a stand-in for Texas, but Texas itself is mentioned in-universe as well, for instance.
@@jamesanthony8438 To be fair u also getting paid more than historical prices on some activities like fishing or selling tanned hides but I agree the entire economy is ridiculous and mostly random
@XxxTHAT GRUxxx Yes, but down the road, not in the beginning. Each ability card is $50, +$250 for first upgrade, +$500 for second upgrade. Every weapon (w exception of the carbine repeater, cattleman, and for those of us w the ultimate edition the volcanic, varmint, and pump-action) all have to be purchased at inflated rates from story mode. It would be really helpful if we could at least sell our horses, and the ability to break wild horses and sell them. The inability in RDO makes literally zero sense. They could make it so player owned horses can only be sold by the owner and not griefers if that's what the excuse is. Bring in the stagecoach fence so we can make a bit off stagecoaches we find in the world. How many ppl, back then and now, just discard horses? In the beginning when ur bldg up ur character, grinding out the roles, and upgrading horses as u go, there is no reason other than forcing u to purchase gold bars, or spend countless hrs grinding for gold at around 0.3 gold bars, or less, each time, and grinding for cash. This was all far worse before the roles came out bc the only way to earn money and gold was free-roam events, fishing & hunting then selling the carcasses, and doing stranger missions that don't pay much in retrospect when u look at the cost of things in-game. Thankfully I have the Ultimate Edition, and didn't start playing online until this past February, after all 4 roles were out. I've also linked our Amazon Prime account to get those bonuses, and I did have the Outlaw Pass 2. I can't figure out why OP3 isn't out. It wouldn't take much on R*s end, but would give players something to play for.
If you pause and read the ad for the electric belt it’s pretty funny and to be honest sounds almost word for word what you would hear in a tv infomercial today 🤣.
Its gotta be some strong coffee...but for what our characters does day to day it's no wonder why they drink it black. But the after taste must be something. I wonder how those health tonics taste
Ha! Thanks Ben. The money came from the trader role... doing long distance trading runs, protected by friends, then protecting their trade runs. Doing this back-to-back. Hope that helps!
Oof. I see what you're talking about looking at the videos on your account right now vs. what I've viewed already. Don't let it demoralize you, as an American living abroad who is both studying history at university and loves RDR2 your content has become a favorite of mine.
I've just watched every single video you have made. To be honest I could sit and watch these all day. Truly historically fascinating, awesome content. Keep it coming cowpoke
I have a reproduction of a 1908 Sears catalog. It is hilarious to see what $100 would buy you back then. An assignment I give my students is giving them $500 and telling them to start/stock a store that sells... whatever they want really, it's the Sears catalog. They had Stradivarius violins for $8!
to be fair the stew pot also comes with an infinite amount of cutlery and dishes that you just throw on the floor once you're done eating... I'm sure those were also very expensive
The ammo is high for the time, must be an extra pricey round. Most ammo is closer to red dead prices or cheaper. Which adjusted for inflation is still a lot more than it costs these days.
I was wondering what’s going on with the videos? RU-vid sucks at this kind of stuff, also you should make more pirate videos, I have an idea. You can make a video game accuracy series like Sea of Thieves the game and also RDR2 I feel this would be a great series and even better to get your channel out there
Thanks Alex. Yeah man, it kills me to pull down videos with 20k views, but at this stage I'm at a loss trying to pinpoint what the problem is. I had a guy on Reddit that looked through the vids and suggested that the firearm video was triggering some sort of red flag with the reviewing bot, even though it wasn't violating anything. So I pulled it, resubmitted the channel for approval, but was still denied. So now I suppose I'll repost it. Just a shame. I'd happily tackle all sorts of games- particularly those on pirates, as it's one of the areas of history in which I'm most qualified. I used to teach a college course called 'The Golden Age of Piracy' about all the famous pirates of the early 18th century. Loved it. Appreciate the suggestions, and the support Alex. Just trying to get this thing off the ground and I keep getting stifled.
I’ve already seen this video but you’ve obviously re-uploaded it. Nonetheless, I love this type of content. I don’t know if you strictly cover American history but I’d love to see you dive into Kingdom Come: Deliverance, set in Bohemia (modern day Czech Republic).Good job m8.
This is one of my favorite channels to watch when I want to relax before bed. Where do you get all the information you have? Is any of it online, or do you have to have the actual books?
It'd be a lot more interesting if you just did this for Red Dead 2 as opposed to online, I feel like the prices would be a lot closer since they're not being marked up for online sale
Thanks Jesse, I was thinking about doing a video to show people a bit more (if they were interested), as this used to just be an old shed that I renovated into a detached office.
Man vs. History Yeah it’d be really interesting man, you got great style. Keep up the good work. I look forward to your future videos. History was my favorite subject in school and I love what you’re doing.
hey man. i know you won’t read this, but i just want you to know that i’m actually learning cool information constantly from your videos wether it’s lifestyle or just prices. i hope you continue to do videos like these and expand into many different games. it’s really cool content.
I try to read every comment, Swollen, and when able, respond. Glad to hear that you're learning and enjoying the vids in the process. Thanks for the support!
Yeah, just a shame. Was really hoping to invest in the production of the channel so I don't have to keep using my phone and no mic :) Some others suggested I set up a Patreon to help get me there, so I may do so.
@@ManvsHistory if you do, definitely plan on joining, I support your videos heavily due to the atmosphere in each video, also i would imagine you being a professor or teach or what not, you explain things really calmly and methodically, really want this channel to blow up
I really appreciate and like your content 👏👏👏👍 but there is one thing i want to ask: could you please make the voiceline or the overall volume a little louder? 😅 I often watch them (your videos) on my smartphone and the "wild animals" in my neighborhood are sometimes so loud, it's hard for me to listen to you. Thank you for all the work you've put in and keep it up 👍✌
All I can think up is that they want people spend time playing. If everything was historically accurate priced then it would take one or two 4h sittings to get every in-game item. The cash you get from missions(regular Stranger missions) is near accurate what the pay would have been back in the day. I could obviously be wrong.
While your logic is viable, and I would love it for that to be the real reason, the truth is that it's to promote the use of buying currency with real money. They want you to find the grind very boring here and there so you spend some bucks along the way. They nerfed a ton of paying missions for this purpose and inflated the hell out of many things
Oh dude those leather wrist guards are in the outlaw pass i have em i cant remember the pass (12or3) but they are coming out with a trader outlaw pass so get some gold saved up n check if they have some keep an eye out
Bro...rockstar needs to see how bad their game is in 2020, like save your game and add realistic prices. Like you got this great man with passion of history like take this video and fix your prices, this channel is so underrated like where tf are your subs and views. Pump a video out every week, like come on you got good content.
Damn it’s a shame that you don’t get the recognition that you should!obviously you put a lot of work into this but no,RU-vid likes views and makeup tutorials and unboxing vids rather than an online fun history lesson
Okay I'm glad I decided to watch this video cuz for a second I thought I was in a Mandela effect I could have sworn you had a lot more videos XD lmfao LOVE THE VIDEOS MAN !!!!! I LIVE IN THIS GAME XD
What Rockstar should do is make the amount of money from jobs a lot less (especially traded role) that way they can make the prices historically accurate.
So what you're telling us is that RockStar researches _everything_ in their games _except_ for the prices of what their NPCs sell to you. Understandable since it was developed in San Diego. Everything in that state's over-taxed and regulated beyond all common sensibilities. These probably seemed like 'good prices' to them. =)
My best guess as to why Google doesn't like your videos: You're talking, among other things, about guns. At the height of the "Adpocalypse" videos were demonetised for mentioning the word "weapon". RU-vid is more lenient with it's bigger channels now, but I guess they want to be sure with the smaller ones like yours. It could also be talking about violent themes in general, like hunting or wars. But I'm not sure about that.
Hello old friend! Yeah, that's why I pulled the firearm video, thinking that must be the issue. But no luck. I'm now wondering if it's the Buffalo video, as I talk about firearms, hunting, etc.?
@@ManvsHistory Probably that, as it has some graphic descriptions and "hunting" in the title. Or maybe some older video, like the one about Napoleon's retreat, or others with "pirate" in the title, where maybe RU-vid's overprotective measures thought of it as "to pirate" and flagged that because a lot of piracy-tutorials would probably have "How to pirate X" in the title. Or (and again, not an expert or anything, so I don't know whether that actually happen anymore): maybe your channel as a whole has been flagged as being unsuitable. I can't remember which one, but I think one German RU-vidr had that problem where he could upload anything with any title and it would be demonetised instantly until it was reviewed manually.
@@TheHeavyshadow Those are solid ideas. I deleted most the older vids, but I can see the potential issues you're talking about. Perhaps the 'hunting' is flagging things. And the 'pirate' one as well. I'll have to come up with some lame alternative titles for these... 'The Worst Vessel Bandit of All-Time' smh.
Just goes to show you why, even for honorable players, falling into this life of an outlaw on the RDR2 frontier, gets the best of a person. Man or woman, you've got to have a stew pot, shovel,...hammer..... On the bright side, Ammo is fairly affordable.😂
Sir can you look into what some of the charters are based on and a general hunting comparison. Because I've read some hunter journals and books of the period but maybe you have a better source. Your freind, -Jake
Also can you do a video about the wapti reservation Ik there based on the Lakota and I think the massacre of wounded knee happend in 1899 but I'm not sure
Personally I would much rather RDR2 and RDRonline to be more historical accurate with money in general honestly it just seems bleating running around with thousands of dollars during that time period I would rather run around with a few hundred and have cheaper more accurately priced items
@@yamohall It's all good, man! Admittedly, even I was like, 'Wait a minute! Am I way off here? I better go back and do the math.' Glad you're enjoying the vids! Thanks for reaching out!
And we are outlaws, the prices are very high Imagine the poor miners trying to buy a sweater in Annesburg. Guy would pretty much have to wait 2 months minimum (Assuming a miner gets paid about 5$ a week) to buy a sweater. Nice one Rockstar.
Hey Nickward, this has been pitched several times, but I think would better be handled by an expert in this field. Appreciate the recommendation nonetheless!
Do you think your Adsense issue has to do with speaking about money? As in, YT is seeing these comparisons as an ad of sorts and that's somehow in violation? I have no idea if that has any bearing on the situation, just a thought.
I'm just gonna assume everything is for balance reason... *coughs* they want your money *coughs* Also plus it's a game.. So yeah. (Still good to make fun of Rockstar tho lol)
Lmfaooo Rockstar worldbuilding and inflated tax prices are too scary for an average survivor in the wilderness, that’s a cruel world to live in!!!$$$ Now I understand why Arthur & Dutch’s gang rely on thievery and pillaging. I’m guessing, Cornwall main antagonist represents Rockstar & Take2 at its finest. And Micah Bell - well that’s the hateful griefer 😹😂🤣😅
