I also have 2. I plan on breeding them as well as future additions in the coming years so for now I'm working with a rack system. Is there any correlation that you've noticed with breeders kept in racks as compared to hoggies kept in more of a display type enclosure? Will it stress them out when it comes to breeding if they are primarily kept in an aquarium in another room and then go in to breeding most likely in bins? BTW, it's a lavender het albino female and a male arctic mocha het lavender het albino het axanthic. I'm hoping he's gonna be a great breeder for several lucky ladies. #dontrawdogtheheat 🤣🤣

We have four hoggies currently. Two 2021 babies from shows and two from Craigslist that are a bit older. I thought you did a good job explaining a basic setup for a hognose. Personally I have found that ours do better with a heat lamp or heat emitter as well as under tank heating. Our male especially seemed to begin eating better for me once he had higher ambient temps from the heat lamp.

I have an axthanic male hognose, almost 1.5 years old now. I have him in a 20 gallon tank and he does well… not sure he got the memo they aren’t climbers though. I added a plant with vines to the back of the tank more for decoration and he is constantly in the top of it or sitting on top of his cave like he’s freaking Simba looking out on his kingdom.

It’s crazy how small males get, gigantic males are 2 feet in length while most remain 12-18-inches. They, in all likelihood, only need a 10 gallon enclosure to be able to fully stretch out in their enclosure. A 20 gallon is easily twice as long as they are or longer.
@hereticFox716
@hereticFox716 4 месяца назад
@@metaknight115an enclosure thats twice as long as a snake is usually what you want
@metaknight115
@metaknight115 4 месяца назад
@@hereticFox716 That’s a giant enclosure. Usually, the tank should ideally be the full length of the snake. Bigger is always better, but giving a corn snake an 8-12 food enclosure seems a little too much to ask.

Hognose snakes make great beginners and truly amazing one of a kind snakes. I absolutely love mine and I’ve owned and worked with almost every species in the pet trade and easily one of my absolute favorites. And research is the key to any new pet even spider ball pythons and iguanas and both are amazing. Yes there are some spider balls out there that have problems but there are way more without them just like any morph or species. So honestly don’t always believe what others say do your research and find what works for you best and what your most passionate for and you can make it happen🤘🏻 And in no way shape or form am I sponsored by iguanas or spider ball pythons🙋‍♂️✌️
@FaerieFays
@FaerieFays 2 года назад
@@pumpkinchow Please do more research on spider ball pythons and PLEASE don’t recommend them to beginners?! It is a very commonly shared fact in the reptile community that breeding (and buying) of spider morphs is quite cruel in MOST cases as a massive percentage has at least some form of neurological damage. And most are of the opinion that since you can’t tell if they’re in pain or not the best bet is to just stay away all together. So don’t spread misinfo about them “being fine most of the time” because this is simply not true…

I'm seriously thinking of getting a hognose snake (the more I research them, the more I feel like they are the perfect reptile for me!) I thought that finding a hognose that was any other than a normal type in the country that I live in was pretty much impossible, and that my only option was pet store bought. But as it turns out, there is a breeder a 2 hour drive from me with all sorts of beautiful morphs! And I know they are captive breed (important to me). So my dream of a snow morph hognose might not be so impossible after all 😊

Pls... an Albino in any form is never a helthy pet.... cause of lack by melanin and stuff they r sensitiv to light cause they have no protection ->skin cancer Chance, if u Use uvb sunburn etc.... Also These snakes eyes r much more sensitiv to light and can feel pain because of it. Also many albino's r born deaf.... wich is underrated cause you cant really Controll it at a snake but also Important Part of suffering from albinism. Pls dont Support any people who breed ill snakes. Even if it not seems to you that These "breed" is suffering... Reptiles often suffer silent (Sry 4 my english i'm not a mother tongue but i try my best to explain that stuff)

@@novanettle7497 I believe the negative effects are mostly in animals that require high amounts of UVB (albino green iguanas come to mind as having issues because the UVB can damage their eyes to the point they become almost blind). @nightinggale6470
@nightinggale6470 2 года назад
Just letting you know: heat mats are not a good heat source. A halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer/dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option, Arcadia’s deep heat projector is the second best option. They produce infrared A and B like the sun, heat that penetrates deep into the skin tissue and heats them far more effectively than heat mats. Whereas heat mats only produce IRC, which only heats the surface of their skin.

If it's going to be a baby hognose...you should probably start it in something smaller until it eats regularly. That size should be good for an adult. You can get a shoebox size tub at Walmart for like $5 and just use a heat mat with a thermostat. Set it a few degrees higher than what you want if using substrate and make sure there is plenty of holes for ventilation to keep humidity between 30%-50%.

he traded his corn snake away because he didnt enjoy it, so I doubt he's going to do anything for corns. it's a shame, red ratsnakes are sweethearts.

These videos & your care guides videos are probably my favorites so far. I have learned SOOOO MUCH from you in the very short 4-5 weeks since I found your channel. During their awesome Black Friday Sale this past November, I purchased 2 female leopard geckos from Brian over at BHB. My family has almost always owned a wide variety of pets including multiple Ball Pythons, a Columbian Boa, a Pacman Frog, Rose Hair Tarantula etc. But these are my very first geckos ever, infact they are my first lizards ever. They arrived & as soon as I opened their containers & saw those little smiles...I was obsessed!!! There are almost too many different care guides, articles etc online with different information which made it a frustrating process when researching everything I needed to know & get for the geckos before the arrived. Of course I immediately pulled up all of Brian's videos about them & the care sheet on his website. But I like multiple opinions & while digging into it, I found out about your channel & after watching 1 of your videos about them, I was extremely impressed & am now going back through your videos & watching them all, whether it's an animal I will ever get or not, I still love the information & the way you present it. I fell in love with an almost all bright reddish orange Fancy Bearded Dragon baby at my local store yesterday. They have 30 of them, all are in quarantine till the owners are confident that they are healthy, good eaters, no mites etc. Which is good cause I would have left with 1 yesterday if they were for sale now lol. So, after this I will be pulling up all of your videos about beardies in preparation for the almost inevitable purchase I will be making in the next week or 2 lol thanks Adam!!!

my hoggy loves a base of coconut dirt with a huge pile of aspen on it. He also loves water for some reason, so I have upgraded him to a longer water bowl he can soak himself in. It's near the heat lamp so it stays nice and warm. he's a goofy little boy for sure and so much fun. I highly recommend hognosies. they make great little companions. except.........sometimes Hobi goes into the dirt and I won't see him for a week until he smells dinner (thawed pinky)

A good reference for people looking for digital hygrometers and thermometers: humidors (large, climate controlled cigar containers). Cigars apparently need specific humidity and temperature requirements for ideal storage, so you can find a lot of digital readers for WAY less than reptile-branded ones.
@WickensWickedReptiles
@WickensWickedReptiles 2 года назад
sure but how accurate are they? I have a few cigar humidors, I use Govee thermostats for them because the analog ones they come with are not only the same price but are very inaccurate.
