Home free brings another one home! This one has a twist of country with improvised "instruments" that make this an incredible song to just sit back and appreciate!
The lead singer in this ...Austin Brown just recently released "Bring Him Home" from Let Mes....with no twang...lol. It's beautiful. He has his own channel and has done several covers including "At Last" an Etta James classic.
I think the best one that Austin Brown has done is Unchained Melody. I've never heard it sung better. Nearly brings me to tears each time. The song has special meaning to me. Larry should go listen to it.
I'm a Les Mis fanatic and as much as I love Austin, Alfie Boe is the only Valjean that sings Bring Him Home the way it should be. Sorry Austin...no offense!
This song was my first introduction to Home Free and I've been hooked ever since. I so enjoy your reactions and your love and appreciation for all genres of music!
You should hear them sing How Great Thou Art and End of the Road. A lot of their songs have a comical thing going on. They do have other songs that aren’t as country!!
I found these guys last year. This was the first song I ever heard from them & I was instantly hooked. The talent of these 5 men is insane. Together they are a perfect fit & complement each other so well. Tim Foust is the best bass singer in the business & Adam Rupp their beatboxer extraordinaire can make any sounds & is in a class by himself. They lean towards country but can sing any genre. They are my favorite a cappella group. This song is very old & is done in the bluegrass country style. It was used in the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" starring George Clooney.
Firstly, I hope that you’re feeling well. I’ve listened to this song so many times; there’s so much going on. I do enjoy bluegrass over modern day country. But HF can sing ANYTHING. If you want to hear an extended ‘harmonica’ solo from Adam, check out “Workin’ For a Livin’”, their cover of the Huey Lewis and the News song. The video is also a nod to the movie “Anchorman “. Lastly, the jaw harp sound was done by Chance.
The Nomonica. I had no idea how much I loved country (at least the way home free does it) until about a year ago. I grew up on 80s pop but always loved Kenny Roger's, Dolly Parton, And some more pop country theu the years. I am a huge Freddie Mercury, Queen Fan. I was searching for Freddie videos and stumbled on this video, watched it and realized this was the group I watched win the song off back in 2013. I saw their whole run and knew the minute I saw them they had to win. Life got busy and music wasn't a priority. Then I fell into the rabbit hole and never came out. One concert and a Tim Foust backyard bash later and I can't wait to see them live again. They have a very special magic between their talent, senses of humor and personalities. Now I don't care if it's country, if it's them I know I will love it. Hope you are feeling better. So glad to see you back. Thanks for a great reaction. Sorry for the book.
I just love Chance's jaw harp sound. He does a lot of interesting sounds. When you get a chance, do a reaction to "Can't Stop the Feeling". Lots of layers in it, everyone is doing multiple things, but Chance, and Tim, are doing background sounds along with Adam. And you will almost have to get up and dance.
Three out of the guys are from the south, Texas, Georgia, and Alabama. The other two are from Minnesota..... But they sing everything. Thanks for reacting to them.
You need to watch Home Free "Folsome Prison Blues" and “Workin’ For a Livin’ vidoes Also the song "Ring of Fire' with Home Free featuring Avi Kaplan from Pentatonix
I am glad you listened to this after becoming familiar with Home Free. Too many reactors have started with this and then pigeon hole HF as a strong country group without realizing their diversity. I think of this as if they are acting a scene rather than just singing a song.
it's also the vocal techniques they use here, especially Austin. He is a guy with a real Southern Accent, but he still had to practice & practice to get that Appalachian/Bluegrass sound. This is a VERY old song actually, 1st written in 1913 and finally recorded in 1928. I'd really like to see you concentrate on Home Free's videos from 2021 & the few we've had in 2022 so far...I think you'll enjoy them
Published by Dick Burnett in 1913, but not written by him. It is a very old American Folk Song that had not been put to paper until Burnett chose to do so.
Loved your reaction to one that got me started on my Home Free journey! The guys are so talented that any genre is open season for them. Glad to see you back and better!
Adam Rupp is one of the top 10 best beatboxers in the world. He is amazing. I love every single one of these guys. Tim, who coached Avi Kaplan of Pentatonix and Geoff (Jeff) Castilucci of Voiceplay and taught them how to go lower as a bass singer and how to maintain that full deep sound. Austin whos voice is from the heavens, the main lead in this song. Rob who is the second singer, full of soul. Adam Chance, who we call Chance due to the two Adams, will surprise you with every video he is in. Chris Rupp, Adam Rupps brother, is the founder of Home Free and is no longer in the group. He is in some of the older videos and he is just amazing as well.
I do hope your check out their covers of “helplessly hoping”, “the gambler”, and “Folsom prison blues”. Great reaction! Happy to see you’re feeling better! Happy Valentine’s Day 💖💖💖
Really amazing what Home Free is doing here. All five more than musicians, rather music artists. But what strikes me is that Chance is a bit undervalued here in this song. Like he does the Jaw Harp sound at the beginning and at the end. But also the background noises. It's all about the harmonies, the vibe in the group, the beautiful voices, the inhuman mouth sounds, the bass, the runs, the no Egos, no rivalry, figuring out which voice best suits which song, no special lead singer etc what makes Home Free so special.❤ By the way, I think you just missed Rob's special sound/phrase in between.😉
Home Free is fantastic. Three of the boys are from the south. Tim, the bass, is from Texas. Austin, the lead here, is from Georgia. Chance, in the back with the beatboxer, is from Alabama. The other two boys Rob, with glasses, and Adam, the beatboxer, are from Minnesota. This song is over 100 years old but was made popular in the movie O Brother Where Are Thou. Yes, Home Free is country but sing all genres. I’m not a country fan either but I challenge you to listen to some of their other songs. I Can’t Outrun You (by Trace Adkins) is a bittersweet song that is incredible. Die a Happy Man is beautiful. In the Blood is powerful. Try those songs, I think you’ll be amazed. Good reaction. Chance was doing the mouth harp btw and Adam was doing almost all the rest. Austin the lead here can also do harmonica.
That instrument is call a juice harp...my pappy played one and sang. Twang is so cool and doing it without actual harp is amazing! Love your reaction to this😃💜
I put this more as a bluegrass flavor. So glad to see you feeling better, covid is no joke... Jew harp is the sound Chance is doing. I'm so so so glad you got to this one! HF is just kick-azz and your reactions are priceless! Keep it up & keep'm comin' big guy... 👍👍👍👍👍
For many of us "Fries", this song was our introduction to HF. I loved the song from the movie, but when I heard this....I was hooked. Much of what they do is Country.
The way Home Free ranged this, to me, seems like a squirrel fest with one squirrel after another, and they seem to have painted each one more vibrantly as they went along. I mean harmonica teaser, yodel, harmonica, soul stealing base, and then finishing with the mouth harp reveal.
As always --- A HOME RUN ----- this group always amazes and hits it out of the park everytime you listen to them. So very glad you finally got to this song by them.
Bass man Tim Foust just released an album of old classic Do Wop songs you might want to check out. I think it's called "Pieces of Me". He really gets some high Falsetto for a low bass singer! This was filmed in northern Alabama near where group member "Chance" grew up. If you listen closely, when Austin Brown is singing the words "Northern Railroad", beatboxes Adam Rupp adds the sound of train wheels on tracks. Then at the end "Chance" does his "Throat Singing" to imitate a twangy ,country mouth harp. Loved your review!
I'm totally with you. I do NOT do country. But I love Home Free - even when they go this far backwoods. But they do so many genres. I think they could probably do opera, if they were so inclined. Very talented guys.
This is not country but rather a 'bluegrass' genre. Adam Chance (baritone/ bass) is performing the Mouth organ/didgeridoo sound. Likened to Tibetian throat singing. Adam Rupp-Minnesota (Tenor/beatboxer) Rob-Lundquist-Minnesota (Lead tenor) Tim Foust-Texas (Tenor/baritone/bass) Austin Brown-Georgia (High Tenor) Adam Chance-Alabama (Baritone/bass)
This is one of my favorites and you should check out their House Party one and their Summer in the Country. I love Home Free. Their music makes me happy every day! By the way... I absolutely love how Adam Rupp does the fake harmonica. perfect.
I'm so glad your back and feeling better I hope. I never really liked country much either. But love Home Free no matter what they are singing. They excel at any genre. I can see your love and appreciation for our guys. You've got a lot of catching up to do with this group. You've only scratched the surface. Try Mayday if you haven't. 🦋💜🦋💜🦋🎶b
I think more folk then country, the meaning of the song demands the “southern twang” First recorded around 1919 or 1920 and then called “The Goodbye Song, or The Farewell Song”, it tells of a man bidding farewell to all he knows and loves. One line in the song explains its meaning, “For I am bound to ride that northern railroad, perhaps I’ll die upon this train” - - the song of a slave forsaking all he knows, his home, his friends, his loved ones, to break for freedom. Country, Folk, whatever, a much deeper song then anyone seems to pickup on or mention.
I just love me some Home Free! These guys are beyond greatness. I think the thing I enjoyed the most about your reaction to this Chris was YOUR enjoyment of what you saw and heard! Your analysis, as always, was spot on, but you were clearly loving every little nuance Home Free gave us in this. Glad to see you are back and on the mend!!
I just absolutely love country music. It tells great stories. Home Free is fantastic and not sticking to the country genre. That's just fine. Thanks for reacting to this one.
Glad to see you back! For those of you who aren't country fans, check out their cover of Boys II Men's "End of the Road" or Crosby, Stills & Nash's "Helplessly Hoping" or "Seven Bridges Road" from The Eagles. Oh, and my other favorite "In the Blood" by John Mayer. All excellent work by Home Free.
Check out their cover of “End of the Road” Boyz II Men cover or “Everybody Walking this Land” with an important message at the end. “Meet me in the Middle” is prime quarantine content with amazing video editing, and “Sea Shanty Medley”. Also, check out Austin Browns channel for “Bring Him Home” from Les Miserables..showing Austins Theater training, and Tim Foust has a Doo-Wop album out with some great music all sung by him.
Well, Home Free...to me is a unique country group. They can sing nearly anything. They are the only Country acapella group out there. They can and will be a bit goofy with some songs (so good). Maybe try..Blue Aint Your Color....Hillbilly Bone...Butts Remix... In The Blood...Some Girls Do... up to you. Thanks for a great reaction.
This song was written in 1913 by a gentleman from Kentucky. It is what is called roots music and it morphed into todays Blugrass and Country music. It has been covered by many artist thru the years, here are a few : The Stanley Brothers, 1950 , Bob Dylan 1962? And the Soggy Bottom Boys in 2000 for the movie O BROTHER WHERE ART THOU. I was such a fan of the music a bought the sound track cd. So when I saw a reactor doing this song I had to listen. This is what started me down the road to becoming the avid HOME FRY I am today. Us Home Fries love to watch the reactors face when they see the RUPP HANDMONICA. The beatboxer Adam Rupp talent is simply amazing. Adam Chance was using Mongolian throat singing techniques the mouth, jaw or Jews harp sound you heard at the beginning and end of the song.
Home Free did not start out as country, and two of the current members, Adam Rupp and Rob Lundquist, are from MN, not from the south. All of the guys can sing with a southern accent, or without…
the Producer of "the Sing Off" asked if they would be willing to be the "Country A Capella" band on the show and they would most likely be guaranteed to be on the show...up to that point, they did not want to really be labeled as "country" but have since embraced it of course.
💚🌻so glad you’re feeling and looking so much better!! This is such a fun show by Home Free, they’re just amazing…do yourself a favor and watch Adams “Drum Solo” it’s truly mind blowing!
Loved this reaction! It's fun to watch you enjoy HF. I think they may have the perfect song for you with a message. I will cross my fingers that you will watch Hillbilly Bone :o)
I've never been a country fan....but I love everything Home Free has released...and I know in another video you asked for examples of Tim's range...he released Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Stay and it blew me away even as a fam
Really like this one. Love Home Free. For me it's the bass singers. Have always been drawn to them, Larry from Lawrence Welk(yes I am dating myself) Richard from Oakridge Boys, Avi and of course Tim and Adam. Like the song " It's all about the bass"
I'm shocked 😲 that you hadn't already reacted to this one. It is really great. They recently released One Voice. It is very good. I think you'd love it. It has a wonderful message in it as well...kinda like the one you were warning us about before you started this video. So...it's a "feels" song.
My idea on whether I like country tends to be based on two things. I don't mind the slides if they stay on key, which Home Free is perfect at. Not big on twang, but these guys do it great and purposeful! Also, it might be interesting to know that the main country drawl singer here also performs "Bring Him Home" from Les Mis! Fantastic voices each in their own voice and also blending so well!
I can't begin to count how many people have said that they don't like country music. Until they hear Home Free perform the songs. Or that they didn't like a specific song until Home Free did it.
Although not a big country music fan myself, I like Home Free's country acapella maybe because they always add a spin on it and an upbeat to it. They are really in a class by themselves.
Like your “It works” comment. A group with versatility, keeps them fresh. Good one! Thought, people without access to musical instruments can discover them within themselves.
Love your “Squirrel!” references.🤣 I can totally relate! Love watching your reactions to Home Free. I feel the same as you toward country music - meh. I can listen to it, but it’s not ever going to be a first choice … but I’ll listen to anything Home Free does. I find myself liking Home Free’s version better than the original in many cases. For example, I don’t care for most hymns (except Ave Maria)… but Home Free’s How Great Thou Art is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. You really should give that a listen, as it shows a lot of individual talents while also giving amazing harmonies.
I'm glad you're feeling well enough to do reactions. Thank you for reacting to this. I don't like the twanga-twanga old-fashioned country stuff, but the newer stuff could do cross-over with no problem if the singer doesn't have an accent. Shaun Stockman of Boyz 2 Men called country music the "white man's R&B." Watch whatever you like, but please don't forget Home Free from time to time.
I have never been big into country but I have grown to enjoy it more now then I did 20yrs ago. I would recommend you listen to Blake Shelton’s God’s Country if you haven’t already I know it’s one you would enjoy.
Their instrumental noises they make are incredible, especially the harmonica. I would love to see you react to Johnny Cash's cover of the Nine Inch Nails song hurt, and Five Finger Death Punch's song wrong side of heaven.
Glad to see you’re feeling better. Another great review. Their catalogue is so deep and as you know by now they cover so many genres. Even though you don’t love country I’d strongly recommend their cover of Take Me Home Country Roads - apparently it took them 5 years of crafting the arrangement to the point where they thought they’d done it justice. It’s a great showcase of each of their talents. Another often overlooked poignant song is I Can’t Outrun You, with Chance in the lead, he also directed the hauntingly beautiful video that adds additional complexity to the song. I guarantee you will not be disappointed with either one. From a 🇨🇦 Home Fry.
Hope you are doing well, So good to see you!! Thank you for the Home Free reaction! I admit, I can’t do rap but I will look forward to more HF in the future! 🤗❤️
The jaw harp is a rarely used instrument these days. Adam Chance mimiced that sound quite convincingly. With both Adam Rupp and Chance providing percussion it added a deepness to the ambience of the song. Finally you can always count on Adam Rupp to give a no-monica solo that is astonishing.
I'm not too far behind on this one, so I hope you still get this. I have a tshirt that says "I don't have ducks. They're not in a row. What I have are squirrels, and they're drunk." This pops into my mind sometimes when I'm listening to HF, so when you said you were on a squirrel hunt I about died laughing. I'm glad someone else feels the same way!
