Thanks for adding this -found it very informative - there does seem a need for all radiators to have hive valves o get the best out of the idea. Contemplating just that for black Friday - price via british gas -the more you buy the more you save

I have radiators upstairs and downstairs. The question I have is whether I can run them on an independent schedule such as don't turn on bedroom radiators till 9PM while keeping the downstairs radiator on from 5PM? Also, don't turn on the downstairs radiators say till 7AM, and switch on only upstairs?

Hi there. Yes you can set each radiator TRV with a separate schedule. I do this so each bedroom has a TRV with different schedules, then my downstairs living room with another schedule. Each one is independent. Hope that helps! Stay subscribed as more on Hive TRV and automation coming soon

Hi Andy great to see a hive trv review but obviously you didn’t really research these before filming. I have the hive TRVs on every radiator in my house other than the one bypass in the hallway. If you watch out the hive TRVs can be had for as little as £25 each sometimes which is less than the bluetooth one you mentioned in your review. Hive dont recommmed using HOD if you only have a few hive TRVs in your home. They only recommend you use it when all or the majority if your radiators have them installed. There’s also other benefits of the hive TRVs over the bluetooth one that you never mentioned such as being constantly connected which allows remote alteration of the hive TRV schedule/operation via the hive app anywhere in the world. Using them as part of “actions”. So if you have other hive kit such as a door sensor you can set an action that when a door is opened in let’s say your spare room it can turn that radiator on for a set time duration etc.. there’s loads of possibilities. All these benefits alone make the hive TRVs the better option over the bluetooth one. If you have any questions about the TRVs let me know?

How many TRVs do you have? Are they calibrated and are you using heat on demand mode?

Ryan, quick question regarding the response time of these eTRVS....I currently have some Energenie ones in my house but they only respond to commands every 5 minutes which can feel a bit slow...do you know if the Hive ones respond quicker than this?
@rfitzpatrick32
@rfitzpatrick32 3 года назад
@@jonj488 Hi, the hive TRVs can take upto 5 minutes to respond too but are usually much quicker. I just boosted the heating in a room today and heard the hive trv opening the valve a few minutes later. It will take 5 minutes for the boiler heat to be called for. This is to ensure the valve has opened before the heating begins.

@@rfitzpatrick32 Great, thanks for the reply. After reading some threads on the Hive forums I decided not to bother in the end. It seems that the only reliable eTRVs are Bluetooth ones (this is because the schedule is stored on the unit itself rather than relying on a gateway to send a signal). I'm now using Bluetooth ones to replace my Energenie ones because their servers had loads of problems over Christmas and I ended up with radiators not coming on at all! 😡 Bluetooth ones aren't compatible with Alexa etc but I found the amount of times I ever asked for my eTRVs to open/close was only ever if the Energenie gateway had messed up and not sent the command. Now I just have set schedules (which I can edit from my phone still) and my house is warm once more!

Hi there, the concept is excellent, however, they don't do as it says on the box... I have bought 3 but have not gone round of fitting them for months. Then my daughter decided to install hers in her room because she said she wanted her room to be warmer for longer... so she's done it and seemed that everything was going well but then her radiator was constantly on regardless of her settings. She changed the temperature to 17⁰. The radiator was still getting hot.. we then turn it off completely but it made no difference. After few weeks battling with it, I've noticed in the app that it needed calibrating. We started the calibration which according to the app it would take about 4 hours as long as the heating is on during the process... disappointing, I was calibrating for months because my daughter gave up and I'mmore stubborn. To my disappointment, when I installed the other 2 the problems seem to be even worse.. they just don't calibrating but this time the radiators are off and the rooms cold.... Why don't they calibrating, these things are meant to be making our lives easier not causing nightmares. It's not worth the money but I have them now so any help will be welcomed.

You'll tear you hair out trying to use hive support, honestly, they dont really know what their doing and use guesswork, 5 of mine worked fine for years 1 and 2, now on year 3 and they dont turn my radiators off causing overshooting, hive have said they are now out of warranty and i need to purchase 5 more, thank you hive EDIT- though hive told me not to recalibrate i was curious if this would make them work as they should, and guess what, it seems to of resolved the issue! Hive are useless

These are pointless then if you just want to control the heating in one room and set the Thermostat to a setting of what you want in that room, the rest of the house will allso heat up to that temperature. Glad i saw this review before i brought one.
@junkendriven
@junkendriven 4 года назад
Hi there, that's true however you CAN disable the heating boost function of the TRV in the app, so you can avoid that. However, I tried with the heating boost function and sure enough the whole house was so hot it was unbearable! So unless you're willing to purchase enough to fill your house with these TRV's then they probably don't work well with BOOST.

If you have other TRVs on the other radiators these should control the other rooms so they will only heat upto what you have set them to. Such as 1,2,3,4,5. Ideally though for a better solution you would replace all TRVs to a hive trv for a seemless solution. They can be bought for as cheap as £25 and can replace them one by one. They are currently on the Easter sale at £45.

Andy, do you know what 'locks' the TRV and adapter together?
@junkendriven
@junkendriven 2 года назад
Hi there. They hold together using a plastic ring that sort of snaps it into place as it pushes over a metal ring on the trv body itself

So if it need to connect to a hive hub, what it the hub connected to? A boiler? Combi or traditional? Does it replace a switch?
@rfitzpatrick32
@rfitzpatrick32 4 года назад
Alasdair The hive hub is connected to your broadband router. It is the device all your hive devices connect to. If you have a hive thermostat that is connected to the hub also aswell as a boiler receiver which is used to turn your boiler on/off. Hive works with both combi boilers and traditional.

Also complaining about not being able to install batteries without reading instructions, isn't a valid criticism. And as per your complaint re: screen not staying on to long, that's an excellent battery saving feature. How long does it take you to read a number?

These are definitely intended to replace the majority of the valves in your house. As you say if you only run one it’s probably gonna cost you more in the long run
@leexgx

If you enable heat on demand, then yes it will do that (turn that feature off if if you don't have them on all of the radiators)

What annoys me about trv is battery life. If they gave an option for a power supply then these could be discreetly added during refurbishments. Customer has choice. Batteries or psu
@junkendriven
@junkendriven 3 года назад
absolutely, seems a common thing as few of them have the option to power externally. The hive TRV seems particularly bad at battery life, I'm getting 2-3 months typically

@@junkendriven get some good batteries Andy. I’m getting 6months plus out mine! And more for rooms that aren’t used so much.

Hive trv's are rubbish, batteries start to run down after 4 weeks, they should last 2 years, I'm using duracell procell batteries, the trv's keep calibrating, and 1 I have to keep the temperature up high to start the radiator heating up because it is not sensing the correct temperature in the room. I have british gas central heating cover but it does not mention trv's in the contract, but british gas I have heard are saying if they fitted items then they are covered, which I know they never fitted my radiators or boiler , but they cover them ? When I've been on the phone to hive, they have told me what I have connected to my hub ?? I have hive cctv cameras, can they log in and control / see what going on my cameras? I turn them off completely when not away from home.
