Multiple factors should be considered when deciding where to place a hive. It's important to consider the bees' flight path, especially in urban areas. Raising the hive off the ground by a foot and a half helps to ward off predators. Skunks, in particular, are fond of eating bees. Sunlight should also be considered, as warmer conditions will prompt the bees to leave the hive in search of pollen to feed brood during the colder months. Jon Christie, owner of Wild Mountain Bees, explains the different hive configurations bee keepers use throughout the country, depending on temperatures. Northern bee keepers use two deeps to insure that their hives have enough food to survive the winter. Bee keepers south of the Mid-Atlantic region tend to use one deep and a super. Another popular arrangement uses three supers which are easier to lift.

Wow you have an interesting channel!! Came from bee keeping. Noticed your channel looked interesting so hit on it. Growing ginsing and yellow root. Right up my alley!! Thanks!!I'm in the Ozarks so it might not work. Spent a good bit of time in the woods in Tennessee. They had plenty of ginsing and yellow root.

How is the colony's ability to keep (the queen) warn affected by deep verses medium boxes? Deep box means more bees to heat the space, but more space to heat. Medium box means less space to heat, but fewer bees to heat that space. Which is better?

Hello my fellow beekeeper. Do you thinks its better to keep hive in shade during the winter to keep them clustered and reserve stores? I have heard stories where beekeepers keep their hives in full sun in winter and the bee often don't make it because they broke cluster? What are your thoughts. Grateful.
