G'day G'day,
This weeks video is a little different to the usual. Been in the shed doing a few things to the camper trailer. As seen in the previous video we had some concerns about the hitch being up to the task. After a few stories of polyblocks actually disintegrating we decided to spend the money and get one of these Cruisemaster DO35's. So this video is about the unit and running thru the pretty basic install. Hope it helps someone out and show that with just a few spinning of spanners and ratchets they too can undertake this upgrade at home. cheers.

Great video, Thankyou. Just removed the poly block from my camper and did the same as you. DO35 hitch.

Cheers Mike. Shouldn't have any troubles and tow anywhere without any reservations of failure.

Good looking hitch . As far as the poly block goes , if it’s not the Australian made treg hitch then it will fail. I travelled about 120,000 klms in my first coromal off road van fitted with a Treg hitch , had no problems. Now on my second off road coromal with same type of hitch, there just so simple and fail safe .

Interesting mate, so glad I upgraded the hitch when buying the Simpson X

Thanks for tuning in. Definitely a good option. Even since this video I've come accross a couple more instances of the blocks failing and falling to peices on people.

Good video mate. I’ve been considering changing the old towball to something a bit more off roady and it’s good to know that this one is a fairly easy swap over and seems a good setup too. Cheers for showing us.

Thanks. I’ll give it a try. The treg hitch is a bastard for trying to line it up. Is there any special reason you replaced the handbrake as well?
@TimRumble
@TimRumble 3 года назад
No worries mate. No particular reason for the handbrake change. In hindsight I should have left it and just bought the hitch only. Looks alot better but apart from that. Pretty unnecessary.

Do you need more tongue weight on the trailer so the truck won't bounce?
@TimRumble
@TimRumble 3 года назад
Possibly mate. I'm not too sure. Some people have said it's just the suspension in the trailer. I will investigate soon with Lovells Suspension. They make the upgrade kits for them. The tongue weight it apparently 90kg. So that's not much really.

A year and a half later but if you wanna use your handle just chuck some washers between the handle and the hitch
@TimRumble

Haha all good mate. Havn't bothered with it. Still pretty easy to manoeuvre manually. Gets a bit tough when loaded and on grass or dirt. But nice flat solid ground... no problems.

How's the heavy bag go tied up against ceiling? Been thinking about it for mine but was concerned about the weight on the strap at the bottom of the bag.

G'day mark. Yeah these are pretty good mate. We've been travelling around Australia now for about 7 months and when you meet other people and check out their gear. 9 times out of 10 they all run these hitches. For us it hasn't failed us at all. The few times we've been offroad it has rotated and turned while the vehicle and trailer articulated and just seems to work well.

I had one for years on the old trailer and only problem was when on sand or mud when you can't move the trailer it was a real bastard to line up for the pin.

@@utubeozpat yeah mate... I've actually had that exact thought run through my head and wondered how we'd go. Will definitely be testing it out at some point this summer. Havn't done a propper beach camp with it yet but plan to this summer. Be a good tester.
