Pokemon Competitive Singles has seen a big shakeup with the release of Gen 9's new DLC. Hisuian Arcanine has seen huge success in the VGC Doubles format, but in Single it quickly fell to UU following its release with HOME compatibility.
However, the player Savouras has revisited Hisuian Arcanine in the new Post-DLC Metagame, and found it to be quite successful.
Why is Hisuian Arcanine seeing decent results now? Let's take a look gamers.

But famous player Jim Cool is well aware of the Best Hisuian Arcanine Moveset in Competitive, and even how to Hisuian Arcanine Shiny Farm. Many aren't and never will be. That's just the unfortunate reality of the world.

Gen 9 Competitive Pokemon wouldn't be the same without this powerful pink blob. He kinda looks like someone I met in one of my game design and development courses.
Gen 9 Pokemon Showdown is one of the greatest online gaming sites in history. From Pikachu and Charizard, to Palafin and Roaring Moon, The new Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, have introduced a lot of new faces. Can I succeed in one of the best android games of all time? If so, I'm gonna get myself a Walmart bakery Pokemon cake to celebrate.
Gholdengo is a Pokemon made of pure gold. He must have done some online business management courses to accumulate all that wealth. Or perhaps he might want to learn how to make money playing video games on RU-vid. In any case, he's a powerful metagame force, with absolutely no interest in online game development schools.

Having Archeops in the server room would cause Iron Mugulus signature Half Full to turn into Half Empty, turning it into a dark type move rather than its original water typing, which is ineffective against the server pre gen 6 steel typing.

Yeah, I always play doubles and it is so weird hearing Jimothy having to explaim to singles players why Iron Hands and Fake Out are good. Seems so obvious (but wasn't back when I used to play singles)

@@priceprice_baby To be fair fake out was only used for megas (and mostly to get the mega safely). Kinda like how stealth rock just isn't a thing in doubles and you would probably have a small explanation of why it is as game defining in singles. Iron hands being THE 1v1 god is well known for those who suffered with it before dlc's/home.

Gamefreak has been very reluctant with dual Rock type Pokemon, you can notice that in most gens they relegate it to fossils or slow walls that have 4x Water Resistances, until Hisuian Arcanine

And even then the relatively good stats of Hisuian Arcanine are more that Arcanine are based off of decayed komainu statues (of which the horns fall off or weather first) meaning that Hisuian Arcanine is an excuse to slap the Rock type on it, have it be meaningful, and still have great stats and abilities since variants have similar stats. Hisuian Arcanine is lucky that it turned out so good. It could have been based off of a glacier that may have been collecting rocks and doomed to a slow Ice-type wall but with the Rock type. Tyranitar is also more of a stroke of luck that with the Rock type that Tyranitar could look intimidating and like Godzilla. Terrakion was also coincidentally a Rock type, I would assume. Nihilego is supposed to be weird so it has better stats and it still isn’t that great even in the tiers it lands in. Glimmora has the same typing as Nihilego except it is a suicide lead, so it works for the same reasons that Froslass can work, and even better is that it can fight back with a special moveset too, so it very literally is a Paldean Froslass in terms of roles. That means that Rock-type is like Ice-type: there are no good Rock-types save Tyranitar, just Pokémon with the Rock type that are good. They also need overtuned stats and abilities and maybe moves to reach the heights of other Pokémon typings, though at least it has some resistances.

I think the reason is that rock types are in a similar place to ice - good offensive attributes with a lot of weaknesses, but due to the natural hardness of rock/ice GF is inclined to design more walls and tanks then speedy threats. I think fossils get to be the exception because their rock typing is meant to be more thematic. At least in Gen 1 having a resistance to normal was extremely valuable defensively, but nowadays normal types are rare in competitive and steel types perform the role of defensive normal resist better.

This is disastrous...I was wondering too why I couldn't save my replays anymore, and then _this_ hit me. Oh man, now I will never be able to show anybody how my Machamp kept landing Ice Punch freezes consecutively after Bulking Up 4 times thanks to a Dusknoir spamming Shadow Sneak for some reason and then just critting and demolishing the rest of the team

Fire/Rock was never a bad type, it was just on Magcargo, a Pokemon whose statline is completely incompatible with the typing's strengths.

Its just an awful defensive type in general. Ice/rock but traded the steel weakness to water. But still being a horrendous defensive typing doesnt mean everything if your stab combination is just excellent (rock/flying)

@goGothitaLOL it does have *some* defensive utility, specifically on an offensively minded pivot. Immune to burn, resists U-turn, resists Fairy, gets a SpD buff in Sandstorm, etc. In VGC it also resists Fake Out and Explosion, which are nice bonuses. The reason you want to get it in though is because nothing is immune to Rock STAB and the best Rock resist, Steel, is immolated by Fire STAB (Ground and Fighting also don't resist Fire and traditionally hate burn too). In modern times Fire STAB also means access to Will-o-Wisp, which can neuter most physical attackers... if you're fast enough to pull it off. H-Arc sits in that sweet spot of fast and offensive enough to threaten with its STABs or Wisp, and not instantly crumple to anything but the expected Water and Ground moves. Contrast Macgargo which was speed-tying Snorlax and had the offenses of a wet noodle. H-Arc is what a Fire/Rock type always should have been.

fake out works with future sight too. you can chilly out to hands after future sight and then iron hands can fakeout something thats trying to uturn out/trade down only for them to get stuck in place and take the future sight

I disagree with the notion that Fire/Rock is one of the worst type combos in singles. Sure, it’s very defensively poor, but offensively it’s actually really good, and Hisuian Arcanine has the tools to take advantage of those offensive advantages unlike something like Magcargo which just gets one shot. It’s part of why why Hisuian Arcanine is UU and a tier above the Kantonian form, rather than something like NU (which is where would be despite its decent stats if it were something like Bug/Flying, which is weak both offensively and defensively)

You'd think a Fire/Rock type, one of the worst type combinations defensively, would not do too well. Then again, one of Gen 9's biggest boons to the Rock and Ice types was to become a type other than Rock or Ice while keeping STAB on their Rock and Ice moves.

after watching this ive built a team with band ceruledge, av volcanion, specs thunderus therian, corv, alomomola and tera blast dark av magnezone. personally prefer ceruledge to arcanine its got a much better defensive typing especially w flash fire, poltergeist is more accurate and spammable than head smash, but the idea is the same and it seems to work nicely. i think trapping gholdengo is kinda necessary hence the magnezone, yes this team threatens ghold but a bad lead matchup can lead to hazards going up and a ghold sack can keep up momentum

kind of sucks about all the replays being gone, but everything happens for some reason or another. The good thing is we still have Showdown and we can make new replays.
