On Saturday, April 6th edition of Hockey Night in Canada, Don Cherry (wearing a very loud Easter suit) talks about Sidney Crosby's whining and the reaction from the league.
Me too. Cherry would have been fired 10 times since he did, as MacLean , Botterill, etc. drove the telecast into a woke ditch. How much does a primetime ad cost on HNIC cost? The book "The Hockey Jersey" ( or was it sweater ) has probably sold 8 copies, but gets promoted several times every Saturday. Botterill gets her knickers in a knot because Ivan Provorov exercised his rights, yet her telecasts promote online gambling ( how much addiction, marriage breakup, suicide will she and her colleagues be partially responsible for? )
I love Don Cherry. As a Buffalo native I don't always agree with him as he does not like to give respect to American teams and always routes for Canadians but he is a Canadian so what can you expect? I just like how he is a no bullshit kind of guy. Like I said I often disagree with his sentiments but he is never going to sugarcoat something because its considered to be in poor taste among the hockey elite. You gotta respect that.
+eddy Masson I agree, for Cherry to say that Stamkos gets abused more than Crosby is a crime. No player other than Lemieux has seen the abuse that Crosby gets. For Cherry to say that proves he really does not know much or watch Crosby play, he only watches highlights of retaliations.
To be fair, Crosby has improved immensively in the past years. He's tough now. He grew up. It's quite obvious that most hockey fans can't see the game objectively at all. Having said that, I think Malkin hasn't changed at all. He's still probably one of the dirtiest players in the league and seems to have no respect for other players.
I met Don a few weeks ago. We argued about my Blackhawks being better than the leafs, and I brought up Crosby. He says the same thing, which is correct in a way
Geoff Kilian you talk about being dirty but how about matt cooke was on the penisguins? how about brooks orpik hitting to the head and leaving his feet on louis erikson and then orpik is to much of a bitch to fight after? how about crosby tripping marchand and then james neal knees marchand in the head while hes on the ice? -Dirty play, we are the only dirty team? I think not. How many fights did the Penguins alone double team a player, pull another players hair, dive, knee on knee players, slash intentionally, etc. Don't worry cause its not just the Pens or Flyers that are guilty of this. -Go o the Bell Center and wear a Bruins jersey that says 'Habs Suck!' on the back, tell me how hated u feel. Or any major rivalry for that matter. -Statistically speaking, the Flyers are one of the most successful teams in the NHL. -Flyers have yet to come close to bankruptcy, cant say the same about some teams. That kinda shows how loyal as fans we are. We stay with our team thick and thin.
Geoff Kilian That's too bad. If you were on Boston's ice crew you would've had a front row seat to James Neal kneeing Marchand in the head, and then maybe you'd realize that the Penguins are up there with the dirtiest.

2:48 crosby slashes Giroux's wrist instead of going for the puck. He did that throughout the whole series to Giroux on face offs and ended up breaking both of his wrists. Giroux needed surgery after the season was over to repair them. Real respectable guy right! You'll never see that kind of childish behavior from Datsuyk, Toews, Stamkos, Giroux or any of the other elite players in the NHL. If your that good all you need to do is go play the game with respect.
It's the way hes so arrogant with his own team, and cant handle being beaten in public. His cute little flaring nostrils and adolescent mexican mustache don't help matters much either.
as a pens fan, and a fan of crosby i see more whining on the net then i do from him, hes not the only player to have dived but i usually see flyers or bruins fans stirring bs about him, sid has changed hes really not as arrogant and is a great team player im not going to say hes the best of all time but hes alot better then you guys give him credit for hes def one of the best the league has and as long as he scores goals you'll have to live with hearing his name, the cindy comments are childish and ignorant hes made alot more great plays in his career then the few unprofessional ones
The Sidney Crosby's (d'oh I mean the Pittsburgh Penguins) are despised by so many players, teams and fans is because of Crosby's constant whining and diving and I'll-cry-and-protest-if-I-don't-get-my-way attitude. This clip is almost 2 years old, and the Sidney Crosby's (I mean the Pittsburgh Penguins) and Crosby himself HAS NOT CHANGED. And the NHL doesn't help maters, since they have decided (with the help of NBC) that everybody is a fan of the Sidney Crosby's (I did it again, I mean the Pittsburgh Penguins) and that everybody lives in Pittsburgh, PA. I'm glad Don Cherry didn't let Ron Maclean get his way...notice how quickly Ron wanted to change the subject. Because CBC loves Sid the kid (I want to puke every time I hear that)...CBC even has the nerve to say "welcome to the Crosby Show" whenever the Pens are on Hockey Night in Canada
I agree with you and i may be a wings fan (hope that doesn't have anything to do with this,regardless of what team you root for) but when don cherry starts saying crybaby (damnit i did it too) is the best player in the league yeah i already stated that i'm a wings fan and of course datsyuk is better in all aspects but i would still put malkin above crybaby
***** I think I might have an answer as to why that piece of shit (I really don't mind calling him that as often as I can) is so popular. Like they did with Wayne Gretzky, the NHL has made it protocol to force everybody into liking Sidney Crosby, whether we want to or not. And the NHL has decided, on their own, that everybody lives in Pittsburgh, PA and we are all fans of the Pittsburgh Penguins, whether we want to be or not, because of Sidney Crosby. When the NHL "used" Gretzky for marketing purposes, we didn't have social media, and people liked Gretzky (except me, and I believe I was the only Canadian kid in the '80s who despised Gretzky and still do) because we were constantly told how great he was. And he was only "great" because, without social media, we didn't know that Gretzky was PROTECTED by the NHL and the Edmonton Oilers, and how Gretzky didn't play for the Edmonton Oilers, but they played for him. And that he too was a spoiled brat crybaby. But today, with internet/social media so prevalent, what the NHL did to Gretzky they are doing to Crosby, and the league failed to realize that forcing people these days to love Crosby would cause resentment and a backlash. And with social media, we can find out instantly just what kind of person Crosby really is : a spoiled brat suck, to say the least. Just like Wayne Gretzky was/is, only without the internet back then we didn't know it

I just want Crosby out of the NHL. There's so many players out there who are better, less arrogant, less polarizing, and more likeable than Crosby, and they get very little acknowledgement, if any at all. Like John Tavares, Phil Kessel, Steven Stamkos, or even Alex Ovechkin, to name a couple of examples, because Crosby seeks to be the centre of attention, or he might have a temper tantrum and go cry in the locker room. Crosby this, Crosby that...how about Stamkos this, Stamkos that, or Tavares this, Tavares that for once. That's all I was trying to say. Crosby's matured a lot since he's started playing to the point where I like him now. You have to take into account that when he started he was 19, and acted like a typical 19 year old would act. Hell I remember what a little shit I used to be. He's the best in the league at the moment and that's not going to change for a very long time. He's only going to get better and eventually will earn the respect of everyone. Mario Lemeuix started off the same if not worse, and he ended up being one of the greatest too.

Once again, the great Don Cherry hits the nail right on the head. It's an outrage that John Tortorella was fined while Orpik got away scott-free. And I'll never defend Mike Milbury, but it's ridiculous that he had to apologize for calling Crosby a punk. Sidney Crosby is the Michael Phelps of the NHL: a diving champion.
I Remember playing road hockey with Sid a few times back in the 1990s... he did end up crying one time over something small...Saw him this summer Fishing on Grand Lake though class act guy now. He does get a lot of abuse he doesn't deserve.

It's funny how he named all those great players who wouldn't dive, and complain, Notice how Lemieux wasn't among them. P.S. Gretzky didn't complain too much because everyone was afraid to touch him. If he did have A problem though he would complain as much as anyone.
When Crosby gets slashed around his mouth and his teammates don't go after the player that slashed him I think his teammates are done with his complaining. Just my thoughts and I am referring to the Sabres Penguins game March 21, 2017 after Crosby did an upward slash to Ryan O'Reilly's manhood.
you can't say especially Brayden Schenn. Kid hasn't even played a full season in the nhl. and i'm an Oilers fan but i watch a ton of this kid because i've liked him since he was in Brandon and he plays a ton like Mike Richards (ironically) and he def does not flop to the same extent as Crosby. i'll agree everyone embellishes but not dives. theres a big difference between trying to get a call to go your way and diving.
i know from being a hockey player its not cool to dive or sell penalties..but the thing is everyone does it..some do it more than others..some are good at selling penalties some arent..the best players in the league if they do it..they get targeted for it..it looks worse if crosby whips his head back more than if some 4th liner does it..crosby use to whine he doesnt anymore when he complains about something its because he cares and wants to win ...people either love him or hate.i think hes beast
When a star player starts whining or retaliating that's telling the opposing team that they have succeeded in getting under his skin and getting him off his game. Keep playing through the hacks, slashes, cheap shots like it doesn't bother you. Crosby took Cherry's advice (which made Cherry enemy #1 among Penguins fans) and he won 2 more Cups. Everyone needs someone around them who's got the guts to tell them the fuckin' truth.
He was like that his rookie year and a little bit afterwards, I know he used to give the refs hell for common shit in the league. He's not like that now, he's just doing his job as a captain. Here's the difference between him and other captains though - He's the best player in the league. He's always in the camera's view. People see every little thing that he does, when in reality, every other captain and player in the league does too.
Cherry does have a point but I'd have to disagree with Craig Berube on Crosby and Malkin being the dirtiest players on their team. I'd have to say Matt Cooke is the dirtiest player on the Pens. He took out Savard and his career is over, Lecavalier's shoulder and just yesterday Karlsson's Achilles' tendon!
Anyone with half a brain that watched the Flyers-Penguins series knows that the Pittsburgh was outclassed and got chippy when the series started to get out of hand. Crosby pushes people's gloves away, gets absolutely destroyed by Giroux and then whines to the refs. Neal goes in high, Malkin's slashing, and then you've got Asham crosschecking a guy in the throat and punching him when he goes down. Remember when Lemieux sent his little letter to the league? Pens are hypocrites. Totally gutless.
Look at Vanek, he gets so much shit infront of the net. sticks, elbows, cheap shots etc... he never complains, never dives, he's one of the toughest goal scorers there is, not because he can fight, but because he continues to take the abuse and still score
lol I checked the stats bud, crosby in 4 seasons where playing almost every game, tallied 434 points, INCLUDING HIS ROOKIE SEASON, while stamkos got 329 in his 4 seasons, playing MORE games than crosby. Goal scoring doesn't make a better hockey player bro. Crosby's the best.
you cant even compare sid the previous legends. Mario's game style was completely different along with Gretzky. Then again take those players in their prime, and put them into the 2013 season. big difference
