*Soak the wet clutch in oil for 1 hour* In this video we will show you the steps to take when replacing your wet clutch in the Hisun 500 or 700 machine. this procedure is also the same on the 550 and 750 model unit.
JUst the video I needed before tearing into my Front Runner 500!I spent 10 years as a professional Honda m/c mechanic (30 years ago...) but it's always good to know the tricks. Thanks!
The nut has a flat kind of collar on it. The collar is beaten into a groove on the crankshaft. Take an old flat blade screw driver and slowly work it under the collar. You can tap it under with a hammer, but don't just start beating away.
Hey, thanks for the video. It really helped me out. It’s nice that there are still some old school useful videos. Most of the stuff now is cringe shit.
Any information on which bolts go where when putting back together? 😢 Hind sight is 20/20! Having trouble with the ones on the outer edges on the inside cover...
I just changed my oil in a 450 Grizzly. I took it out for a 1/4 mile ride. I then realized I used auto synthetic. What should I do now? Can I just change the oil with Yamalube, or do I need to flush it.
@BoostedRide ok, thanks. That's what Im going to do. Just bought the supplies. I just learned that buying your supplies from a dealer can be a good thing. today, this knowledgeable parts guy gave me some excellent advice. Ill be using them again. 🙂
Do you happen to have a video of how this UTV was acting up which led to this repair? I have similar UTV that seems to be revving too high at lower speeds and takes a long time to get to full speed. Belt has been replaced and cleaned primary. It has less than 300 miles on it and less that 50hrs. Idk what kind of oil previous owner put in it and was thinking if he changed the oil he may have put regular oil and not the wet clutch safe oil in it? I would guess if regular motor oil was put in it , that it may cause some clutch issues. I wish I could describe it better but to me its just revving too high at take off and seems to "feel" like a weak coil pack on a car or truck....kinda in & out sounding and grabbing good.
The nut is really hard to get off of the clutch. Ruined mine trying before buying a battery powered impact gun from home depot. I bought the biggest they had, glad I did. It didn't come right off. Had to work at it.
Have a question about removing the wet clutch. Are the threads reversed on the nut that holds the clutch to the crank? I'm trying to remove the clutch but am having trouble getting the nut off. Thank you.
Excellent video-exactly what I needed before making the attempt to fix my Front Runner 500. My problem started when my secondary clutch wouldn’t come off even after removing everything you suggested. It lacks nearly a ½ inch to clear. So I decided what the heck I’m this far might as well loosen the inner cover and try working around it since it is flexible. Worked great right up until the part on the wet clutch jam nut wouldn’t pry up because it was hammered in to tight. When all else fails use force right?-wrong-now the jam nut is nearly striped and I quit before I start destroying things with a hammer. The video is still fantastic it’s just my jobs never go by the book.
@boostedride Hey, I'm following all your steps but when I removed all the 8 mm bolts and got to the clutch cover housing I pulled on the shaft and it seems to not want to come off any ideas, it seems like it's hitting something, thanks.
Still await ing some info..finally started to drive this utv and it doesnt hardly go when I hit the gas..it does get up to speed after awhile..will an oil change help?..I figure I need to look at what this video shows? ?
@@jaytodd5809 I know this is a long time after you asked, but if it has to rev up a bit before it starts going, that's a pretty good sign that the wet clutch is going bad.
Hi there can anyone advise me on after I slide on clutch drum it meets up to the motor but when I nip up the bolts the shaft won’t rotate just seems to be like 1 mm that buggers me up. Thank.
Just done this wet clutch replacement and did as you said to put the wording facing inwards when installing in the bell housing. Checked it and spun counterclockwise by hand and not clockwise. Got the machine fired up and it'll go in reverse but needs a boot full of revs to go forward and is kicking and bucking to get into gear. Did I install the one way bearing wrong?
I have watched your video many times and it is very helpful , I have a linhai 2019 550 t-boss and need to service or replace the clutch. My problem is getting the right parts. the parts list does not show the one way bearing or a number for it. Does it come with clutch kit? some say it is the same as the hisun or massimo but not sure- can you help me.
Hi I am enjoying your videos I am interested in purchasing an extension for the dipstick in a early 550 hisun utv . can I have one sent to me in New Zealand and how much will it cost? Dave
so you dont use oil with a clutch additive like for motorcycles and atvs? is that correct?i always used valvaline 4 stroke with clutch additives in my atv, just want to make sure before i get oil for my massimo which it needs.
You have an engine harness and a main harness. Hard to say a time. Lot of zip ties and some panels to remove. Engine harness maybe 2 to 3 hours first time user. Main would take a few more making it from front to back
Saludos soy de Venezuela soy mecánico de estos utilitarios no consigo estos repuestos aquí algún nmro para comunicarme con algún proveedor se los agradecería para solucionar los daños gracias...
Great video. Any tips on replacing the main shaft on the secondary. Mine snapped while replacing the clutch. Not sure what's behind the seal. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Do you recommend changing the belt along with wet clutch? I purchased my ys700 used from a salvage yard and it was used heavily to get around for pulling parts from vehicles on yard. My dad has a bennche 500 and his clutch engages right away and mine revs higher before it grabs and i can feel it engage slower than it should. After engagement it works fine and can reach near 50mph. Also previous owner used straight 30wt oil and i probably did not help as i am using Rotella 5w40 synthetic. I will be switching to Rotella 15w40 non synthetic after clutch.
How realistic is it for a novice/newbee to do this repair ? My clutch has the worn down pad problem it seems . Makes a metal grinding noise when accelerating. The stick shift is very difficult to shift and the vehicle doesn’t really move anymore when accelerating. I opened up the outer clutch cover and and when I accelerate in neutral you can see metal dust coming out. Do you think this is a doable repair for someone without experience ?
If you follow the video it should be pretty straight forward. An impact is not necessary but will make all the difference on the large clutch nuts. Remember to soak the new clutch for an hour before install and always run an oil that is approved for wet clutches. (JASO spec)
@@glennjordi9651 most any "atv" oil on the back has the rating "jaso". You need the same oil as a 2006 yamaha rhino. Soak the entire clutch so the oil can soak into the pad material. Hope this helps
I believe I have the issue with the rollers under the cam in the primary clutch that you mentioned. The cam plate isn't seating far enough down in the primary clutch to let it seat on the splines. Do I need to crack the primary clutch open to line everything back up?
Torque specs are at the end of the video. Tusk makes a universal clutch holding tool. Most people carefully wedge a board or something against the clutch but you had to be careful to not bust anything obviously
I`m having trouble with my Massimo side x side jumping out of gear going down hill low and high gear it makes a racket too would that be in the clutch? anybody. Thanks
I'm confused, you say to make sure the one way bearing will turn freely counter clockwise, but the manual states it should turn freely clockwise. Which is correct?
Is there a engine brake on these machines. I have a hisun sector 550 and whatever holds the engine back free wheels and then it will engage and hold back and then release and hold back again and will continue to do this when going down a hill. My machine only has 475 miles .
Wet Clutch and Primary changed out and didn't see any issues with the secondary. Great improvement! However my reverse is not working still, at times it grinds and feels like it wants to go. Any suggestions?
Adjust the shifter. Sometimes for reverse and low you need to keep pressure on the shifter (pulling back for reverse) and give a little throttle to ensure it engages.
@@BoostedRide did that, prior and after changing the clutch out. Shifts but grinds and will not move in reverse, have no issues with high and low. I have a video I can send you of what it's doing.
What symptoms would lead you to replace the clutch? Have a Massimo MSU 500 that is almost impossible to change gear and thinking it might be a clutch issue. If I take off the cover and run the engine, what should I expect to see? Thanks for making such an amazing how to video!
Did you ever figure yours out mine is doing the same thing you have to kill it to change gears just wondering what you did I am thinking the same thing the wet clutch
@@stephencameron5291 So I ended up doing a full wet clutch rebuild but the problem I had with shifting gears was that the fan gears at the gear shifter linkage were rusted and binding together. Also the little bushing on the fan gear that moves the actual shifter on the gear box was trashed and so it was misaligning when I was trying to change gears. Swapped it all out and it shifts good as new!
If you search on RU-vid for Massimo MSU 500 fan gear replacement or hard to shift, there's a great little video someone did that'll show you exactly what I'm talking about.
We did soak it there is a card in the upper right of the video stating this should be done as well since we didn't mention it. This is a wet clutch video not a secondary clutch video. And besides you must be talking about the primary or drive clutch with the rollers and grease not the secondary.
Do you recommend soaking the clutch in oil before installing? Not sure about synthetic oil not being good as synthetic oil is simply a higher quality oil. I guess it makes sense it would need a lower quality oil. Machines are picky about fluids. I will NOT use synthetic on my new clutch.
Biggest issue is driving in high range when you should be in low. 25mph or less (around the farm housework) roads use low. Let the motor rpm. Also people push the rated limits of load capacity. Hope this helps
So I guess many people make the biggest mistake by not reading their owner's manual as this information is detailed in there. Now from what I understand and if I am correct, about these UTVs is that the same engine oil also serves as transmission fluid and we should be diligent about changing the oil at recommended intervals. Would you recommend using a synthetic oil?
Yes same oil used in the engine is in the transmission cavity. A lot of people around here do neglect oil changes. We run cam2 15w40 or rotella t 15 40. We do not run synthetic oils. Never seem to have much luck
Now You would think that synthetic oils would work better in this scenario as they claim that it exceeds oil viscosity! So I guess the rule of thumb here with UTVs is that synthetic oils is a BIG NO-NO!
This answer does not make sense ...I read and reread It is ambiguous/contadictory. Problem caused by "driving in high range when you should be in low" Okay THAT seems logical! But THEN it seems to be instructing when driving "25mph or LESS....use HIGH??" You meant "25mph or MORE use LOW" ...yes??? Being reckless with words can really do a lot of harm....not to mention frustration trying to understand
