QOD: Podcast could be cool, but daily video takes so much time for such high quality and now you got all the nice gear to make it so, I'd hate to see podcast detract from daily vlog. I think 1x month podcast could deliver unique mode/content without detracting from daily vlog.🤙

Be patient with Hoka. They take at least 50/75 miles to break in and become soft. After that period you wont look back. They are great trainers and great company.

I personally think you are mastering the "running youtuber" space. Your consistency, dedication, talent, and energy help set you apart from all the other channels out there. A podcast sounds great, but I'm not sure how much of a value-add that would be in addition to the daily vlog, live streams, and now Discord, for the DGR family and yourself. More channel content like shoe battles, additional running shoe matrices, and more training talks could make more sense than a podcast.... but thats my opinion. I'll be here to support DGR regardless of the direction you go, Seth!

Podcast is great idea and I used to listen to podcast when I’m running. However, the key would be with quality content. Quality is more important than quantity.

QOD: Interviewing pro runners would be a cool pod cast series, but it would be really awesome to interview via skype or whatever the shoe designers at the shoe manufacturers, like Hoka, Puma, Adidas, etc. They could answer specific questions from you or the DGR listeners about shoe design, construction, and runner implementation of their shoes. Just a thought! You rock Seth and DGR strong!

Yes a little script goes a long ways and questions from members or voted questions is a good route. The agenda seems a bit too structured bit the format works out well and almost organic.
@dannyj1983

I agree with a lot of the other commenters. A DGR podcast would be very cool, i just wonder how much more effort its going to take and what the toll could be. You will create brilliant content no matter what, but at what cost to family time and focus on your running goals? I'm patient, I say lets save the podcast for a time when DGR has a sound engineer or a vlog editor; just a team to enable you to manage the workload to allow for high quality AND great content.

QOD: I think the way you interact with all your followers is your strong suit and your unique selling point! A ‘regular’ podcast wouldn’t quite tap into your strengths, if you ask me. Then again: maybe a format in which you get guests to interact together with you with your followers would be something! Please keep finding ways to bring your spontaneity, positivity and energy to interactions with all of us. Stay unique 💪🏻

I think the livestream is a good idea!! Maybe have a "featured shoes of the stream" every time and rotate between road, trail and racing. So that you can recommand and talk more in detail about a single (or multiple) running shoes and connect different peoples questions and needs too a shoe? Anyway have a good day DGR fam!

QOD: I have been listening to “the drop” by believe in the run during my Saturday morning long runs, 1 hour 26 mins long, with 30 mins of chat then an interview, great for the relaxed effort I am putting in on that run. I wouldn’t copy the format though, I would release something at the start of the week where you discuss your training goals for this week, shoes coming up and give training tips and thoughts, a very upbeat, shorter, podcast helping set everyone’s minds for the week ahead and getting their running work done. DGstaRt the week?

I am a neutral runner standing 6ft tall, weighing 180lbs. I have very narrow double AA feet with high arches!! I got back into running 2 months ago. I recently got my 1st pair of Hoka's and chose the Clifton 7. I love 'em. "Believe in the Run" those madcap duet guys evaluated the Clifton 8 and concur with you that Hoka needs to learn some new tricks. The EVA has run it's course. They are slipping behind the times. My local running store has a Saturday training/fun run whereby they have the test shoe of the week without obligation to buy. Last Saturday was the Rincon 2 and I super loved em! That is one light, fast, fun shoe to run in.

Don't spread yourself too thin Seth and burnout! With the podcast idea, livestreams, website, discord group, other social media, and all the things you do for youtube it's a lot! We appreciate it but take care of yourself as well. As for feedback on a podcast I would agree that certain interviews on your channel are already podcast episodes on their own. Just do more of those.

QOD: It’s my humble opinion, but I believe podcasts in general are better when you have 2-3 people in a conversation. Whether it’s interviews every time, or you find someone to team up with, it makes the podcast feel more like a conversation and less like a lecture. For equipment, check out RODE podcaster.

@catchpole11
@catchpole11 3 года назад
Would you consider introducing sustainability into your full reviews? It overlaps with durability (because a shoe that lasts longer is probably going to have a lower carbon footprint) but I think it's really important for shoe-influencers (and runners) to start pushing brands to be more sustainable. Recycled materials, low carbon packaging etc. Love the work. Keep it buttered. X Chris X

QOD: Love the idea of a DGR podcast! I listen to a lot of podcasts when I run, but I definitely prefer them to be at least 1-1.5 hours long to take me through my whole run. If its hard to make time to make them that length I would definitely love to see emphasis on the length and quality vs. quantity as I have other creators to fill the rest of the time. I think you missed the boat on your comps. Price point matters if you are comparing apples to apples. The daily trainer equivalents are the Saucony Ride 14, NB 880 v11, Nike Peg 38, ASICS Cumulus and Novablast, Skechers GORun Ride 9, Brooks Ghost 13, and Mizuno Wave Rider 24. In that group, there’s a still a lot of EVA going on. Midsole innovation is more typically happening at higher price points (Nike Invincible Run) and different use cases (NB Rebel 2).

thanks for the first impression = very helpful! QOTD: i am not really into interviews with elites. as a mid pack runner they really arent that helpful. maybe interviews with coaches, PT's or someone who cares about/is like the rest of us. for sound, study acoustics a little. don't make you room sound like it's made of tar, use diffusion instead of absorption to give it a little liveness since you are just talking and not playing drums. your setup now sounds fine but it does sound like you are in a closet :)

QOD: use your livestream with Kilian as a template. Maybe 1-2 livestreams per month on youtube and social media with high profile athletes, other running youtubers/authors etc. If you wanted it to also be available in podcast format to broaden distribution then you could edit it down afterwards (the "How I built this" podcast from NPR is one example that combines livestreams/podcasts). But the Kilian one was great so you should build on that!

I don't think a podcast is necessary. I feel like we've got something better than that in the vlog itself. I'm not a creative person, so I can really only one thing that could be in a podcast that isn't in the vlogs--interviews. I'd be interested in hearing from runners and folks from shoe companies. It may be hard to line them up on the regular, so I don't know how viable that is. I mean, Seth's thing is that he is regular--we all know when to expect each vlog to drop. If there were podcasts, I would say it shouldn't be more than bi-weekly at the most. I agree with what others have said about quality over quantity, but I don't think it's something we have to worry about given the track record of the vlog and the commitment we heard Seth talk about today.

Might be a bit early to judge the midsole after only 10miles, especially in cold conditions. My question is "Is the Toebox any wider than the 7?" That is the issue many runners have with newer Hoka shoes - they've just lost the plot when it comes to fit. It is the main reason I now almost always train in Altras

Hey Seth, just wanted to give my perspective on heart rate. As a former runner who is now a cyclist, I was surprised at how widespread heart rate monitors are in the sport of cycling. It is extremely key for us to measure the physiological effect that the power we are putting out has, mainly to make sure we are not about to blow up, but also to pace ourselves on aerobic base rides. I think it could be useful for you on the trails because when your running vertically the pace per mile isn't super useful. Maybe in your harder trail runs or races, you wear a monitor to make sure you don't blow up. Just my 2 cents.

I feel like some people started saying with the Clifton 7 needed around a 30 mile break in where I didn’t feel like that was needed in the 6s. Still love my 6’s for Daily Trainer/east miles. Trying to plan my next set, may end up with the 7s as they 30 off now

I would maybe listen to a podcast once a month. I’ll be honest a few RU-vid vids a day and that’s my quota for social media. I might check out the fb group a few times a week but that’s it. Just don’t have the time. One thing though I’ve listened to a few podcasts and sometimes it just is a lot of rambling conversation. Also lots of podcasts will have someone on and they will ask the same questions if they have a guest as another podcast. For me to listen would have to be a interesting person and a bit structured. As others say Seth don’t spread yourself too thin. You have a multitude of projects going on now. Quality over quantity.

I wonder if Hoka wanted the Clifton 8 to "break in" to a soft landing, opposed to the soft out-of-the-box 7. Perhaps so the midsole lasts longer but will eventually have the same feeling under foot. Especially considering that bigger runners seem to be a large part of their customer base. I'm 195lbs and run in the Clifton 7 on easy days; have just over 70mi and can see how the midsole might die around 300mi, because its so soft.

A little strange with this shoe I expected that it would be a nice easy day shoe with a real soft ride but I have watched other reviews and read about it I've actually heard that they made it softer than the 7 so I hope that either when you run in it more or it warms up that the midsole will soften up because I was really looking forward to this shoe definitely looking forward to the 50 mile full review also DGR Podcast YES PLEASE!!!

I tried store new Clifton 7s side by side one I put 300miles in, my personal pair were significantly softer underfoot. I do think it's a thing with Hoka foams starting to soften up and really get comfortable after putting about 50miles in. Also when I was buying my Invincibles at a Nike store, I noticed some pairs feel softer than others (Wanted a different colour but ultimately went with the colour I didn't fancy because the foam felt softer and livelier for some reason) So there might be inconsistencies between pair to pair.

Seth, I do not have the Clifton 8’s but I’d have to agree with you on the midsole based on my experience with the 7’s, I’m new to running and I got the 7’s and Pegasus 37’s and the initial feel was comfortable when but I got both shoes to 100 miles in about 3 weeks and the 7’s are not as comfortable as they were on my initial run, it feels blah as you said, the 37’s are more comfortable for my long run, my only issue with it is that it could use a more plush tongue. So Hoka does need to do something about that midsole and it wears way too fast, maybe by the time I get to 300 or 350 miles I’ll have to retire it.

Listen to podcasts on runs, love Pyllars by Dylan Bowman which is high quality. Would definitely listen to DGR!

I’m in Canada and every Hoka has preformed MUCH differently in the cold vs the hot. I’m interested to see if the Clifton 8 is a warm weather only shoe.

I'm relatively new to the channel! Love all the content! I learn something from every video and I've been a runner for over 12 years. Why do you twist the shoes? You like the loosey goosey shoes but why does that matter? Curious to what that's telling you! Thanks!!!
