Being very fair complexion and living in south central Texas I use a parasol all summer as do many people ...I am of English and Scottish descent and was never made to live in sunny, hot conditions..haha
My mother worked for a famous dermotolgist years ago. She was always after us Irish Vikings to cover up. I have an umbrella with me at all times . Even to this day. Now transplanting peonies. Sometimes they take a few years to bloom again.
My Irish grandma put about a 1/2 teaspoon sugar in vase filled with room temp water. Her various flowers lasted much longer than usual and were so beautiful! The lilacs lasted a week, rather than just a day or two! A friend uses an aspirin instead of the packets that come with florist bouquets. I tried an experiment with three vases, same flowers in each...the first to wilt was the florist packet vase...after 3rd day! The aspirin vase lasted 4-5 days, but drooped by 5th evening. The sugar water bouquet lasted longest, made it to a week!
Thank you for another inspiring video. Please take us along with you again whenever you shop, or house hunt, for those of us who have limited resources you are a welcome treasure.
I just love ALL your videos, you are very inspiring! I lost my zeal for gardening until I discovered your channel, now I can't wait to get outside and play in the dirt again!
We're are unable to grow Peonies in Louisiana; at least. I haven't been to grow them successfully. I love lillies of the valley...something I have not grown successfully. Keep up great videos!
I have an old hand fan. I love Parasols & fans. A great era of Femininity. Thanks for your videos I enjoy them. Looking forward to your dining decor choice. My special - Getting up early with coffee & listening to God’s creations waking up. I love birds because they always wake up singing! 😊 Have a great weekend.
Linda, you with your parasol in the beautiful scenic yard looks like a Renoir painting. I just love you in your long sun dress...beautiful. I love the arrangement... I’m very drawn to ferns snd they look beautiful with the flowers ♥️
The 1st thing that I'm doing for me today is watching this video with a morning cup of yummy amaretto coffee. I am then meeting some old friends today for an early dinner/late lunch. In between will be some boring cleaning. Your videos are always such a treat and I love antique malls!
I was having a very frustrating morning, finding two huge, heavy rocks exactly where I wanted to plant a rose bush (beginner gardener). I came in to take a quick break and found your video. I did something nice for myself by sitting down with an iced coffee and enjoying your wonderful video. Now I am refreshed enough to get back to the job at hand. Thanks you!
What a beautiful episode! I loved that antiques co-op. Oh I was almost jumping into the screen! I have miniature lilacs and they die on me almost as soon as I cut them off the stem. You looked so beautiful in your blue dress and parasol.
I just picked a big bouquet of Lily of the Valley yesterday for my home. Mine are especially sentimental to me because they were my Dad's favourite flower. After he passed in 1977 I dug a couple shovelful's from my family home and planted them under my lilac's. They have now spread to about 12' deep and at least 25'-35' long, and I always lovingly remember my Mom and Dad when I see those beautiful, fragrant, little delicate blooms each Spring. Really enjoyed this video. ~~M~~
I have an antique parasol, but I have never used it other than for the rain. You always make simple pleasures come alive. So fu, and relaxing to watch you. I look forward to watching you every time.
Very enjoyable video Linda! Today I took care of myself by laying in our hammock after work and reading some decorating magazines and dozing off. Heaven!!🌸☮️
Oh, what a find ..the co-op had my heart beating fast. Now is such a great time to purchase antiques because of the prices. I’m looking this place up..Thanks Linda👍..Liz
Nice parasol!! I have a couple that I use occasionally. They come in handy out here in the desert. Speaking of the desert, we did not get much rain in the past months, so we did not get the blooming snd greening that I was hoping for. I am reminded of how beautiful the green is that surrounds you back East. When we lived in Utah, I got Lilly of the Valley as well. I loved making arrangements to enjoy their delicate beauty. I love the “new” antique shop that you found. My kind of store! I could spend hours in there looking at every single thing!! I just love the golf picture (what a great deal you got!) That you picked up for your husband’s office! It is just perfect. As you can see, I completely enjoyed your video today. I always enjoy them! Xo
As I have stated before, you don't know how lucky you are to live in New England. So much history and many wonderful antique stores to choose from. Not so much here in lower Delaware. Although we are the first state and are rich in history, the lower part is very rural and short on good antique stores. Enjoyed the video.
A beautiful video! The store was fabulous. I love your garden. I live on a farm and have developed many flower beds over the years, just me and my spade. It has taken several years to take shape. My husband is a very busy farmer so doesn’t have time to help with my projects. I have several varieties of iris, peonies, and lilies, as well as some blooming shrubs. Spring is a glorious season. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home and garden! 🌺🌼🌸
I purchased a cute teapot and a couple teacups at the antique store. I placed them on an old silver tray with a pretty little flower arrangement that matches. As I type, I am sitting down to a cup of chamomile tea on this chilly May day. Love the antique shopping.
Thank You for the walk though of the antique co-op. My daughter lives in Bedford,NH. My next visit to her we plan on going....can' wait. Your peonies are gorgeous!
My gosh Linda, at the beginning of your video it looked like you were walking into a painting. The lush landscape is stunning!! It was so sweet when Willow joined you. Lilies of the valley are my favorite flowers. Being a May baby makes them even more so. Just a beautiful tiny flower with lovely character.
I read that lilac leaves should be removed as they drain energy and water from the flowers . Just put flower stems with the leaves stripped off in your vase. Follow the usual instructions for trimming the stem for optimum water absorption. I tried this tip and it works fairly well. As usual, beautiful video content. Thank you! Loved your simple, fresh flower arrangement. Sometimes less is truly more!
My simple pleasure yesterday was taking time to read a magazine. That isn't normal for me. Although recently retired, I'm always on the go. Lilies of the Valley are so pretty, however I would warn anyone planting them that they can be very invasive. A friend gave me some over 30 years ago and they go EVERYWHERE! I've tried to keep up with removing them, but their runners are sometimes a foot below the ground, as I found when I tried digging them up!
Thank you for introducing us to the antique co-op, I went to the on line site and enjoyed a tour of their art gallery. What a pleasant break from a morning of doing laundry!! Now I am headed out to pick some ferns and Lily of the valley for my very own enchanted bouquet. Thanks Linda!
WOW - making plans to visit that NH Antiques Coop - we also have some items we might try to consign...Thanks for posting! P.S. I can see myself bringing some new items home with me!!!
Your new parasol is so pretty! I enjoyed the Antique co-op. I saw an armoire and a highboy that I would love to own! My flowers and herbs are suffering a bit. We went from 40's to high 80's in a week here in my area of PA, so I gave them some TLC today. I need to get some Lily's of the Valley. I absolutely love them. They have such a lovely scent. Enjoy your weekend!
I have several friends who stroll with Japanese paper parasols which are readily available. Very romantic if noy whimsical. Love lily of the valley. My grandmother's garden was filled with them. We were encouraged to leave them in the garden for show. Lilacs are tricky. Cut long diagonals with a sharp knife. Also spice the woody stem up the center a bit tp create more surface area to accept water. Crushing the stems can possibly crush the capillaries which could prevent the flowers' ability to drink. If you shears are not sharp they also pinch the capillaries closed. I was trained to swipe stems withca sharp knife. Put the fresh cut stems into warm water immediately so the ends do not have time scab over sealing the water inside but preventing intake. If the lilacs start to fade try recutting and placing in fresh warm water in a clean vase. Bacteria in the water is a flowers certain demise. More than additives like sugar, aspirin, flower food (which acts against bacteria) and the like clean water is key. Love the fragrance of lilacs.
Amazon has beautiful umbrellas with UV protection. I use mine when I sit on my deck or at the beach. They are inexpensive too. The brand I purchased was BAGAIL. I'm not affiliated with this brand, I just like it. I still use extra sunscreen protection. Thank you for another great video!
I'm so jealous of the antique and consignment stores you have access to, LOL. We either have to make a special two hour drive or else we're at the mercy of eBay.
Hi Linda...lily of the valley are my fav on a daily basis I wear Yardleys Lily of the Valley cologne ,powder, body lotion and hand cream I think l LIKE it!,!! I loved the dainty arrangement Thanks for the antique exploring oh I so wish I could be there ! ...but I have the next best thing thanks to you eh? Much appreciation Susan in London Ontario
I love your parasol idea and even though I love being outside, I too get awful headaches from the sun and sometimes cannot wear a hat. I will have to keep an eye out for one!
Another beautiful & inspired episode! Loved the tour of the antique shop- I’m definitely going to have to make a road trip!! The Lilly of the valley arrangement was so sweet! 🌿
Hello Linda, I'm new to your videos and I'm an 'old' interior designer with thoughts and some things we like in common! I live in Minnesota (lots of swedish influence here). I've had old houses and new, but I'd take a redo any day over new. My husband and I redid 5 old houses then built a new one. Now, my health is unstable and I do not think I could do another. I wanted to tell you about white lilacs. I have some and they don't last as long as some of the others. First, remove all lower leaves, then get mean and 'hit em' with a hammer 3-4 inches from the bottom, add some sugar and change the water every day!!! Hope this works for you, Blessings...Laurene
Linda, I enjoyed your video. I have been collecting apparel in the area of hunting and fishing. As a very young child, I enjoyed the two sports immensely with my Dad and I will enjoy again after I complete my current employment. I look forward to those pleasures in the near future. My nickname is Annie Oakley since I have been very successful in the area of hitting the targer while hunting. I am also very successful in the area of fishing as well. This is the good to me area. It is not for everyone but I love to be in nature on this level as well. The antiques were beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
If Athena in search of me is very far from you, I will gladly watch your videos! I am very sorry that your latest videos do not have subtitles so that I understand everything you say and I limit myself to the image and my little English! I hope we have subtitles in the future and enjoy every word of yours! Always be well!
@@missmyabcmissgm2918 Thank you very much for your good mood to help me! I tried your suggestion but it did not work! I hope our hospitable hostess gives us the opportunity to share with her, her wonderful daily life! I wish you the best!
Hello Linda! I just discovered your channel - so excited. I love the homes out East - I think I must have DNA from out there - Living in the Midwest we have more farmhouse type of historical homes. Looking forward to digging more into your work. I did see, however, in one quick view two beautiful wall coverings - a Hunting Scene and a sweet bumble bee pattern - could you direct me to the source for those? THANKS so much.
Hello Linda Thank you for the video. Your yard looks beautiful. The grass so green and thick. What do you use? The grass in my yard has bear spots. I have tried seeds with some success. Your lawn looks like green carpet. So pretty. Have a good weekend.
Enjoyed your video. I love New England. My sister lives in Thornton NH. Maybe I’ll visit that store someday. Did you know Lilly of the valley is poisonous to dogs. It is my favorite smelling flower next only to the Lilac I planted a lilac bush only to find out it was a miss Kim lilac though beautiful I love the old fashion variety!
I am finding that so many flowers and plants are poisonous. I took one out that Willow used to play with when she was a puppy, now I wish I had it back since she no longer plays with our plants.
I have been looking at Facebook Marketplace. I grabbed a beautiful french bombay chest for 150, but I notice prices are going insane on there. I think i am going to have a look at this consignment store.
Prices seem to be crazy everywhere. I think FB marketplace and some vintage stores are taking advantage of the fact many retail stores are closed now and they have a prime shopping crowd ready to spend.
What a great video.... so much information! I also have a white rhododendron in my yard... I have never seen a white rhododendron before this..... as I’ve stated before, this is a new house for us and so many flowers are popping open. I am over the moon because we have about 30 peony plants in this yard and they are my favorite flowers. The New Hampshire antique Co Op is a fabulous place, isn’t it? Also, your garden looks really beautiful. The little simple pleasure that I do for myself is after my “housewife” duties are done in the morning are usually sit in the afternoon and do some stitching. Thank you for a few minutes of loveliness!
OMG, the Garfield brown transferware in your antique mall tour is what I have been collecting for over 29 years, it is so hard to find....I want to cry, I live in Ohio..😭😭😭
