As someone who studied tech and AI along with focusing on the creative arts of acting and filming during college, it's outrageous to see writers don't get valued enough on their hard-work as they have contributed to give actors and performers jobs - plus they are very needed in the world of entertainment. Looking at how big CEOs running the entertainment and streaming services making fortunes each year - but haven't laid a finger into the creative thought process of developing a show and writing several character arcs - is definitely absurd. Writers are essential in the business and deserve to get a better pay - and not be replaced with AI tech.

Right, it’s worth a try I feel I think it’ll be a smart move if many small companies come together and put out good quality content, and gain the attention of most Hollywood watchers that there are other creatives out there, and just get people to stop entertaining Hollywood altogether. I think the reason the industry is falling apart is related to all you have enlisted, but also with a trend from the last 10 years. I'm talking about the pattern of forcing ideological content into entertainment in a not so subtle way. I think people are a bit tired of being indoctrinated, labeled and judged on products they seek for escapist entertainment. Some studios like Disney are doubling down on that and it is killing very profitable I.P.s in a fast pace.

I haven’t liked much of what Hollywood has been putting out lately. It seems like they’ve been destroying many classic IPs, like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, The Terminator, Doctor Who, The Witcher, Halo and many more. As a result, I’m glad that the writers are on strike because it keeps them from being able to inflict more damage on the properties that many of their fans enjoy. Besides, there is so much content available on streaming that a single person couldn’t watch it all in their lifetime and, even if they were able to, we could move on to books. People would probably be better for it.

@@hoos3014 Relationships are an important part of life. The relationship between the writers, the actors and the studios is going to take a hit because, when this blows over, the disrespect that has been shown is going to cause some animosity. The studios, actors and writers also have a relationship with the audience. For many years now, many studios, writers and actors have disrespected the audience. Obviously, not everyone but the industry, overall, is perceived as sharing a similar, cliquish mindset. It’s hard to feel sorry for an industry that has exhibited disdain for much of its audience. I had no idea studio writers had to deal with issues like that. As a writer I've had to pay for editors out of pocket and needed to learn to create cover art on my own. It was either that or pay an artist to do it, and it's scary what editors and artists charge for novels my size. Eventually I had to face the fact that I didn't have money for it, and I've been learning to edit my books on my own. Keeping a list of my all my mistakes on the side for reference. I pretty much gave up on making money and started publishing on my website for free, going back to update as I edited each book. But going through all that and then seeing successful writers struggling for fair treatment and wages. It's seriously upsetting. These are people with way more skills and talent than myself, being disregarded by an industry that I've dreamed of working for my whole life. Walt Disney is probably turning in his grave. Our family is overseas right now, but I wish there was a way I could support the writers strike from here. What they do isn't easy. They deserve a fair shake. Nice cactus by the way.

Being a filmmaker, it pains me to see it all going down, and makes me fearful that when I finally make something that should be my breakout film, there won’t be a huge industry anymore. I just hope that this serves as a sort of fresh start, and that as all of these current Hollywood elites crash new production companies and people that value entertainment over politics will rise to the top.

This ESG stuff has really damaged a lot of the products that Hollywood is producing and people are turning things off. So they’re not making the profits they want. We’ve all felt the drop in quality in television and film recently. If they want to fix this, they have to get out of their own way and refocus on storytelling, not pushing one agenda/idea or another. They’re shooting themselves in the foot and now it’s causing them to isolate the writers too.

Cactus🌵 I'm currently in school for musical theatre, and I love learning through your channel about the other aspects of performance art, and the differences and similarities that each entail. For theatre, especially Broadway, we have the Actor's Equity Association (or Actor's Equity for short) and there have been many protests in regards to stagehands not being paid fairly, writers, etc. In 2021 I believe, there was a protest. Self-tapes are both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, you get the gift of redoing your audition to your level of perfection (or best quality in that time, as it's never always perfect cuz we're humans) but on the other hand, for me at least, I constantly am paranoid that it could be better, and feel limited by my surroundings. Besides, in an in-person audition, it's a one-and-done deal, so I leave knowing I did my best in that moment and I move on with my day. I love your content, and hope you're able to go through school well, and that you aren't negatively impacted. I wholeheartedly stand with the protesters.

Yes the effect has transitioned to all the cg/vfx artists too. We have layoffs happening right now in "batches", and contracts not getting renewed. A large pool of vfx artists will be out of job within months, and there are no vacancies to hire them. Hope the writers get their fair share and are respected in the way they should be.

Thanks for the breakdown of the conflict, very insightful. However, this applies to America and American productions, the rest of the world produces quality series and movies still so I don't believe there will be a lack of new content on the big streaming services. And I am sure that the longer this drags out, the more these companies will strart to greenlight international productions.

Wow. Very well thought out and researched video. I got some clarification on many of the WGA striking points. Also reminded me how much some audiences like myself miss the 22+ episode network TV seasons. More content for viewers. More pay for writers. More opportunities for directors. On a side note. You're a lovely young woman. ❤ Natural tone makeup suits you better. Especially no blue eye shadow!!! God bless.

I’m wondering how having 8 episodes instead of 22 changes the amount of money the studio makes overall? I realize writers should be paid as well but I think it’s becoming harder for everyone. Even in my industry there are less workers but the same production is expected so we work harder for that. It’s everywhere, not just in the entertainment industry. That’s what happens as times change, we have to adapt. The writers seem to be out of touch with the general population too and create content no one wants to watch. It takes more to get people to go see a movie now than it use to. Money is tighter now and will only get worse. I think it’s important to understand that the entertainment industry is changing, going on strike won’t make things any better for either actors or writers. If no one goes to see these movies or tunes in to these shows everyone looses money. Everyone is struggling right now, I just don’t think it’s the best time to be negotiating for more.

14:07 What does THE SAG mean by curbing the practice of self-tapes? Like completely stop or have more of a 50/50 thing? I hope it’s not to completely stop it because self-tapes have made auditioning more accessible for people who don’t live/are not yet ready to make the move to California or New York. I understand the thought though if you have made that Jump to move to those cities or already live there then you should be able to audition in person to cut costs in an already expensive city!

@pyrolight7568
@pyrolight7568 Год назад
The strike is the studios saying, ya we are done with quantity over quality. That is why they rejected the comical offer from the writers guild. Studios are killing tons of shows they know will be unprofitable due to the strike. Studios can see how much actual value shows have with them off the air. That is are they making more or less overall profit. Writers might go find other work as there is a massive overabundance of them due to covid and an increase in tv watching. What you will be seeing is the meritocracy come back and the good will rise and the poor will be replaced by AI, both writers and actors.

The issue with AI is that even if Hollywood doesn't use it, the technology will still get better and better. So the producers can't forbid it's use or they will be at a huge competitive disadvantage with the rest of the world. That's why I think it was a mistake for the WGA to put it in their list of demands as they'll never win on that issue. As for actors, AI is a much bigger threat. With how good deep fakes are getting (and the new Indiana Jones movie apparently is getting close to undetectable) the entire career of movie and TV actor will soon be obsolete. This is because you can now separate the look of the actor from the actual performance. A producer can just find a person with the right look and digitally scan him or her and use that digital actor forever. The acting itself will either be done via AI or through a mocap artists (or a combination of both). I just don't see how Hollywood can possibly turn away the idea of a digital actor who is never paid, never has scheduling conflicts, and never does anything embarrassing.

It assists me with my coding projects, and I interact with it almost like it's human. I have a huge level of respect for this emerging technology. I have also developed a feel for what it can and can't do, at least in my area of expertise. I know nothing about modern screen writing. I love film and good TV.
