Thanks Indrani for clarifying. We Indian Bengalis are being subdued by "Bangladeshis" almost everywhere. They massively outnumber us. It's important to realise there isn't just one type of Bengali. And we would not want to be categorized under the same heading. They(Bangladeshis) have a very different culture, and this false sense of "Bengali unity across border" is just ruining West Bengal.

@@DreamlessSkies You know, the number of times I have been to UK, when people asked my ethnicity and I say I am an Indian Bengali, they go like, "Yeah I have a few B.deshi friends", or "You B.deshis have awesome food". They mostly fail to comprehend that Indian Bengalis are a distinct ethnic category. That never happens with Sikhs, despite a lot of Pakistanis living abroad, vast majority of whom are infact Punjabis. People always tend to treat Sikhs as a separate class. I want this distinction.

@@PaulAllen6304 Yeah, that happens. Here in Norway, Bengali means someone from Bangladesh. West Bengal isn't a place they have heard of because it is a small state in a huge country. But to be absolutely honest, there are many Bangladeshis in West Bengal as well. Are you by any chance talking about the ghoti-bangal divide or just West Bengal/Bangladesh?

That dessert he said eating for the first time is a main dessert of Puri Jagannath and yes that is super tasty. I have had these since my childhood days and I liked them a lot. If you people ever had a chance to come to Odisha explore these desserts in Puri.

Varanasi has three names Varanasi, Kashi, Banaras. The main temple of Varanasi is Kashi Vishwanath temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva and another temple Sankatmochan Hanuman temple which is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. This city was the capital of ancient Varanasi kingdom.

Paan in regular household is just 3 ingredients: Betel leaf, Betal nut and a inch of Lime (calcium carbonate). Period. Rest are all condiments and ‘parfum’. Accepted still are fennel seeds, cloves and cardomom seeds. Rose jam or Gulkand is widely accepted but selective.

Banaras have been mentioned in one of the oldest religious text Mahabharat. Banaras and Patliputra have mentioned in Greek history too. Paan is mentioned in book of Chinese travellers like in Fah-en and middel eastern Ibn Batuta.

rose cools your gut, Korbin. so you got to treat it like a medicine in food if you're unfortunate enough to not enjoy its flavour. i know the perfume smelly thing you talk about but so far i havent had a pan or anything with rose that affected me. but of course you could be more sensitive to it. eat it like a med. it's good 4 u.
