So far this has been a really brilliant series, I love the way this lady explains things, she makes history make sense and connect together so seamlessly. Why isn't she teaching at Yale? I'm only 14 minutes into this particular lecture, but I felt compelled to say that the Church's hatred of magic had a lot less to do with wanting to be the sole power over the supernatural, and more to do with being direct witnesses through missions and whatnot of how magic degrades society and cultures.

I really wish you would stop saying Augustine was reading Plato... Augustine didn't know word one of Greek. He was reading Cicero primarily and maybe some Plotinus in Latin translation. His Platonism was highly filtered.
