great tip thanks. I was thinking of cutting away a circle and then filling it with filler (hopefully still leaving room for the latch mechanism). Glad I dont have to bother with all that now 🍺
You can also but ‘through bolts’ so that you don’t have to rely on the screw thread in the repaired wood (which are weak as the grain of the cocktail stick is in the wrong direction), also cocktail sticks are generally too hard and matchsticks or cheap kebab skewers will work better as well as cleaning the holes out with a small drill before gluing in the ‘dowels’
What's going to stop your new screw holes from eventually becoming like all those previous chewed up holes? Surely you'll have to keep coming back to redo this repair?
