This was such an unusual & beautiful arrangement that I can't bring myself to hear anyone else's version. Love this sooooooo much! Merry Christmas to everyone & let us all have a better New Year!
Jen - never complain about stopping so much - even though I've seen this video dozens of times, it's your amazing critique that allows me to hear so much of the intricacies of their harmonies that my ears just can't pick up all the "yumminess" the first few time I hear the song.... They put so much thought and preparation into each of their songs it blows my mind and never ceases to amaze me. You my friend bring that out and to boot, you're so funny and cute it makes watching your channel so much fun - no matter how many times you stop... You are by far, my favorite reactor of this group - I've seen them in concert twice and will see them again in March 2023 in Atlanta. I also am highly impressed with your musical videos as well and I concur, they should take you along on one of their tours and you'd fit right in with their craziness...A UK tour with Home Free and Jen G - I would definitely take a flight across the pond to see that!! Here's wishing you a very, Merry Christmas!! RicheC (Atlanta Ga - USA)
OMG Rich. You hit the nail on the head and said it so well. I agree with everything you said. Home Free owes a debt of gratitude to Jenn for her videos. Merry Christmas.
@@suevillarreal9315 I'll see your "Totally agree!" and raise you 2 totallys. Unbelievably good arrangement and performance, and unbelievably good analyses. And then there's Mr. Cunnigham's excellent comment and Mr. Webb's superb acknowlegement of Mr. Cunningham's comment. Never before have I been able to tag along on such a set of comments. Thanks to all, including Jen as well as Home Free. I am truly blessed. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.
Really happy you enjoyed this. I don't have the musical knowledge to be able to explain why it's so fabulous, I just know I love it. And who knew an old song like this could be such a bop?? I guess that's the Adam Rupp effect. Merry Christmas Jen!
It has been a joy watching new people see this particular piece this holiday season! You bring such a great combination of knowledge and enthusiasm to your HF reaction that adds a lot for he viewer. Many of us Home Fries put this near the top of HF holiday songs. An incredible arrangement by Adam. A wonderful holiday season to you and all my fellow Home Fries!
I LOVE this version soooo much! Add to it their version of “Go Tell It On The Mountain” w/Texas Hill, “Cold Hard Cash”, “Hairy Christmas”, “Full Of Cheer”, “Christmas In Dixie”, “Mary Did You Know”, “What Christmas Means To Me”, “Christmas Medley”, “O Holy Night”, & even “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer”, (& pretty much any other Christmas song Home Free does!), & I’m set!!!! ALL of their songs & arrangements are just incredible! I love them all. I can’t wait to see them again in April-front row seat w/a UVIP ticket!!! I probably shouldn’t have spent the money, but I couldn’t help it!!! The last time was so incredible & just tons of fun. Great review, Jennifer! You should hit Austin and/or Tim up for an interview to put on here! They do a lot of stuff to promote other artists, too, so maybe you could join them for a song or two? Keep the faith! So glad you found our boys! Hope you have a Merry Christmas! #HomeFryForLife ❤🎄🙏🏻
Great analysis for a great song and fantastic arrangement (kudos to Adam Rupp). I love your reactions Jen because you not only provide excellent, in-depth, accurate, professional analysis... you're fun to watch too! Thanks for continually bringing acapella music, especially Home Free.
This is my ALL TIME FAVOURITE Home Free song, and all time favourite arrangement of this song. And your analysis has been the best I’ve seen so far!! I always love your balanced commentary between the technical stuff and the just geeking out over how amazing they are! It makes for a very informative AND entertaining video!
Doesn’t get any better than this! I’ve been anxiously waiting for the holiday season to get here, hoping that you would react to this song. Well done. “Snow Globe” and Christmas Ain’t for the Lonely “ are two original Christmas songs you should check out as well. Fabulous reaction Jen!
This is *such* a satisfying composition. Super atmospheric intro, the 4 octaves in 4 seconds round is such a fun flex, Tim's bass work is great (as always), Austin busts out an amazingly accurate quacky Strat-NO-caster funk guitar line (crazy!), & that Stevie Wonder -esque key twist 3/4 in is #ChefsKiss!! So much to keep the ear entertained. Adam deserves some kind of award for creating an arrangement this special from a much less interesting original. :)
My favorite arrangement of any Christmas song, ever. I was lucky enough to see them do this live last night. Just as fabulous in person. One comment about the bass. Chris Rupp says that when he was in the group and they did this live, he would do the bass line when Tim had the melody, but in the studio recording, they doubletracked Tim because he had a fuller low range. In any event, it's amazing and fabulous. Outstanding vocal percussion from Adam, as usual.
im so glad you got to this one, great job. i think this is epic arrangement, not mention great vocies. i hope you have a great Christmas, and get to sing with HF,would love to hear that.
He doesn't do many arrangements because these he does do it are spectacular, and the others in the group dread recording them because they are difficult *because* they are spectacular. The results speak for themselves. This is far and away my favorite Home Free production; the music itself and the setting are next level amazing.
The more I watch you react the more I realize just how much I enjoy the absolute, well, JOY you show with each discovery you make or figure out. Thank you from this musician and educator for warming my heart with your enthusiastic, unfiltered love of music.
12/15/22 concert Austin was sick so when the four of them did the 4 octaves in 4 seconds Tim started at his low notes then Chance, Rob and Tim used his highest falsetto to hit Austin's note! Check out a live RU-vid recording.
I cannot wait for your reactions to Home Free. Your editing of your videos are the best barring none. Thank you for helping us non musicians to understand better.
YES!! You finally reacted to not just my favorite Home Free Christmas song, but my favorite Home Free song, period! "How is this so groovy?" Simple: Adam Rupp arranged it, and it's Home Free!! 😁 Jen, I have never laughed at your reactions as much as I did in this video, and I say that in the best way possible. Just like my first (of about 587) viewing of this video, my mind was blown so many times! There is just SO much going on in this song, all of it incredible! The setting of the video is the ice castle that is made every year for our Winter Carnival here in Minnesota (where our boys got started), and I was very concerned that Tim's dragon notes were going to shatter the thing. 😆 I just got to see our guys in concert three days ago (for the second time), and this song was one of the many highlights of an absolutely amazing evening!! Keep up the great reactions, Jen, especially for our Home Free guys!! If you haven't reacted to "What Christmas Means to Me" yet, I definitely recommend it. The guys are at their goofiest, and Rob absolutely sleighs the lead vocals. (See what I did there?) 😉
This was the first song from HF I came across and been a fan ever since. Was suppose to see them live here in the UK on my birthday sadly it was the start of the pandemic and they had to cancel. Just love them xx
Thanks so much for reacting to this. I don't even like the original song much, but HF made me love it. Adam's arrangement is top-notch. Very complex stuff.
So fun - awesome watching and hearing your response. I just found you today on my news feed today, reacting to Auld Lang Syne. My first thought was have you listened to this video of HF. Loved listening to your analysis/review.
Ah, Jen, I was so happy seeing that you were finally reacting to my favourite Home Free Christmas song, but at the same time worried that it might be too much for you to dissect. I don't think you stopped too much, and you were spot on with your analysis. I remember this song playing on the radio during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and remember my father stocking our garage full of canned foods in 1962. My father would play this on the piano every Christmas after, for as long as he could, as a way of giving Thanks for us getting through a very dark part of the history of our Country. Im really glad you decided to react to this masterpiece of harmonies and layering. Merry Christmas to you and yours. 🎄🎁
I've got to say that I get so tickled at you with your crazy antics and beautiful smile and your constant apologies for doing what you do with all the stopping...but I absolutely love it. I'm just short of 70 years old and I've been a mediocre music nerd most of my life. And though I've listened to this many times over the last few years, YOU always seem to bring out things that I've missed, so...Thank you , young lady. I hope you get your chance to sing with these guys. Please keep doing what you do...your way. You, and Home Free, make my heart sing!
Love, love, love it! It’s so creative and Adam arranged it. They often don’t let him arrange too many songs as they say they’re too complicated. I can’t believe Tim’s notes didn’t collapse the ice castle. Really cool version filmed in a really cool place. The ice castle was in Minnesota in the freezing cold. Just so much fun. One of my favorites. Try Angels We Have Heard on High, Silent Night, What Child is This and Auld Lang Syne for New Years. Great reaction Jen. Have a wonderful Christmas!🥰
Jen, both the the song and your joy and happiness reacting to it made me smile the whole time. It's obvious you have a special place in your heart for Homefree and they're ability to make a song theirs. That's one of the reasons why I keep coming back to your channel. Happy holidays and have a great New Year!
For me one of the best arranged songs, or perhaps the best, of Home Free. So impressive! The so great harmonies, the sound effects, colors, etc. in such a beautiful but cold environment. When I saw and heard this for the first time, I did repeat it a few times. Just amazing.
Love your reactions and I am learning so much - no need to apologize - I like everyone else can always go to Home Free channel to listen without interruption - I enjoy your analysis and energy!!
It's always twice the fun with your analyses. I love especially when you isolate and demonstrate the clashes. That's so very cool. Merry Christmas to you, too
I always love your reactions, full of great information. Always fun. Just finished listening to your album Layers. Can't wait to hear more of your music, it was wonderful!
This is my favourite Christmas song from Home Free even though they have many fantastic ones. I love Adam's arrangement. It's so complex and sounds amazing. Love his breathy intro as well. Loved your analysis. I learn so much as I'm not musically inclined at all. Merry Christmas to you and all the Home Fries 🎄
I just wanted to add sea shanty medley to your home free list. Though it’s not a Christmas song. Also enjoyed watching all of your home free reaction playlist in the last day (long time home fry) and your tim and Austin solo (not on your home free playlist but might fit)
The unexpected cry from Austin depicts the type of music you might hear from the area where Jesus was born. I love the syncopated parts and the kind of chaotic chords you get oftentimes. The ending was so awesome with the beautiful harmony. I enjoyed the looks on your face, and especially when you could hardly catch your breath when the song was so busy. Quite a reaction from you, Jen. Have a blessed Christmas!
I simply love watching your reactions Jen!! Love Home Free's version of this Christmas song..listening to You and Home Free always makes my days better!! Wishing You a safe and blessed Christmas Jen.❤ from Ohio, USA.
This is supposed to be a song where Christian’s are CELEBRATING Jesus’s birth? This song feels more like a true CELEBRATION compared to the Traditional (Fuddy Duddy) version!
Fuddy duddy ? It's was written before everything was turned into rock. The original writer of this song wrote as a Christian Hymn honoring the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It was not meant to be a song that you can get up and dance to.
Hi Jen! Loved your reaction and analysis of this performance. I now hope you react to Home Free's rendition of, O Holy Night, and other Christmas songs/carols they've recorded!
Jen, no one analyzes songs better than you. Love this arrangement by Adam Rupp!! Never was my favorite Christmas song, but this arrangement makes it one of my favorites! Happy Christmas as you Brits say and have a wonderful New Year!
I love how you enjoy yourself so much in this. Makes me enjoy it more too. There is so much going on in this song. I love it. Adam's arrangement is fantastic. Love your attempt to imitate Adam's beat boxing sound. You had me LMAO (as they say). God, I want soooo much to hear you do a song with these guys. It would be incredible. Home Free should do an album where each song features a different RU-vid Reactor. Well... just the ones like you and Peter who can sing. Merry Christmas Jenn and thank you so much for all the pleasure and education you deliver in your videos. You are one of a kind. And a very special kind. Cheers.
Once again, your reaction was fun, fun, and more fun!! 😀👍 For more really "creative" Christmas masterpieces from HF are "Children Go Where I Send Thee" (with Kenny Rogers), "Angels We Have Heard On High", and "Silent Night". So different, with a ton of dissonance and gorgeous, or just toe tapping - fun! Merry Christmas, Jennifer!
LOL i just started to hear this again a week ago and thought oh darn Jen hasnt ever done a reaction to this and she will love all that is going on in this and JINX today you did a reaction Christmas is complete now!!! LOL people don't like the breaks and me to at time but you seem to make them fun and imformative so i don't mind Great reaction!!!!!!
I have to agree with previous comments, Jen. Never apologize about pausing so much. If you pause the Post, you have something to say about the video. That, that is why we subscribed to this channel. Plus, when you pause a lot, you kind of go into an OVERLOAD moment and you LOOK LIKE you are excited and ENJOYING yourself. A Plus, Plus for us. Great Post. I was wondering if you had seen this yet. Thank you for sharing it with us.
You should check out some of Chris Rupp's solo work or 7th Avenue or...the other group he's in, the name of which is just escaping me, right now. He has a wide range (like all of these guys) and can do bass up to tenor.
The arrangement and production of this is extremely phenomenal and I would challenge any other group to try and top it 🥰💕🥰 Have a wonderful Christmas ⛄
Jenn, your excitement in this reaction in infectious! I smiled through the whole thing. Previously, this song had not even been near my list of Christmas faves, but this particular version (and only this version) is now at the very top. Merry Christmas to you and yours! 🙂❤🎄
Such an exceptional arrangement by Home Free's own wizard and incomparable vocal percussionist, Adam Rupp ⛄🪄🎄 And such a nice treat to hear Chris Rupp's smooth baritone getting some focus❣️🎼🥰🎶♥️
A wonderful reaction. I always learn so much and you pick up on things other reactors just dont hear. I understand the boys want another European tour in 2023. They tend to go to London for some sort of acapella festival, maybe you can arrange to meet them there. I would love to see a collaboration. Have a Merry Christmas.
Please please please react to 'Wonder As I Wander - Epic Version' by Simon Khorolskiy. Its an underappreciated Christmas song and he really does make it epic.
rob and bindi? you two are so good... i hope steve is up there with fred... and "whoopsadoodle" when bob gets here, it''le be just a hppy lil accident....
Adam Rupp's original introduction to this song got thoughtlessly deleted to be replaced by the standard tour date boilerplate. I managed to recover the introduction, which I believe gives some great insight to his thoughts on making this arrangement: On the surface, this arrangement of "Do You Hear What I Hear?" sparks the imagination with different musical themes, and brings life to several different scenes or imagery about the birth of Christ. However, a deeper understanding of the song reveals a call for peace in a chaotic violent world under the simple truth preached by Christ: love. Originally written during the Cuban missile crisis, a parallel can be drawn to any time when the world needs a reminder to love not hate. The theme of competing voices is echoed in the execution of the 4 different vocal parts that come to clarity at the 4th verse and unify with the same message in 5 octaves: "Listen to what I say. Pray for peace, people everywhere." - Adam Rupp
Hi Jen, it's me again. I got to thinking of a song I you might enjoy reacting to during this season. It is Mary Did You Know by Voctave feat. Mark Lowry. Mark wrote this song, and I would love to hear you react to it and see what you think.
To hear more of Chris Rupp, you should react to Children Go Where I Send Thee with Kenny Rogers. Home Free sang this with Kenny soon after they won The Sing Off. They all have a lead except for Adam who is doing the beat boxing. Austin is also sharing with some of the beat boxing.. Kenny of course sounds great. He also is able to blend with Home Free effortlessly when others take the lead. It's an African American spiritual which is a Christmas song. It showcases everyone's talent.
This is just as amazing live! I enjoy how you break things down. When you do this I hear things that before, I would not have noticed. I really enjoyed this!
side note you should listen to HF, Oak ridge boys, Jeffrey , Star of Bethlehem.either on your show or for just yourself,i really think you will love it.
Your so cute, wish you were in Atlanta. I need voice lessons, and I could expand your knowledge in tech, pop and country music history, and put a band behind you to do some pop/rock & country recordings.
Really good job on the reaction. I think you can just resign youself to the fact that they will drive you nuts with everything they do. Much patience to you.
One f their get Christmas songs. The other one is Oh Holy Night. Austin is such a baby in that one and his voice OMG. Thanks for reacting to this one Jen.
Jen, you mentioned that you hadn’t heard much of Chris Rupp being featured. Please check out “I’m Moving On”, which was his farewell with the group. His voice is pure butter.
