The history of Marcus Aurelius is rich and lined with lessons learned and troubles overcome. He would lose his father at the age of three and be adopted by one of the most powerful men in Rome. He waged war, lost loved ones, owned slaves, and persecuted Christians. He would be betrayed, lied to, and immortalized. He quietly would right down his lessons learned and strive to wake up the next day and live a little better than the last. He left behind his meditations for us which have elevated him to a level of fame to surpass all the Roman emperors but Julius Caesar himself. Hope you enjoy the History of Marcus Aurelius Antoninus.

Excellent video! Although Marcus Aurelius was not perfect, I think that his study of Stoicism made him a better person than he otherwise would have been, which reminds me of a great quote from Franklin's autobiography: "On the whole, though I never arrived at the perfection I had been so ambitious of obtaining, but fell far short of it, yet as I was, by the endeavor, a better and a happier man than I otherwise should have been had I not attempted it."

I like that quote by Franklin as well. I think it applies to most of us out there. We are not going to be perfect but trying to live better every day is fair goal to set. Just finished Bacon's Essays and you are right... scratching my head wondering how to make a video out of them. haha. We will see what happens. Looking forward to the New Atlantis next. Hope all has been well buddy!

Yes indeed! I wish more of my friends would be interested but most are not. I find myself in a happy medium of loving to sit in the house and read but then also go out and hunt, run and garden. Truly happy to have you on the journey and hope you are enjoying this series. I have Bacon’s Essays being released Friday. That was a good read. Stay blessed my friend and have a great week!

I first read this book in my early 20’s and reread it several times. I gain something new about practical logic and reason with each visit. As an homage to Emp Marcus Aurelius work, I based my first book’s title on it - Meditations for Modern Man: wisdom from your father.

I would suggest ,if youre going to try to learn history, dont just accept catholic sources. Go with the historians of the period. Its not a good idea to get most of your information from people who idolize the figure.

You may have misunderstood this series of books I am reviewing a bit. This is a review on one of the books in the Harvard Classics. I add a bit more than what is in the book but all I am doing is just reviewing the book that was written by George Long. Luckily in the Harvard classics we will dive into the writers and historians of the time period as you suggested in later volumes. Hopefully in those videos we can dive further down different sources of history. Again, I truly appreciate your ideas and thanks so much for watching. Stay blessed my friend!

If you learn history without taking into account Catholic sources you have basically nothing to go on. Also, as if Roman sources were so much better or any other ones for that matter. Just say you have an irrational hate for Christianity and be done with it.

Stoicism, one of the many ridiculous ideologies. Its funny because their actions prove their ideology isnt accurate but that didnt seem to bother them.
@The_Cause

I think Marcus Aurelius was a better stoic in his "meditations" than in his actual life. It’s easier to be stoic when you have no power or resources but hard for someone like him. Did it make him a better emperor? Idk he was much better than some like Nero. Good point though.

What utter nonsense, do you even understand the difference between philosophy and ideology? One is an individual pursuit while the latter is the one you seem to be wrapped up in; collective mental illness.
