I remember the old days, when I could walk into a gas station with a dollar fifty, and walk out with a Coke, Skittles, Snickers bar, and a pack of baseball cards. Nowadays, there's cameras everywhere.

The thief tax helps reduce the liability of smaller independent owned businesses for items which they don't catch and aren't able to be returned or reimbursed.
He can be glad that he didn't get the cops called on him... He could have gotten up to 1 year in prison or a 1000$ penalty (maybe not for stealing 1 drink but still :P)
It's scary how much I act like a thief when I'm in a gas station. I always look at the counter when coming in, aswell as look at the cameras when I'm in there. Never stole anything though, I just always feel like they would suspect me of stealing when I'm in there.
I've put stuff in my pocket before, but that's because I have to walk with assisted walking devices. But obviously I take everything out and pay for our before I leave.
After working at quik trip for 4.5 years I can say these videos are the most pleasing to watch. Especially the commentary, it’s exactly what goes through every cashier’s head when they observe customers.
Shoplifters are EVERYWHERE. Most of them don't like to talk about it. This place does, and good for them. I guarantee you YOUR local store has the same exact problem, and probably worse.
CheckeeAintAmused I used to live within 10 minutes of this gas station and can confirm it’s not a crummy area. It’s right next to the highway which does attract some worse people though

You need to look up at the counter on the way in, do the thief-stretch, then the thief scratch, then look at the counter again and then spend like 15 minutes looking at all your delicious beverage options.
